The Map that Buggy was trying to run away with (in the first flashback when he eats the devil fruit) was a map to Captain John's treasure. Captain John's treasure is the treasure Buggy has been consistently after throughout the series. On Thriller Bark, one of the Zombie Generals (pretty minor) was Captain John, and Luffy got that armlet from Thriller Bark's treasure room.
