Straw Hat Fan Letter

OMG THIS IS PEAK

Comments

Part of me strongly feels, deep down, that if everyone watched One Piece that maybe we'd have fewer conflicts in the world. It's been a part of my life for over 10 years now and to all the fans who read this I appreciate each of you for taking the journey with me in your own way.

Xanis

i hope the retroactivly have the older brother working under coby in futrue episodes

Austin Jenkins

She said "Hi nami" before the girl was even on screen, stop the cap

Gurth-Quake

truly it is amazing also idk if u realised but the smooch on the younger brothers cheek when he says he got "held up for a bit" is probably from one of the queers of new kama land

Lucy

No the scene where older brother says about ace dying in front of luffy. GF knows ace is luffy brother since she asked about a figure I have of him.

PumpDaddyD

I get it but wouldn't that be denying the crux of that whole scene and how Older Brother relates to Luffy?

ChaosSepher

One can honestly be said to have been forced to grow up very quickly.

Jimmy H Lam

Been trying to get my GF to watch OPi think if I make her watch this she'll feel the emotion aspect of it. I'll cover her eyes when the older brother says about luffy and his bro. That's probably only thing that relates to the main story.

PumpDaddyD

She’s 15?! She and Rebecca are 1 year apart in age?! Jotaro moment

None

The one I'm thinking of may have happened already but I just don't remember...but I can't wait to see her reactions to some of the guest animator/director episodes, there's some pretty off-the-wall art design that's a complete 180 from the typical OP episode

Cvillain626

While current One Piece isn't ALL like this, a lot of the really pivotal episodes and scenes come close. However, what REALLY sets this special apart is it being directed by Megumi Ishitani. She is, hands down, one of THE greatest directors in anime right now (the only director I can think of off the cuff that's currently on her level is Keiichiro Saito, who directed Bochi the Rock and Frieren). But yeah, Ishitani's work looks like it should be a feature length film premiering in movie thearers ... and yet she's pouring her heart and soul into One Piece, and we're all so thankful for it.

Sturstryk

This is such an amazing special. I love it so much.

Gildarts1#fan

Megumi Ishitani directed this special, along with a handful of pivotal One Piece episodes starting a few arcs from now. Literally every episode she's helmed is in contention for top 10 in the whole series. I can say with no exaggeration that she's one of the most brilliant talents in anime right now. And god I'm happy she's involved with One Piece.

Mickey Muscalli

I love the fan letter episode so much and that chopper fan boi deserved so much more screen time

Artemis

It's the fourth time I've watched it, and still make me cry

Edurlix

If you click that tag under the video that says straw hat, it will give you all the one piece episodes without them being covered and cut. If you want to watch the youtube versions, just watch them on yt

Maxxman

I got patreon because I had to see you reaction to this episode!

LeafyNinji

Are your youtube reactions anywhere on Patreon?

Karl Wikman

I just realized it ended with the younger brother being clumsy for a change instead of the older one. Cute resolution!

PrivateXimmy

still younger than brook

KuroOberon

still can't believe reyleigh is 78 LMAO

Joyo Boy

This was SUCH an awesome special. Not JUST because the Animation and art was absolutely Top Notch. Or the amazing writing and story for it. Its so good also because it takes us into the lives of some of one piece little guys. Showing us how the world works. How a lot of people view Pirates. Showing us the Brutality and horror of Marine Ford from the perspective of the Marine "Cannon Fodder". It hits home that The Marines are not bad guys. They are people. With good and bad people. And the Puzzle pieces. Those were a BEUITFUL touch. Each of the fans in the story had a Piece. And it took all those Pieces coming together. After getting lost or trampled or destroyed. But they still came together and it was what allowed the straw Hats to get away. Its amazing world building. Yeah. Its one of my Absolute Fav episodes of one piece and one of the Best anime Episodes I have seen in years. Could have been shown in theaters.

Nunya Biz

I always loved One Piece but after this aired it's def in my top three

WarStorm

I'm excited for you to be so more One Piece

Icy

I am so glad you watched this! Such an amazing love letter to the characters and story that mean so much to all of us!

Logan Baxter

This was truly a love letter to the world of One Piece, directed by a fan, for the fans. There's too much in this I love, like the "fans" of the characters resembling their faves - more so Nami, Brook, and Luffy's fans, Luffy's even has a scar like he does.

TheRoguelock

Megumi Ishitani, remember that name, burn it into your mind!

