I really needed this episode. I conceptually liked Thriller Bark, but after getting extremely frustrated for taking L after L after L - and mostly due to their own stupidity - it was really nice seeing the Straw Hats straight up wreck shit for once.

Edit: The words for "transformation" (変体) and "pervert" (変態) are both pronounced "hentai" in Japanese. In spoken language, you have to use context to know which it is--which is where a lot of Japanese wordplay comes from, since a ton of their words are pronounced the same but written differently. Kinda like that starfish joke from the last episode. Oda was really in a punny mood during this arc I guess...

But that's so long ago/ such a long period of time" cause remember, Sanji worked at Baratie from the time he and Zeff were rescued up until he joined the Straw Hats, meaning almost 10 years.

Then there is the fact that Duvals flashback is totally a callback to Smoker, where we learn he isn´t as scary as he seems. But in this case Duval is actually a total prick. I imagine Oda have been planning it since Alabastar, where Sanji first avoided being seen. It is truly one of the most stunning moments in fiction. In the "Getting suddenly hit in the face with a cartoon mallet" meaning of stunning.
