Straw Hat Episode 380+381

I love this anime

Straw Hat Episode 380+381

Comments

It's fine to say all these chapters later we still have no clue what those massive motherfuckers are. Terrifying.

GrimPitbull

most people who rate Thriller Bark poorly are people who experienced it weekly. The pacing is one of the worst in the manga imo and Toei recaps and re-used animations and padding made the pacing even worse. I think the substance of the arc is great and it was first time we got to see how crazy Oda can go with the ideas for the islands they will visit.

Joseph C Gdaniec

This is one of my favourite arcs, most of the hate comes from the pacing and recaps this arc has, from when it first released. It was an episode every week so, when the next came out and half of the episode was just last weeks episode it wasn't fun

Jack Godfrey

Well its not like brook could go back even if he wanted. The log-port can only navigate in one direction.

Sniper sougo 13

One Piece Trauma hits hardest

Ryan Lamarre

381 is not only when Brook gets his Eyecatcher, but Zoro's also changes to show Shusui instead of Yubashiri.

BeastOfMeatAndHair

The most disliked arcs tend to have the most lackluster villains :V

BeastOfMeatAndHair

The reason why no one likes the arc, Alicia. Is because NOTHING HAPPENED.

Cody Berman

Mamama-mama intensifies.

Alopex The Wanderer

Time for the next best set of arcs I can’t wait to see the reactions for them

CQC Greed

Yea this arc is honestly fantastic BUT I'd say it's not one that's set up particularly well for REwatching (apart from the end with brook's backstory, whenever you just wanna cry a bit :V ) It has a lot of important moments, and a few good fight scenes, but very much of the in between stuff drags out and holds scenes for too long Some also just don't like the aesthetics, but like, what can you do, it is what it is (I do have to admit I feel icky about the Absalom stuff with Robin and Nami, it goes further than is comfortable, but... It can be ignored mostly anyway, doesn't really impact the arc)

Shatol Darmelo

The only reason I dislike this arc is because of the Absolom/Sanji stuff (in the manga anyway). For the anime, this is the arc where I feel the quality passe the point of no return for quality and I genuinely can't enjoy watching it in anime form anymore (though I preferred the manga beforehand anyway, it was nice to see it animated).

Billy Green

Also Moira is kind of a meh villain in my opinion is my main gripe of this arc besides the Absolom and Sanji bit otherwise i love everything else

Tama

28:20 I love when he does the excited Yohohoho and the tiniest bit of compression and vocal fry comes through, gives me goosebumps

Cvillain626

I really hope she makes it all the way to 1000+, the payoffs on all the long ass plot threads is so good

Cvillain626

Alicia freaking out about something from "All the way back then" when she's only on episode 380 is so precious XD

Swan Ronson

I don't think it was spoiler, but I will earese anyway.

Just a small reminder, Impel Down where Ace is imprisoned according to that news article is the giant underwater prison you said we were going to go to, to get back Robin in Enies Lobby, we had the explanation already, there being a current behind the gate of justice connecting three locations, Enies Lobby and Impel Down being two of those.

TheGodofCruelty

So sad what happened to Brook's old crewmates. We'll really miss good ol' UFCJ03JTUSA MRRUKAFAT NURUNURAKIYAMAMAMISIU HINOTAROY KIMIFURATNOPAPAO. May he rest in peace.

YuiYui

Good notice on the Captain getting sick as being similar to Jaya and the Shandorians. Oda confirmed that they caught the same illness, which is why the doctor mentions him catching it on a jungle island, since the plague spreads between both plants and animals/humans.

TheRoguelock

at sea for that long, even I'd want to see some panties

Easy Mode - A.I

Im so upset your avatar didnt express your emotion for this, i was waiting for this moment forever damn it! story of my life this week lol

Sprocket

"What is this? Why is the accompaniment the last to go?" This is not just a throw away line, this is Brook saying something that he holds very dear. Music is meant to be played with others, and enjoyed by people. MelonTeee had a brutal video going over how Brook's backstory is even sadder. For this entire 50 years he never once played an instrument after he revived. In her words summarized, "He'd sing to himself when he was at his loneliest but what's the one thing he doesn't do? PLAY MUSIC, because nothing would make him feel sadder." After going through what he went through it would take a group like the Straw Hats to pull him out of that darkness. I think Oda used Brook pretty well in this arc because with allusions to the shadow being part of the soul. He truly got his soul back after this night and once again feels happy enough to again start playing music to be accompanied by friends, dance, food, drink and merriment. "Bink's Sake/Booze/Brew" also has some wild theories as to it being way more connected to the heart of this series and even the One Piece. Not a single bit of that has even been teased or confirmed within lore... but there are some damn convincing aluminum straw hat theories.

Reginald S. Pumpkins

lola mom you could be call big?????

HeavenlyNoomba

No spoilers

King of flames

Let's not spoil characters yea?

Okoga

To be fair, I only stopped liking this arc on watch 2+ This arc is where the little things start adding up for the anime, super long held shots, cutting to each individual when something happens, flashbacks to 30 seconds ago, etc. etc.

Okoga

A cock in the hand is worth two in the bush

Asher Dalbey

I must have used up half a toilet paper roll during this whole backstory part by now....

