I'm going to confess this right now - the OCD part of me really doesn't like the fact that Oda named the three weapons "Pluton, Uranus, and Poseidon". That screams "WRONG" in my head because he went with one Roman name (Pluton), one Greek name (Poseidon), and one name that bridges both (Uranus). For my OCD-addled brain he should have gone straight Greek or Roman, and I get that Neptune has already been used, so why not call Pluton Hades instead? Anyway, never mind me and my OCD urges.

Cultural context story time! So a lot of stuff in this arc is inspired by a Japanese folktale. Short version. A fisher is out doing his thing when he hauls up a turtle in his net. The turtle begs for the fisher to spare him, and the fisher, being a good person, and also shocked at the talking turtle, agrees and sets turtle free. In a show of gratitude, the turtle brings the fisher down to the undersea Ryugu Palace, home of the dragon god of the sea, and his daughter Otohime. The fisher is treated as an honored guest and wined and dined to his hearts content, but after a few days/weeks of this he started to miss his home and friends and family. Otohime tried to talk him into staying, but eventually, and reluctantly, agreed to send him back. Before he left she gave him a tamate box, warning him that he must keep the treasure close, but never open it. On returning to his village, the fisherman discovers he's in the Japanese version of the "Spend a night partying with the Fae, only to return home and find a century or so had passed." stories. Despairing over everyone he ever knew being dead he opens the tamate box, inside of which had been sealed all the years he'd missed while in the Ryugu Palace, turning him instantly into an old man.

Luffy is a genius - he wish to protect the fishman island but he can't do so from his ship - so he got Big Mom mad at him and only him, keeping the island safe from retribution. Luffy can protect his ship and crew, so Big Mom focusing on them is what he wants.

Man the translators really hate Big Mom for some reason lmao, not only do they keep fucking up and calling her Big Mam, they misspelled her actual name too, Its Charlotte Linlin, not Lingling. Also i love how you can clearly tell they didn't have Big Moms or Kaido's design down yet, i mean you could interpret it as them just wanting to keep their looks ambigous but like, Mom doesn't look exactly as she does later on either, so i think at this point their designs just weren't fleshed out yet

Also they don't exist in the manga, that was purely on the animators. At that time they had no idea how Kaido or Big Mom looks like, so drawing the silhouettes was pretty stupid and missleading.

The "Big Mam" translation bothers me too. As others have said, Oda did write it that way in the past. And the way "Big Mom" is written in Japanese is ビッグ・マム (literally biggu mamu), so if you didn't know any better, "Mam" is technically a valid way of transliterating it. And yet..."mom" feels like such an obvious choice... It's definitely not the only thing that feels odd to me about the subtitles around this time period. Things like "father-sama" feel kind of redundant too, you know? But hey, it was 2012 and we were getting One Piece subbed on the same day it was released in Japan, so we couldn't complain too much. Not when I used to watch anime on poor quality VHS with nigh-unreadable subtitles. 😂

The "Big Mam" thing is most likely just because of translation and/or dialect. I threw Big Mam through Google Translate and got Biggu Mamu. We see the English name and something that sounds similar and assume they just said it wrong.

This is completely false. If there is a model to Chopper's fruit, it has not been stated. Chopper having extra forms is due to his own experimentation with medical science.

I think you read someone else's strange theory because it was stated in the SBS vol.20 that if a human ate Chopper's fruit nothing particular would change. Also, fruit "models" mean nothing, it's just a naming convention. Any fruit "model" is still a fully unique and independent fruit.

Forgot to mention this in a previous episode but if I had a nickel for every time Luffy saves a country and befriends their princess I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice. (He also saved the drum kingdom but I'd argue choppers teacher/mom is more a queen then a princess)

Now that they’re old, I would recommend looking up the Japanese tale of the Tamate box, and why it pertains to them being old. It’s a cool story, imo, and i didn’t realize where Oda got his inspiration for it from Didn’t want to mention it till now, as not to give away their fates too early
