Gravity Falls 2x18

final binge!

Comments

True. But since it's behind a paywall, Disney can't use their bots to find it. And it's not illegal if you don't get caught. Or if it would cost them more than the amount they would recover. This logic is brought to you by.... Corporations.

DrCatspaw

Blah blee bloo bloo blop parasocial commentary lookit me lookit me lookit meeee

Zachary McClune

I mean... copyright law also applies to videos uploaded to patreon that help make money :X

jahschwa

Fun fact when you hear bill talking backwards at the end of the intro he says: "I'm watching you nerds"

Hollowjac

The fact Louis C.K. Played the Hand monster is just another of the many disturbing things in these recent episodes (yes I know this was before the incidents but still)

James Fernandez

Fun fact comment cause I haven't seen it yet: The "People" bubble was the actual voice actors for the characters!

The Force

I agree with you on Ford a LOT, I was raging practically the same stuff when I was watching it. In my time thinking over the years since I saw it (as it released), I got thoughts that make me a little more chill on him nowadays. Fair warning wall of text and don't worry about reading if you don't want my thoughts I just figured I'd put em down and comment to show support! First I think he suffers from what I would consider "Writer Idiocy" as in we're told he's a genius but we don't get to see it much because the writer's didn't showcase it well. Either because they couldn't write it well (which I think is part of that) or didn't put enough time to it, which Ford had like half a season and a lot of that got real mucky. Though the bell's kinda understandable those f-ers are *looooud* and he was *not* expecting it. Still irritating On the empathy/emotional development I think that's just good (if frustrating) writing. This man: 1. Spent his entire adulthood grinding university after his brother, who never got to explain himself or really apologize, sabotaged his future. 2. Moved to the middle of the woods and lived in a cabin as such a recluse the villagers barely knew him, where he was tricked by an otherworldly entity 3. Finally reached out to family for help and that family got him trapped in another dimension forcing him to dimension hop for survival. *Exaaaactly* the kinda guy that would lack that kinda empathy It's also worth remembering that the last half of season 2 was really wonky (and was where Ford popped in) because of a lot of stuff, much like Owl House not getting a proper season 3. Season 2 came out over the course of *years* cause of these issues and while the ramp up and launch of weirdmeggadon was fantastic character development (esp for new characters like Ford) suffered a lot. Finally, I think the gun specifically was an attempt to show off how smart he was, but we couldn't just have him fix it automagically. We need our main cast to hero up! So it was an attempt to show that he really was smart enough to make something which could have destroyed Bill, but it fell flat for a bunch of reasons you already pointed out. So yeah

The Force

Yeesh, pretty harsh on Ford there

DarkPrime25

The mayor had a name?? LMAO

Quinton Macejkovic

i mean, you're right that it's never outright stated that Ford doesn't think much of Mabel, but i think it's implied enough for viewers to make the connection. like how when you draw parallels between both sets of twins, Dipper is more like Ford, while Mabel is more like Stan. That similarity that Stan and Mabel share probably makes Ford like her a little less, even if unconsciously. which is why he trusts Dipper with the secret of the rift and literally no one else. he sees himself in Dipper and his brother in Mabel.

Chris Foley

Smashguy hit the nail on the head. Bill Cipher even brought up the pattern of Dipper sacrificing to appease Mabel in the Sock Opera episode, so it's disappointing to see it happen again in the finale, even if her emotions are understandable.

Munir

I went to a Dragon Ball Z Inspired Convention and bought one of my former co-workers a Nezuko plushie (Demon Slayer). Now, her then but now ex-boyfriend saw the plushie when she got home, he got on her case about her buying another plushie and wasting her money. When she told me what he said, I told him he was a "one lifespan, three-dimensional, five-sense, waste of testosterone, skin puppet." As you can see, I was influenced by Bill.

DBZfangirl318

Soooo.... the "Sweaty One-Armed Monster" voiced by Louis CK was.... a choice. Granted, the allegations came out after the show but like, damn dude.

