That is Scanlan's voice actor singing. Sam Reigel was in the original American production of Les Miserable when he was a teenager. Dude has pipes!

2025-05-22 07:43:54 +0000 UTCAs someone who has watched all the Critical Role campaign 1 I can say this; You are 100% correct that they are not ready, and that's what makes it so brilliant. I think almost all of my favourite moments came from the next part of the story, so I hope it translates well into the show.

2024-11-12 23:10:26 +0000 UTCSo I actually have no clue what happens next, I haven't watched/listened to Critical Role, but I will say that this "necromancy shit" that they've been setting up and keep teasing--what they keep calling 'the Whispered One'--is a very, very, VERY big deal in D&D. I'd actually be very surprised if it happened at all next season unless there's a huuuuge time-skip, because Vox Machina is NOT ready for this threat. The Chroma Conclave would have been squashed like bugs by this thing.

2024-11-04 13:34:14 +0000 UTCTechnically not wrong either. Like the lawful evil devil himself
Patrick Anderson
2024-11-04 04:48:29 +0000 UTCHe also sang that song the day before he had surgery which makes the song sound even more emotional.

2024-11-02 10:19:42 +0000 UTCYes that is indeed Sam, Scanlan’s VA singing. A little behind the scenes he sung this song the day before he got surgery for throat Cancer.

2024-11-02 10:17:55 +0000 UTCIn D&D Lore: A creature can be brought back to life with a ritual by a cleric so long as you have the right material costs, they did not die naturally, and the soul can and WISHES to return to the world. Yes! That’s right! Souls have monetary value in D&D! Why else would devils use them?! It’s like they’re using electronic bank statements! Each soul costs a ton of money to live again and it’s easier so they use those! However, this would normally be nearly impossible if the body were dead for more than a week. But luckily Orthax was nearby, and so too was Percy! Orthax and Xerxes is a good depiction of Demon vs Devils in D&D. Devils have rules they are forced to follow but are evil when they can get away with it. Demons have no rules and are more like primal powers of hate, guilt, sorrow, rage, etc. “The Devil went down to Georgia” would’ve been a devil. “Sauron from LOTR” (which she’s watching rn :3) would be a Demon lord

2024-10-31 04:39:46 +0000 UTCTo be fair a lot of people forgot about it in the Livestreams too.

2024-10-29 15:24:05 +0000 UTCA lot of reactors I watch seemed to have forgotten about the spinning black orb of death underneath Whitestone.

2024-10-28 12:20:28 +0000 UTCGrog cheering for shopping during the Chateau scene is hilarious considering how much Travis, his player, openly hates shopping trips in D&D. Even funnier: The fact that one of Ant's many joke suggestions for the final villain was completely right. This man will NEVER beat the prewatch allegations. Also, yes, Sam Riegel, voice of Scanlan sings all the Scanlan songs, Matt Mercer even sang some non-Scanlan songs this season. Another thing, the Briarwoods, Delilah was a necromancer, Sylas was a vampire, and the orb at the end of this episode is meant to be reminiscent of the orb at the end of season 1.

2024-10-28 02:42:36 +0000 UTCSpeedster_King hoping that is true, as i have heard that as well, but until I get confirmation I'd still say it's worth seeing since (spoiler in rest of comment) how would they even do that during the tary season, especially after everyone split up, which didnt even happen in the campaign
Ellerian
2024-10-26 23:14:06 +0000 UTCRemember, at the end of season 1, lady Delilah said "Trust in the whispered one, for we are his blood." The devil Xerxes also mentioned being someone's blood, after he sowed a seed of doubt in Pike's heart, and that "the time of his ascension draws near."

2024-10-26 22:27:27 +0000 UTCYeah wrapped up the song at 1 AM b4 his throat surgery. Glad his recovery is going so good.

2024-10-26 21:18:53 +0000 UTCThe dark orb thingy at the end is a callback to the ending of Season 1
GingerBardMan
2024-10-26 20:26:13 +0000 UTCYep, it's not the orb in Whitestone though.

2024-10-26 18:13:02 +0000 UTCOn a recent Wired video, Matt Mercer said that the Big Bad of TLoVM is Thordak. That cheeky fuck.

