so the Straw Hats famously only talk about their past if it becomes relevant or if someone asks them. They don't explain to each other because ultimately Luffy doesn't care about his crewmates' pasts so they don't feel the need to tell each other their pasts unless it becomes relevant in the moment. It is actually kind of sweet that Luffy only cares about who they are now, not who they used to be

In fairness to Papugg and Camie, they've only seen the side of Hachi as a person making food and constantly rescuing them, so their view of Hachi is different from Nami, Luffy, and the others. Hachi likely never even told them about what he did before, which would further skew their perception of him as a good person. Plus, they're both kind of airheads, so I'm not surprised they didn't pick up on the crew being apprehensive about rescuing Hachi based on their previous experience with him

As much as I loved the One Piece live action series, I was disappointed that Hachi was left out, not only because I liked him as a character, but also because of how relevant he would be in the sabaody archipelago arc and fishman island arc. Also, get ready when you see Duval’s face, it’s one of the most surprising gags in the series.

What people don't think about but really does matter is how the stopping and reaction is what makes this a transformative piece. If they don't like it they can go watch the shows themselves. Getting to see an honest and pure reaction while she goes on her one piece journey and other anime binges are what I'm here and appreciate.