Dave Quinn

im not sure if its actually disliking the character, she's just picking up on a lot of the characterization most people dont really mention regarding Ford, both the Stan twins have their flaws, but most of the time Ford's get overlooked, and then people act like Stan's outburst in Take Back The Falls is somehow unexpected or out of character his brother has made just as many mistakes as he has and yet Stan ends up with all the blame, both in the story and in the fandom, which is kinda crazy

Ellerian

also his ass was already a quiet nerd, it's no wonder he doesnt know how to act around people

Ellerian

By not trusting her as much as Dipper with some world-ending preventing information, her and Stan

josue vargas

Honestly, I get most of your points. But when has Ford ever looked down on Mabel or not respected her?

xman t

Yeah, I mean Ford and Dipper have a lot in common. It makes sense that they quickly grew together quickly and formed a mutual respect. I can't really think of anyone who views every member of their extended family with the exact same level of trust, so I don't understand why Ford should have to. Also, It's been hashed to death at this point, but it still doesn't sit quite right to me that Dipper growing up and pursuing something he cares about, has been pushed against as something he should give up to stay with Mable. Mable's a kid so I get it, but I don't agree with the whole "family must ALWAYS come first, thing," especially in a coming-of-age context.

Mickey Muscalli

I don't mind how much you pause, that's what they invented the 10 sec forward button for. Just don't be offended that I use it.

AlienBrain

Yeah he should've told Mabel and Stan about the rift, his trust issues are on him for sure. But I don't blame him at all for feeling resentment towards Stan. Or offering Dipper the apprenticeship over Mabel. Even ignoring intelligence, Dipper was the one who was obsessed with the journal's mysteries and wanted a career studying the supernatural.

Munir

Look, sure Bill is a psychopathic monstrosity whose very existence is antithetical to life as we know it.... but he's not all bad! I would like to hear more about his "subject rich, capatistic assholes to indescribable body horror" plans!

Seraphem

Yeah, Stan he very much looks down on, but he seems to appreciate Mabel's creativity.

Seraphem

29:43 - oh fuck the dude said a logical fact.... terrible man, terrible! who stats facts, this is why I only speak in sarcasm. filthy FACT SPEAKERS

Easy Mode - A.I

I assume she was referring to how he seemed to be causing a rift in Dipper and Mabel's sibling relationship by projecting his feelings about his own sibling relationship onto them, which is a large part of the reason why Bill was able to trick her.

tellurium_allure

ford gave mable the mission of getting unicorn and congratulated her for accomplishing it. he doesn't always talk down or think less of them.

Easy Mode - A.I

Ford is kind of stuck in the headset of "the most difficult decisions are the correct decisions, by virtue of them being most difficult," I feel, because he's been so fatalistic since before Stan came back. You're def right to chew him out - he's a little bit up his own ass, as understandable as it is for him to be so.

Bologna Amputation

“Theyre your family! Grow up” To be fair he just met them

Cole Savoie

That shouldn’t apply to sexual harassment 😭 please be fr

Dale Wright

To be fair, Ford has been trapped in another dimension presumably on his own for decades. His people skills are probably pretty rusty.

Beetlefan

Wow, Alicia really doesn't like Ford. I can't tell if she's defensive over Stan, or uncomfortable by Omni-Man's voice. Ford fucks up like everyone else, but has also helped too. He fooled the government agents into leaving, used the unicorn hair ritual to protect the shack, and every time the journals have saved them is because of him. Also I don't think he was ever rude to Mabel, just Stan because of their history. He didn't even trust Dipper with his secrets until they connected and Dipper 'proved' himself by saving him. Ford's mantra is 'trust no one' which ended up being his fatal flaw.

Munir

You don't need to like or agree with the life choices of a PoS to enjoy their work. I always seperate the person from the work they do, I'm not just gonna magically stop liking some music if it ever comes out the musicians were terrible human beings for example.

Miguel Soares

You definitely criticized Mabel pretty hard last episode. Which I think is totally fair. People act like you can't love a character and criticize them at the same time. Ofc some people take it too seriously, she is just a cartoon child, but that doesn't mean we should defend every mistake or poor decision she makes.

