It's fairly obvious in this movie that Vader is a broken man and it's really hammered in during the prequels and cartoon how he got to this point. A broken man clinging on to his last friend/ mentor long after their true face was revealed. I view the first six as Anakin/ Vader's story.

Not sure about where the materials for the second+ Death Star(s) came from, but the first Death Star was provided mostly by eating a large portion of a nearby planet. The planet's biosphere was harvested, it's oceans boiled away, and it's surface strip mined by droids and slave labor (same thing) to provide the raw material for building the Emperor's vanity project. Once the Death Star was completed, it's primary weapon was then tested by destroying the planet it had been constructed above. That planet, appropriately, was named Despayre.

Completely agree about liking this one and the original the best. Empire Strikes Back is amazing in a lot of ways, particularly when it comes to actually doing story/character development, but I also feel like it had more annoying moments/missteps. Honestly, I think The Return of the Jedi might be the least well done in terms of depth/development, but it is just. SO. Satisfying. Its just the most fun to watch, and its a bit heavier on the big action scenes (and they're also done the best so far). So I might not call it the "best" film of the trilogy, but imo its the most fun movie.

That ending is completely different than the ending that we all saw in the theaters when this movie first came out when they redid this sequence it was after episode three came out and so they swapped out the actor who played Darth Vader with the one that played Anakin Skywalker, which isn’t that bad. I like that guy I like his character. He did really good. The only weird thing about it is that they took out the Ewok song which I really liked and they changed a couple things that are kind of irks him. If you ever get a chance to see the original version, it’d be interesting to hear what you think of the changes that they made if you think that improved the movie or if it Hampered the movie for me, it’s kind of a tossup because I grew up on the original version

That's why he wanted Luke to kill him with hate and anger on ep6, so he can get a new younger body, and as part of the technique, he gets the power of the new body, so every time he do it he get stronger, which is why he has 'unlimmited power' (as he says) based on all the hate and anger of the past selves he has been, and who knows for how long he has been doing it, he could be an anti-avatar of the siths, for all we know, being that since the very start of the sith history he was there... changing bodys, creating hate on jedis to get a new body and grow stronger...

Someone else has probably mentioned this but I don't want to read all the comments. At the end with all those different locations celebrating, the last two that you didn't recognize were locations from the prequel movies that were added in with the remastering of these movies. There were many changes in fact to help with the continuity. Originally Anakin's force ghost was the the 50 year old Vader in Jedi robes as opposed to the young Anakin as he was just before he fell to the dark side and so on.

Fun fact: There's a Star Wars tabletop game called Star Wars Legion which is very similar to Warhammer 40k, battling armies of miniature soldiers and tanks, except it's Star Wars, so you can have the mechs and characters, like having Darth Vader as your commander tearing through the enemies. The guy at the beginning who was told to make the death star operational faster is actually the one who had the idea of making the station functional while it still looked like that. The emperor liked his idea and made plan to bait the rebels by leaking info about the new death star and it not being operational yet. This is how the rebels heard about it. The empire had actually been good at not leaking info about the new death star before this fake info leak plan. And the empire fake defended it just enough for most of the rebel spies to die while getting the info, to make it seem true(hence the "many Bothan spies died to get this info" line by the woman leading the rebel alliance).

So, the Luke/Leia thing. That was, from what I remember, a First Movie Thing where there wasn't REALLY a plan to go further, so if it flopped, than the story of Star Wars would've ended right there, and fans of the would've been cult classic could argue who Leia would've gotten with. It was partway into Episode 5 that she became his sister and had her romance immediately spring up with Han. Again, I think that's approximately what happened. Also, if you really want a good deep dive on A New Hope, take a look sometime at MovieBob's Really That Good video on it. Just wait till you're done with the Trilogy of Trilogies

So a little context for the whole original trilogy.... These first 3 movies and the conflict between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire lasts several years... Episode 4: A New Hope takes place in the year 0 BBY (BBY and ABY is the official time measurement of the franchise and it means "Before/After the Battle of Yavin" which is the final space battle you saw at the end of A New Hope and which culminates in the destruction of the first Death Star). Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back takes place in the year 3 ABY (meaning it's 3 years after the events of A New Hope). Fun fact about the Battle of Endor; Ewoks are exclusively carnivorous and would eat fallen stormtroopers during and after the battle. Many imperial survivors of the battle later suffered ptsd from seeing their comrades ambushed, brutally massacred, and eaten by a bunch of sentient teddy bears. Really puts into perspective all of those helmets they were collecting.

Such an awesome trilogy. It’s amazing how well it holds up even after all these years. I still don’t like Anakin’s Force Ghost being changed to match the prequel’s actor, but that’s a minor issue. If you’d like more Ewoks, there are two Ewok movies (Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor). There was also an Ewok cartoon series that I believe is also on Disney+.

It wasn't so much they thought Leia being the sister was a good idea, as the only real option they had. The stress of having to basically shadow direct the movie because the actual director sucked, and the way his marriage was falling apart made Lucas realize he would be too burned out to do the follow up trilogy plan focused on Luke's sister. The original plan was to introduce her in this movie, and then have her be a main focus on the next trilogy. But without that, it made no sense to bring in a new character this important and do nothing with her, but they had already set up the sibling thing and had to pay it off, and of the established characters, Leia was the only viable option.

I think the animated miniseries Clone Wars is a better buffer between The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith than the CGI TV show. It’s not as long or as thematically complex but it does a really good job presenting the war that’s been happening between the two movies and introduces all the important characters that will be in the next movie. Plus Gennedy Tartakovsky never misses with his fight scenes.

Ok so.....the leia thing...being his sister......hooboy. So when this movie was written, the plan was there would be more after it, and the plot of those would be Luke searching the galaxy for his sister. However the more they went into scripting this one, they figured that it'd be better that Leia was his sister. Not saying that excuses it but that's the reason why she smooched him in the last movie. Now that that's over, this is my favorite Star Wars movie, and I think the whole reason is how Luke wins. All throughout the movies both Yoda and Obi-Wan keep telling him that he needs to destroy vader, that he can't be saved. But luke doesn't believe that, he keeps reaching out to Anakin, not vader, throughout this movie, believing in the good in his father that's still there. And even when he could strike him down, end vader? He doesn't. And Vader doesn't save Luke because he wants to betray the emperor, he doesn't do it for power, he does it because his son is asking his father to help him. I just love this movie, and I hope you do too!