2024-10-26 16:41:38 +0000 UTCah nice. Well I know Campaign 3 will be awhile since that is still going on. ep 112 just came out this week.
Icy
2024-10-26 16:40:54 +0000 UTCFYI: The "chunky" comment about Keyleth's vomit was a callback to the first episode of season 1, when she was drunk puking and Pike said "so chunky..." :)
Luffyiscool
2024-10-26 16:35:32 +0000 UTCThey are already working on Campaign 2. 😄👍

2024-10-26 16:15:29 +0000 UTCI hope at some point Campaigns 2 and 3 get a show like this.
Icy
2024-10-26 15:52:02 +0000 UTCI looked up info about the campaign and they did make changes in the show for the sake of writing, so there are some changes to how things went in the campaign from what I found. I'll put any spoilers below. Percy was revived right away in their game since they just rushed his body to a temple to get revived. And apparently there would have been deaths by now but the show wanted to add more weight to it then just easier revives like the game.
Icy
2024-10-26 15:51:05 +0000 UTCI agree, and what they're doing makes sense... I just don't see how they can do it at this point without it feeling forced or watered down. Especially if it winds up being a mid season finale thing that gets resolved in a few episodes.

2024-10-26 15:33:29 +0000 UTCHe also won 2 Emmy awards

2024-10-26 14:25:16 +0000 UTCSeason 4 got greenlit!
Grumbledor .
2024-10-26 13:16:03 +0000 UTCScanlan's VA Sam Riegel does in fact do all the singing for Scanlan. Like Scanlan he's basically the singer of the group, though Laura Bailey and Ashley Johnson also have some pipes! Surprisingly Matt Mercer also sang a couple of songs this season (The Ruby Song in episode 2 and the song that was playing during Percy's death)
Dragon0921
2024-10-26 13:03:29 +0000 UTCIt honestly wouldn't have made sense to attempt it in this season. All the turmoil Scanlan felt was towards himself choosing between the team and Kaylie. He had no reason to be mad at the team and it would have felt forced if they tried. Also Sam mentioned that they weren't sure they were getting a season 4 at the time and they didn't want to end it on such a sour note
Dragon0921
2024-10-26 13:00:42 +0000 UTCYeah they want death to carry more weight, which it won't have if they constantly kill and immediately revive the characters. This is also why Craven Edge didn't kill Grog or why Scanlan was only in a coma like state instead of dying in the Thordak fight.
Dragon0921
2024-10-26 12:58:43 +0000 UTCIt's related to him, yes!
Dragon0921
2024-10-26 12:57:20 +0000 UTCThey could go for 5 seasons, there was a leaked document during the actors strike that season 4 through 5 were in production.

2024-10-26 12:55:17 +0000 UTCBy the way they got renewed for a fourth (and probably final) season
Yeah I Guess
2024-10-26 12:49:08 +0000 UTCNo, its something left behind by the whispered one
Yeah I Guess
2024-10-26 12:48:24 +0000 UTCThe voice actor for Scanlan did sing that song at the end as well as all of his other songs in the series. He has a background in musicals and acapella. This was one of the last songs he sang before undergoing surgery for throat cancer.

2024-10-26 12:31:49 +0000 UTCOh. That's a... choice.

2024-10-26 12:14:52 +0000 UTCNever seen the campaign or anything, just looks like the orb from end of season one
GingerRaven
2024-10-26 11:44:17 +0000 UTCThe orb at the end is the whispered one no?
GingerRaven
2024-10-26 11:43:40 +0000 UTCDoes anyone know when the lord of the rings reaction will be coming out? It's clearly been delayed due to the hack as it was supposed to be our last week.
Twiska Brand
2024-10-26 11:35:55 +0000 UTCI wouldn't. At least, not yet since the cast of CR has said in interviews that they still plan to pay that off albeit in a different way in a later season
Speedster_King
2024-10-26 11:26:02 +0000 UTCUp to this point resurrecting him, Percy has been apart of the story all the way up to fighting Raishan. His soul was being held by Orthax, but with the way they wrote it here, it makes better sense how he was resurrected and makes for a much more interesting story than “Percy just died so let’s just bring him back via ritual”.
Broccoli Ben
2024-10-26 11:22:00 +0000 UTCThis season was something. Also I think the being connected to those orbs is either an old evil god or a very powerful Lich.
Deathwatch45776
2024-10-26 11:10:52 +0000 UTCWhen the group fought Raishan, she was still her green dragon self. It wouldn’t surprise me if Matt Mercer had planned the soul transfer in the first place but the party got to her early.
Broccoli Ben
2024-10-26 11:00:29 +0000 UTCI would definitely recommend watching the campaign version on how Scanlan left. Its... a wee bit different.