Munir

they need to keep the philosophy teacher cycle going. teacher teaches student-student graduates-student becomes new teacher and so on.

BFisher

You are way to hard on Ford and he doesn't talk down to Mabel

Icy

you know what alicia i never thought of that your right ford is kinda also a fuckup

Klaytor

So Time Baby and the squad technically didn’t die. The lore explained Time Baby took 1000 years to rearrange his molecules, but he ended up cranky after doing so (not “confirmed” in the same way, but people have argued that’s why the world ends in 3012 and why Time Baby takes over earth later). It was also retconned all the other men evaporated where just holograms so it can get past the Disney censors, but I like to think they all just perished 😈

Robert

My point wasn't that Mabel did dumb things that kick started the plot. It's the writers started exaggerating her flaws in order to push plots. Like, they make her do things she would never do in any other episode so the plot could get going. It's not a problem with Mabel herself, it's the way the writers used her in season 2. She got used for that kinda stuff way more than Dipper or anyone else. It's really unfortunate because I do like Mabel but I understand why fans were frustrated.

Smashguy

I’m subscribed and W for Gideon and Bodacious T.

Noah Weathers

33:55 funny enough, I'm watching this while eating gummy worms

V_VMat

The head with an arm was originally voiced by Louis C.K before everything about him came out. As much of an unforgivable PoS as he is, I still like the original better. The way he delivered it like it was a mundane request is just really funny to me

Sam Brown

... Alicia, do you ever interact with STEM people that don't take classes in the Humanities...? They're all like that.

Marion Ette

re: bodyshaming stuff around 29:00 That guy is an asshole. But when you're bodyshaming a characteristic, you're also doing a bunch of collateral damage with every other person who shares that characteristic. So justification, "I can bodyshame him because of his actions", doesn't really work. Because you're also harming people who didn't do those actions as a result. And to be fair, you did mostly went into his actions, not his appearance. So this is mostly a response to that couple of comments. Which could've been a joke that I didn't catch. And if that's the case, I'm sorry. But in my defense, a lot of people do genuinely think that way and use that excuse to justify their bigotry.

Arachezy

Was thinking Book smart to Stan’s Street smart, but that actually works better.

Jason Veevaert

Hole swapping pester my mind even now.

Felix Rojas V.

Yeah but Dipper was the same Season 1 and Season 2 he begins it by almost starting a zombie uprising. I think everyone had a hand in what happened. Even Stan said "At least you have your brother." Right before she finds out she doesn't. (Not saying any of this is Stan's fault, just those words made things so much worse without him realizing.)

Alicia Barkley

Ford is the epitome of High Int, Low Wis. He is book smart and does well in school and tech, but anything out of that and he is a bit out of his depth

Jordan

That last bit 👌

Az256

I think the annoying part was how sarcastic some of the comments “defending” Mabel from you being mildly disappointed by her making a bad decision.

Ranginald Vagel

or the arrogance of people who think they're smart.

N00B

You know what fair enough, when you put it like that it makes a lot more sense to me (for me I was confused because it seemed like you did a 180 at the tail end but I get what you were saying now.) sorry!

Dark Persona

That weird hand monster was a good joke character.

Gildarts1#fan

12:19 Alicia you are severely underestimating the arrogance of smart people.

Trevor Appel

I feel like a lot of the backlash was due to a lot of the "Mabel does something impulsive that unintentionally makes things worse" episodes were put in season 2. I notice a lot of react streamers tend to turn on her before the finale during season 2 so it's less that one moment and more that moment on top of everything else. Mabel was unfortunately used a lot to move plots forward and it damaged the perception of the character. If some prior episodes were tinkered with, the backlash wouldn't have been as bad.

Smashguy

I watched the full episode. But you said "I don't think I'd forgive my sibling for handing over the fate of humanity." And it triggered something in me. You see there was a point when a majority of the fandom hated Mable for that one moment. So don't be too upset we're just tired of that flawed opinion.

Alicia Barkley

Releasing it all at once, you really are treating us good.
