The little dog that was in the egg is the Author of Hunter X Hunter's "self portrait" (A lot of mangaka have their own little characters they use to represent themselves).

You have no sense of curiosity, do you? Dialogue heavy episodes are there to connect heavy plot points or to fill simple curiosity. If they didn't have all this auction shit, I'd spend the rest of the arc wondering how they got the money for the game, and if they made it all "oh we sold some shit" then the world wouldn't feel as full and flushed out as it does. If the anime was just the action, the action wouldn't feel half as great.

Just came here to say that I'm sorry Youtube had to be complete pieces of shit once again. You and Azu were just making jokes and having fun and that's what a reaction should be

Might not be the greatest of episodes, but I wouldn't say it's all bad. Best part of the episode is the foreshadowing. Feels like such a throwaway scene but it's a great one in hindsight.

I like this episode because, honestly, it's pretty interesting to learn about how scams are run. Plus, this is HxH, relevance can be found EVERYWHERE.

Ugh. Then they go on to shit on this episode several times cause of how last episode went down. This just makes me appreciate the episode even more. Can't always have banger after banger cause then you'll be overstimulated and expecting bigger and better.

This episode is fantastic. It helps us understand a lot about how Gon sees things. He loves all this scamming shit and thinks it is great.
Gon really shows that he isnt a moral paragon of any kind. He is a self-centered kid who is just focused on what is interesting and fun... And on things being fair and good for him.

"Is this filler" - Anime fans when they experience pacing

This episode was in fact, not filler actually. Aside from the two recap episodes with Gon sending letters to Mito, there are no filler episodes in hxh. The manga actually has a bit more explanation and potential scams mentioned during this part, so they actually cut quite a bit out for the anime. I think that's for the best tho. As much as I like the analysis that Zepile has for Gon this episode, it is pretty boring lol

To be fair, I think this episode was really good. Especially when we had an episode like the last one. You can't just go 100% all the time, because then you'd need to do better and better constantly. Just like with powerscaling in shonen, where you need to constantly have stronger and stronger enemies, you would need to have better and better episodes constantly. I think these types of episodes are needed for people to really appreciate the high-action episodes. It's like you can't appreciate the sun without the rain.

He is the only one we haven't seen train Nen. The fact that he only knew about Ten implies that he either had the worst teacher ever or that he had stumbled upon it himself. If he had a trainer who didn't even tell him about the four basic principles, can you even call that training?

The episode is definitely very "the mangaka watched a documentary they liked a lot and dedicated a whole chapter about it" but it's one of my low key favorites in the series. A really wholesome and fun breather episode that's really well integrated into the main plot and sets up some important characterization for our boys.

Only Togashi can put you through a climatic battle to the death between Kurapika and a Uvogin and then teach you about appraisals directly after it and still make it interesting and fun.
It amazes me that even at this point in the story they still think this is a normal Shonen, hopefully by the end of this Arc they will catch on the Subversion of Expections and the De-construction of the Genre.
i will not pretend that this is an amazing episode... but even at it's lower points... HunterxHunter's writing it's still far better than a lot of the actual Formulaic Shonen.
And for the Record... No, this is not Filler.

I enjoyed the episode when I first watched it, because I was bingeing and didn't need to wait for the next one, and the characters are fun. But I *do* usually skip it when watching someone reacting to the series.
But these reactions are fun enough on their own that even otherwise boring episodes are a good time.

The fact that Leorio assumedly learned about Nen on his own is a pretty big win in and of itself, even if he hasn't gotten very far yet.

Oh come on. It's a fun episode. I like it xD
Nothing to do with character development or anything deep. I just like the merchant lore.
