Considering Luffy's voice actress actually was a...well, not middle aged lady, since she was about 50 when these episodes were being made, but you know what I mean.

To me what was so special about this moment is up until this moment Robin was with the Straw Hats because she had nowhere else to go - and even admits as much. And in that time she spent with them she finally found those friends she was promised she would make if she lived - and she came to realize that the Straw Hats would never betray her unlike every other person she has run into for the last 20 years. But then there was the issue of not wanting to hurt them like she's done with everyone in her life as well. But when Luffy declared war against the World Government (declaring that Robin's enemies were the Straw Hats' enemies), she finally let her inner defenses down and allowed herself to finally formally become a Straw Hat - in her heart and mind she's now one of them. It seriously is very similar to Nami's story - only much, much more traumatic (and Nami's was very traumatic).

I don't know if that is better or worse, but the katakana for the minotaur Zoro's name was literally spelling "Zoro Miruku". Mi-ru-ku is how you spell "milk" in japanese writing. So for that one I'm blaming Toei 🤣

Robin had her mom tell her to live then for 20!!! Years everyone wished for her to die, the people who didn't died or were captured, one after the other - FOR 20 YEARS! imo it's understandable for her to want to stop fighting the world, just for her existance, after that long.

This is also probably your first run in with one of the darker sides of the Navy - Absolute Justice. Kuzan mentioned it as the marine who blew up the civilians is a proponent of it. Basically, it's a sect of marines who believes that Justice MUST be Absolute and anything that gets in the way of Justice must be eradicated. It's an aggressively dark take on "the ends justify the means." There is no action too low for these marines if it means upholding Justice in their eyes.

Honestly, this chunk of recap and non-canon stuff is where I gave up on the Anime. I finally started skipping clearly padded recaps while finishing the arc, then went back to Manga only. Reactions like this is the only reason I'm watching the Anime again. Y'all are great ^^

Small detail that Zoro does, once they hear "I want to live!" There are shots of all the Straw Hats and Zoro slightly unsheathes his sword to the clang against its Tsuba (Hand-guard), in regards to Katanas this action is a "Kinchō" and in this term is to hit metal on metal, the Japanese word can at times translate to "Listening Attentively." It's believed to be used as an action done by Samurai to show absolute devotion to something, that being either a threat, a challenge, or to a person, or a lord. In this time, Robin's request. Zoro made an oath at that moment that he will make sure that Robin lives, his life be given or face true shame. It's a very small thing but I think it is a good moment to show the change in Zoro, who was the most un-trusting of Robin at the start. Kincho is also a move that Yoshimitsu does when he palm-strikes his sword. Thought to mention that as well as you're a fan of Tekken.

I remember that the version I read of the manga translated Robins cry as "I wadda live" and it just added to the sheer blubbering of it. I swear, not manga/anime does crying like One PIece. Just the build up, of seeing her life be misery for several episodes and then that. It is truly peak. The burning of the flag and Robins declaration is such a strong moment to me. I feels like the second moment the crew truly solidified. The first being the walk to Arlong Park.
