I know this was a while ago but I personally really like the moment Koby tries to fight Luffy because It's the first time after Koby becomes a marine where he has to decide what was more important his friendship and admiration for his idol or his dreams and ambitions because if he helped Luffy or simply did nothing at all then at that point he didn't deserve to be a marine. That being said it does suck that it had to be the battle were Ace's life is on the line.
