The Legend of Vox Machina 3x4

woo more vox!

Comments

SW fans are a weird bunch. They hate on everything since the original trilogy, yet they keep coming back every time.

Anzac-A1

God, Brennan's monologue about arrogance to him was absolutely incredible. Almost literal god-tier acting.

Geth Who

Yeah it was an EXTREMELY popular 4 pt mini campaign so I'm not surprised people freaked at the new that Zerxus was making an appearance.

Dragon0921

As a casual fan of both Lord Of The Rings and Star Wars, you're probably in the right for not reading comments for Star Wars, at least until after the fact. Nobody hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans at this point. Though I have come to find at this point that LOTR fans are pretty chill comparatively, so I don't think that should really be a problem. Also wait, I thought Alicia, like, really really didn't like Marvel, like bordering on being a hater? Watching all of them in order is kinda crazy, what's the stopping point, Endgame? Is the plan to continue until caught up? That's A LOT, speaking as a Marvel man.

Ellerian

very cool, now i know why everyone was so hyped hearing his name a week ago

Ellerian

Zerxus is definitely twisting the truth here. He wasn't a victim of the gods, but a victim of his own hubris. He thought he knew better than the god of lies and thought he could fix him, only to be used by him in bringing about the calamity. He redeemed himself by sacrificing his soul in the end, though.

The "funny" thing about Keylith eating that bug is that it was most likely a lemure, a soul about to turn into a demon. She probably just have ate a person. Devils are such great antagonists. They can't lie, they can't cheat and they love deals and games. And a lot of them come off as very fair and civilised, so you let down your guard and don't look too close at their wording or the small print. Him mentioning "what flows through her veins" makes me wonder if there is someone significant in Pikes family tree. Maybe someone divine.

Spacefrog

I completely missed that!

Dragon0921

This. I hope we get the Calamity movie. Also, Amazon has the right of 1st refusal for any of their animated projects. (I don't know if live action was included in that right of 1st Ref or not)

JaySpotTx

The Calamity mini-series is SOOOO good. I'm beyond happy they kept the same EXU stained glass art style. Also, I love that the 3 wizards in the stained glass were the DMs: Matt, Breenan, and Aabria.

JaySpotTx

If I had a nickel for every time someone said the card game was Yugioh, I’d have 4 nickels!

Fobbles

Welcome to hell!! Apparently if you act like you’ve heard it’s like, you’ll be fine!

Fobbles

Ah yes, everyone's favorite Marvel movie "Ultraman Rising" (commenting on their pre-show banter if anyone is confused). She wasn't kidding about going into the marvel movies blind for some of her future content.

Port34

So, I can't really blame Pike for making the deal, given the circumstances. But I will call her out for not actually reading the contract before signing it!

Seraphem

Thought I remember hearing that when amazon signed them, there was talks of a movie as well as the series. Theory is that if they were to do a movie, Calamity would make the most sense for that and having them tie in the lore into the series kind of supports that. But sadly that's just a theory and nothing has been confirmed yet :(.

Port34

I’ve been saying the same thing, the EXU Calamity really does deserve a movie adaptation

Broccoli Ben

As others have mentioned in the comments they changed this whole part around a lot and basically merged two plotlines but two things I'd like to mention on top of that: You were right on the money with your comment that Percy should be the one to make the deal with the devil since his soul is already fucked - that was the exact reason Percy gave in the campaing as for why he should be the one to sign the contract and that's how it ended up being in the campaign. The second part is that they actually also made a deal with a *different* Devil in the campaign, but they changed it to Xerxes since he has massive lore due to him actually having been a player character in "Exandria Unlimited: Calamity" - which was the mini-campaign they did where Brennan Lee Mulligan DMed; it's only four episodes totalling about 18 hours and is among some of the absolute best stuff Critical Role has ever put out!

BeckettBaladas

Ngl, that whole gambling scene was amazing!

WillGlacier

Fun fact: The demon Zerxus never existed in the original Vox Machina campaign. He was a player character created by Luis Carazo in a mini campaign 2 years ago called "Exandria Unlimited : Calamity", which showed the events that lead to said calamity. Adding him to the Vox Machina story was such a cool choice to further tie the calamity to it, as well as show how a once morally strong knight became corrupted in his 1000 years in hell.

Dragon0921

Omg I love Zerxus so much. Wish we could get a little more Loquatious screen time too.

Daniel Wong

I hope so much that we get a Calamity movie, this episode was a great taste, but the whole story is some amazing content. Luis killed it with the voicing, everytime I rewatch it I notice how his voice quakes the room with the word "lie" more than I did the first time

Mike

Damn, my bad lol. It has been almost 5ish years since I’ve seen the campaign so merging the fire plane and hell isn’t that far fetched.

Broccoli Ben

The Plate of the Dawnmartyr was found in the City of Brass on the fire plane, not hell. They DID fight a Pit Fiend, though.

TurtleKungFu

Fun Fact: The entire party went to hell when they did in the campaign, and they only got the armor because they just happened to need to go to hell to stop a tiger demon (Racshasa I think) from trying to kill Vax repeatedly. They adjusted the story to make it flow with the overall plot of the dragons more smoothly. They did have to gamble for the vestige, but it was against a fire giant whom Scanland lost to lol
