Especially the background characters. Oda does *some* modernpunk with One Piece, it's true. Especially with civilians. But it's always got that Pirate Fantasy setting *Twist*.

Where this father, instead of giving them the answer that he had, sent these two babies to "find the answer themselves" carrying the journal that got him chased in the first place, to god knows how far from their home. And after finally discovering the answer themselves, which required destroying a giant spa island/ship to find, they make the jewel, and THEN he comes back. Like he sent them the journal the bad guys were after, they were already in danger from that, if you care about them and the village so bad, come home, make the jewel and be with your daughters!