Damian DeBord

This was the best one piece fan letter. I love how it showed others and how some people admire the strawhats. Just sad that little girl didn’t give her letter to nami

Robert Quiroga

Because at this point in the series, it wasn’t Usopp on the bounty. It was “sniper king”. Bounties didn’t get updated from Enis Lobby until like *way* later! :D

PrivateXimmy

Personally I think the most recent arc has my favorite artstyle, followed by Wano, and then pre-HD

PrivateXimmy

Glad I watched it alongside Alicia for the first time. Also so cool that she gets a sneak peak of the peak visuals that are to come, and sad at the same time that we still have to slog through a good bit of the "dark times" anime wise. So hyped to get to the crazy stuff ahead. I love One Piece man

Lucas_Oreki

This is canon in our hearts !

WillGlacier

In One Piece if you hear its a Megumi Ishitani involved episode, its gonna be literal Top 5 every episode she directs is pure love of the series.

Xanbry

And also the last 2 endings which are also goated

Rick Baron

I am crying and I am smiling, and if that doesn´t sum up One Piece, then I don´t know what does.

Ebofa

She also directed opening 25 "my peak" and opening 26 "us" which are objectively the best openings in the series

Rick Baron

There a problem with this episode... the ending always gets real watery and blurry for some reason! How does evey episide Megumi Ishitani works on end up even better then the last!?

Seraphem

We need a spin off series just about the little people that get caught up in the Straw Hat battles like this. The best thing about this episode was seeing the likes of marines being fans of Luffy etc.

Joshua Wadcock

Yes yes yes I been waiting for YOUR REACTION dude!

Jimmy Recinos

All the stories going on in this were a bunch of short stories oda wrote around the time of Dresrosa and they were just redone to work together and happen in Sabodody with some slight changes for this special

Icy

This episode was directed by Megumi Ishitani(my goat frfr) she has directed some of the most legendary episodes in One piece in the future arcs. You'll quickly tell which shes made by the cinematography and the pastels used in those episodes. Her ability to tell a story is up there with a fe worher Legendary directors.

Spicy Noodles

One piece is the only show I've watched that just keeps getting better and better.

Lord morokei

Tfw you don't want it to end 😭😭😭💯🔥

SomeoneElse

Tears of joy streaking down our faces...

Kaz

Luffy's efforts to save Ace during Marineford indirectly inspiring and saving this the two marine brothers is just absolute cinema. That shit was powerful

SomeoneElse

Nah, I got brothers that I care about a lot. Anything that has to deal with brotherly love I break down hard. When I saw the brother stories again, this is the 3rd time rewatching this in the perspective of someone else. I am currently waiting for my bus to go to school and holding back tears in the middle of public 💀

the pillow

The one piece effect

Froze

This fan letter episode was such a love letter to the fans of One Piece and shows how our actions can have their own inherited will even if we don't realize it. The strawhats were saved by the people they unknowingly affected around the world. I also just love how the nami fangirl is a tinfoil hat fan with her correctly guessing the day the Strawhats would return with a completely incorrect method about sea cucumbers lol. But the brothers' story was the one that really hit me first. While Luffy may not have been able to save Ace, he did manage to inspire someone to save their brother. The thought of being able to affect the world some day if you just keep pushing little by little is really heartwarming! Everyone in this episode is absolutely precious; except for that blonde bitch muscle head fuck him.

Smiling_Jack

This was directed by Megumi Ishitani and she knows her craft. She only directed a few episodes of One Piece in the past, but they all stand out. If you look at her picture, the kid in this "Fan Letter" might as well be her self-insert XD. It's good to see some creativity in this anime (which there is obviously, but only for special moments), which often is a bit plain probably to drag the pacing or save budget. I hope that the remake will take note and allow more creativity like this (I don't mean making stuff up, I mean creativity in adapting the canon parts). However, while I like this art style, I still prefer the "classic one" as a base for the series as a whole. This is fine for special episodes or particular moments.

leviathan_13

You're getting a little taste of what modern One Piece looks like.

Miguel Soares

"Sometimes I can still hear his voice..."

Squirrel

“Get my Gun! Ah Spoken like a true American

Sonic21blast

Edit. Counter on 69....! NICE!

Chamoun101

Did I see an Angel Beats donation goal? Yeeesss! And also her poor heart, when the ending of "that" episode is playing!