Josh Newerth

Brook is a true pirate and does not skip formalities when joining. He is not playing :D.

leviathan_13

LETS GO NEXT UP FISHMAN ISLAND!!!

nick

The quartet to trio, duet, solo makes me cry everytime I see it

Nytalis

Lola's mom (spoiler earesed). Also Laboon is older than Aces' card. Why so surprised?

Rat #41

Ode is a master of the slow burn when it comes to dropping information. It truly is a testament to his solid writing ability.

Shrapnel

I do like this arc, it's pretty unique in the show for being sort of a different genre than the rest. For a lot of the arc, it's kind of the same "spooky comedy" genre as Scooby Doo, with silly antics, spooky characters and such. Sure, it's serious at times also, but it definitely feels different from the rest of the show and isn't as action-packed as other arcs have been, but I don't see that as a bad thing.

Fejk Namn

if someone had a luffy vivre card it would probably set on fire every week

lord_haseo

Damn it, I've been watching through this react as a comfort series at work. Bink's Booze will forever make me tear up and smile a bit. It's both sad and hopeful Yo-hoho-ho!

Pockets

The bounty hunters were before Thriller Bark. Now we only have three filler episodes from which I would absolutely recommend episode 384.

F. Carasind

You probably aren't, but are you skipping the bounty hunters? If you feel like you need a break, don't skip it, this is for your own good. Also, I will cry every time I hear bink's sake played. Brooks backstory cuts too deep for me.

Gurth-Quake

so remember how all the way back at the twin cape crocos mentioned he went into the grandline after the rumbar pirates when they didn't return back to get laboon as they promised? he told the strawhats that he heared rumors that the crew had fled the grand line and abandoned laboon. however, this episode puts that into a new light. as we learn this episode, part of the crew, including yorki, their captain, DID leave the grandline, but after yorki fell sick and only to search for a cure for him. so crocos eventually learned about that part of the crew leaving the grandline and figured the entire crew had abandoned laboon, when in truth the only reason they didn't return was because of what happened in the florian triangle.

JHow

A lot... which just makes it even sadder honestly.

Kino

So excited for you to see the next arc

Icy

100's

nick bunston

Thriller bark is sort of the opposite of sky island. While sky island is loved in the manga its seen as pretty meh in the anime. Thriller bark on the other hand is seen as a pretty underwhelming follow up to water 7/ennie lobby in the manga but the anime goes a long way to make the arcs more comedic tone hit harder so it stands out more.

wakalord

Oda did such a great job of making Brook lovable in such a short amount of time

Beelz

wait did Brook say that the bones of his crew wouldnt fit on the Sunny? The Sunny is HUGE. How many people died?

Cole Savoie

So stupidity all around, as to be expected from anime fans

Lewd Angel

They were really like, We got a dead guy so lets give him the saddest backstory possible in this silly pirate story

Cole Savoie

I have been teary eyed experiencing some of the earlier moments, and I cried as I usually do at Robins whole thing in Ennis Lobbey/Water 7. But I am absolutely sobbing yet again at Brooks flashback. As primarily a manga reader, I have never watched the anime version of Thriller Bark fully, only some episodes and moments. But these episodes always breaks me completely. I am amazed by how likeable Oda was able to make Brooks crew, with so, comparatively, little time spent on them. I would also heavily recommend listening to the English version of the song (Bink´s Brew). Brooks dub voice actor does an amazing work of it. Here is a lyrics video (With sound from the episode): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVvdjlgHAag And here is the scene from this episode, but without English lyrics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dprsmD5F4w&t As for the Vivre Card, Ace gave it to Luffy in episode 101. So it happened exactly 280 episodes ago.

Ebofa

This is what cemented Brook as my favorite character. Yes I know everyone on the crew has their tale of woe and hardship, but this one was so damn heavy. It makes me cry every single time, and it what made this arc far worth watching.

YukoValis

And this is the episode that made me cry like a bitch, just seeing them go down as their singing for laboon and brook at the end, just broke me man

Stunnafour20

And Brook's backstory is wrapped up! (for the most part. Speaking as someone caught up with the manga, we STILL don't know what kingdom he's from, nor do we know anything about his early life.)

Blue Berry

God man....everytime I come back to Brook's backstory it always makes me cry man. It gets me everytime.

BewearKing64

I think why this arc is on the lower end for many is because it is in between 2 amazing arcs ^^ But i love this arc.

Jasmin Jakobsen

So the hate for thriller bark is super layered but comes down to 4 major things~ 1.) Sanji and Absolom Cause MAJOR dislike for many this arc 2.)It's a Lore and Comedy Heavy arc and average anime fans sadly mainly care for fights 3.)It's a solo saga that's sandwiched between 2 of the most Famous and Beloved Sagas in the series 4.) (and possibly the dumbest) The Meme of "Nothing Happens this arc" Some eventually began to internalize and now many act like nothing important happens in this arc aside from Brook/Laboon and the Ending

Shykiba

I want my friend to sing Bink's Sake at my funeral

vincent shiflett

And no...im not crying as I sing this...

Now my fellow rats, let us sing a song in respect for the Rumbar Pirates. For what are rats but nature's foremost sailors~
