I'm reminded of a phrase I've come across while on the internet: "When is a monster not a monster? Ah, when you love it." which seems very thematic for this episode and Alica's own arc in knowing Shoji. Came a long way from "Ew, flesh arms are nasty." huh?

Remember in the movie where Chimera called Shoji ugly, and Alica said "See! It's not just me!" Like yeah! That's the problem! You're part of the problem MHA's trying to point out!!

Well IIRC Eri's situation is kind of mostly outside of the framework of the Quirk Singularity theory, as her Quirk is a random mutation that didn't take after either parent's family.
The Quirk Singularity is afaik mainly about Quirks grown stronger over generations through little mutations (like Dabi being born with potential for more firepower than Endeavor) or through mixing with with other Quirks (like Shoto).
In Eri's case a extremely powerful Quirk just appeared out of nowhere through a genetic mutation, so while it fits the general "Quirks get stronger each generation" the process is kind of different.

just saying its rather wrong if you don't admit to what you said originally since that is literally the start of Spinners bad side and the horrific things that happened to Shoji when he was young

do you remember when you were saying ew and calling him out for looking "disgusting"??? im wondering if there may be some hypocrisy here or not? i just want clarification on your wrongdoing because you definitely had some racism towards heteromorphs when you first saw Shoji

The opening is NOT SAFE TO WATCH!!!! it's a banger but is filled to the brim with spoilers!!!! I'd only watch it on like the second to last or last episode.

"Don't let them take advantage of your scars" is such a strong fucking sentence, it applies to so much in the real world too.

(I am just bringing this up cause it think it's funny, not trying to call her out on it.) Wasn't Alicia's first response to seeing Shoji use his quirk just "Ew" but she said "You did not just call him gross." to spinner in this episode?

Yeah, the idea of Quirk Singularity came up early on, then it was revealed the Doc was the one who proposed it, and no one believed him but AfO. No one really links the two directly because it was so long ago he did this, since his quirk gives hm a vastly extended lifespan.
Though, we really don't see any indication he is actually right. Yes quirks get more powerful, but so do the bodies of those who have the quirks. The only cases we've seen of people outright just not being able to control their quirks ended up being from people who were given quirks.
Yes, you also have Eri, but we've seen that she''s been working on learning to control her quirk, so it's not something she can't control, just something she'd never learned how because of how she'd been treated. Now yes, the first time it activated, but that's not a case of her quirk being innately uncontrollable as the theory says will happen, and just a tragic accident.

As a massive fan of Shoji, Spinner, and Koda for the longest time, this episode was a long awaited win for me. Loved it to death

I believe it was stated that the scientific community laughed at the doctor for his Quirk Singularity theory and that is when AFO found and recruited him.

I don't think thats his theory in particular, Quirk Singularity was mentioned way back in season 1 even i think. And regardless if hes a bad guy, he has a logical and evidence supported point, everything seems to be heading towards quirk singularity becoming a reality

I might be talking out of my ass, but I remember watching those early reactions and wanting to explain, though I'm not sure about the details. It's been a hot minute.

Back when you started to react to My Hero, I believe these events had just been in the manga, hence the strong backlash to your reaction to Shoji.

Yeee about the question of Quirks in 3 Generations:
That's kinda what the evil doctor's Quirk Singularity Theory is about.
People will be born with Quirks too powerful for them to handle. Eri being a Prime example.
Still. Just a Theory. From a Bad Guy no less ^^'
So I think we're supposed to take it with a fistful of salt.