Chamoun101

Everything everyone loves about one piece in 1 episode, shit is beautiful

Ougi

"Did he die?" is so funny for the flashback

Josh

This was such an incredible love letter to One Piece, and it was such an inspired choice to ground this special by having this world seen through the perspective of regular people. The anime will now be on hiatus until April, but that just means that Alicia’s chances to catch up has improved exponentially.

Sam Marsh

The universe knew i'd be too op so it nerfed me with depression. It sucks bestie. 😔

Kino

This was to celebrate the anime’s 25th anniversary. I believe next week is the start of the remaster of Fishman Island that will redo that entire arc with new animation and much better pacing. 21 episodes down from the original 51. It will air each week until April when the Anime returns from Hiatus.

Corey Dillon

This show you how vast this world is. I'm 30 and if side stories can be of this quality. Ill gladly be a one piece fan at the age of 80 and still watch stuff cause there is just so much here.... Ill gladly watch a whole ass series on this girl going on her own adventure in this world. and I like how the straw hats feels like legends here... PS just something I missed Cause I'm a dummy, The reason the child did not recognized Usopp is because his wanted poster is Sogaking... cause I was questioning it. why did she not react to seeing Usopp. he is different but being a super fan she should recognize him. but no make sense.

Christo Badenhorst

Ishitani is a god tier director. Can't wait for you to get to the modern anime and see some of her masterpieces!

Lev Vaesinis

yes yes yes im so excited to watch this again

Nanogerm

After seeing the whole thing, looks like she'll love the transition to the new animations style.

Azel !!

They also used this animation style for some key fight scenes in the current arc. You can tell when they do it because everything suddenly becomes super artsy.

unknown organism

your reaction to this is actually my first time watching it. originally i wanted to react to it myself but decided to just see it with you, too impatient for setting up XD also funny how that girl's glasses played a role too as i just got my first prescription glasses just yesterday !!

Yagi di Hoshi

Yeah they do, which really really sucks cause those wano openings are fantastic.

Speed1247

The director of this episode and many other future one piece episodes is Megumi Ishitani. Cant wait til you can see some more of their work in later episodes

Emperor Moist

Man, I cried so hard at the brothers when the music started playing, and again when the little girl got to see Nami. This got me good. Love this episode. Also, if you didn't notice, cause I didn't first time watching this either, but the brothers are stuck under Oar's severed leg.

ThatGuyintheCorner

LESS GOOO I was hoping you’d watch this

Tekuziii

A little teaser for what to expect in the current latest episodes

Azel !!

I am so happy they're redoing fishman island in the newer style. It gives me hope that Dressrosa will be redone as well. I love Dressrosa but Toei was really cutting corners. They mismanaged it for so long it's crazy. There's also the remake which looks like it could be incredible given the little bits we've seen. It definitely needs it as the pacing of the anime is super wonky and inconsistent. It's also just overall going to be more faithful to the manga which is nice.

Kino

This style is not what they do regulary in current one piece, so far it has been used for the current opening, a music video, and now this special. This animations style is quite difficult to replicate. Megumi Ishitani and Keisuke Mori!! they're the directors who made it possible. The animation has improved so much that it's hard to believe it's a weekly anime now lol.

sammy

God I love seeing people who are in the middle of one piece watch the fan letter episode and get WHIPLASH from the animation quality (this is what up to date one piece looks like and I refuse to believe TOEI isn't being funded by the Yakuza because god DAMN the budget!)

WillGlacier

Idk that shit has some MAJOR SPOILERS in it. Like one of the op's just straight up spoils the end of a fight if I remember correctly (from Wano)

WillGlacier

You should definitely check out newest op opening for how animation has changed.

TTJek

the animation changes a few times the fan letter is animation for current one piece

vork88

Man... I've been depressed 20 odd years running now. That shit really does just keep stacking. 😅

RedRam-Ipsen

Sorry I can't read CP agents seriously 😭

Douglas Ribeiro

Love this episode one because of all the little easter eggs. Which makes a rewatch even more fun as you get to spot them, like the CP agents running with the fake robin and the fox in a bag, or when they see the bird you can see Sanji's nosebleed fountain. But what I really love most is it gives the perspective of relatively normal humans. You see how terrifying Marineford would've been for a normal person. It also gives you a better idea of how Usopp sees the world seeing all these monsters fight.

OMG LETS GOOOOOOO 🔥🔥
