The Legend of Vox Machina 3x10

final binge for season 3!

Comments

Raishan had no impact on the story until the end. VM knew they could use Mythcarver to find the vestiges, so without her they still would go to Marquet, run into Ripley, gone to hell, and all that followed. They already knew Thordak's eggs were hatching, so Raishan's time pressure was extraneous. Even without Raishan, the best course of action was to have the army keep the dragonlings busy while VM fought Thordak, so the battle would turn out the same. Raishan was about as useful as Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

i wanna point out a tiny as hell detail, but at the introductory scene of stilben, there was a pig-nosed i think orc?, cleaning or polishing a blade in the foreground - there was a tear streaming down his face, and it's so curious, like what's the story about that?

NickAsNickName

Her first reaction to Raishan was to tell her to fuck off, which the group went along with. Then the group verified that the eggs were real, so Raishan was telling the truth about the imminent threat. Keyleth had no other ideas, so the group used Raishan's intel. If the group had listened to Keyleth, Taldorei would be ashes from the eggs hatching.

I think her complaint was more about her perspective not being respected by the group. The group did benefit from listening to Raishan in the beginning- hence the plate vestige. However, they didn't really seem as skeptical of Raishan as the above comments suggest. If I recall from the first episode of the season, they seemed ready to agree with the dragon even though they heard Keyleth's thoughts about her. Although working with Raishan was helpful, had the group been more suspicious of her since episode 1 (per Keyleth's testament), maybe they would have caught Raishan after Thordak died. But who knows, its just what-if's

Fox-Man the Wise

Agreed. I do like Keyleth but she is completely in the wrong with her moral high road. Nobody in the group trusted Raishan, they just hoped that her vengeance against Thordak was stronger than her evilness as a dragon. I mean in episode 8 she even says "Nobody trusts Raishan less than me, but we didn't listen to her before and it got Percy killed." You don't get to take the high road and gaslight everyone else when you admit firsthand that ya'll have no choice but to listen to her.

It can also be honestly argued that VM turned on her long before she turned on them, considering how many times they pretty much told her they would kill her if they could get away with it. It's not as bad as it was in the actual play series (they really did her dirty there), but seriously Raishan was given no reason not to turn on them as soon as their alliance was done.

GingerBardMan

Keyleth annoyed me so much at the start of this episode--she said that she knew all along that Raishan was bad, but everyone ignored her... But Keyleth never had *any* other ideas. And she blamed *everything* on Raishan, even when she was clearly wrong. She was a personification of the "thanks, Obama" meme. If the group had done what Keyleth wanted, they never would've gotten the Plate of the Dawnmartyr--the thing that wound up finally defeating Thordak. Meanwhile, Raishan said from the beginning that she had exactly one goal in common with VM: kill Thordak. She never claimed to be good, and the mistake was for everyone (including Keyleth) to trust her for one moment past Thordak's death.

20:16 Ah the game Critical Role made based around an enemy in campaign 2

Trevor Appel

I don't think Pike was present at the time. He was yelling at Vax who was the one holding Scanlan's body.

Dragon0921

Thank the random name generator that came up with Scanlan Shorthalt 🤣

TurtleKungFu

When that came up I was a little surprised by how much softer it was

Broccoli Ben

Definitely. Probably the only time Grog raised his voice at Pike the entire campaign.

TurtleKungFu

Yeah, and Grog's "FIX HIM" was alot more visceral and desperate when they failed to resurrect him.

Edward French

After they killed Thordak, there wasn’t this much to finding Raishan. They kinda just went straight to her using a common scrying spell or something along those lines. Another thing is that Scanlan DIED died during the fight, but having him actually die would just make the show’s deaths a bit redundant. Despite these changes, I love how they’ve handled the story telling to make it more interesting
