Straw Hat 701+702

NOOOO

ngl I feel like saying "can't blame the kids, they grew up in a terrible environment" meanwhile Doflamingo's mom and dad also grew up in said environment and still turned out the the only non racist/ non bigoted Celestial dragons. Like no shit their world view is skewed but you can't use one argument for the kids and not also use it for the adults who JUST LIKE THE KIDS grew up in said environment. But yeah their dad is a dumbass and should have stayed home and instead try to raise his kids to be like him and his wife, and hopefully they would have kids of their own and raise them to also not be evil celestial dragons

WillGlacier

yeah like she uses the same logic for the children but she doesn't realize that homing and his wife are literally just the same case but they are adults. The fact that he and his wife even WANTED to be treated as humans in the first place is fucking insane considering their environment growing up

WillGlacier

the plot like my gravy thickens

Ignis Flame

Alicia shows her gun expertise haha. Guns don't need drum mags to shoot burst or full auto btw.

Rat #41

Oda has made some joke explanaitions of how Guns in OP work They are basically magic at this point with normal flintlocks being able to fire 10+ times

Karatsuki

I will never blame Homing for what happened. Its true he had no concept of normal human life but thats not his fault. Marie Jois was all he had ever known, all his family stretching back generations had ever known. I think one of his only crimes was his naivety

Simulacrae

We see the reverse with Koby. Having the strength of will to pursue your dreams actively improves your body in this universe.

Joel Sasmad

Since you were commetning on the Don Quixote family going so downhill within 16 years with their looks being affected by crushed dreams, there is some truth in that. In the manga there's a SBS section where Oda answers questions among other things. He made sketches of various characters (including the Straw Hats) how they would look like in the future if something goes wrong in their life and let's just say none of them were of beauty haha. The other thing is Oda often likes to draw horrible people extra ugly especially the Celestial Dragons.

Antarael Dulacre

Oh my god i was waiting for this since you said "can you imagine a body of a dead kid in OP? That's too dark for this show" some hundred episodes ago. I really got a whole Toei flashback in my mind about Law finding the children when you said that

Denaze

Thank you

Aaro Tiljander

I've actualy love Doffy's character cause, how can you blame the way he thinks?. He was raised to believe that humans were like animals and, the moment he could have gotten closer to them and actualy begin to understand that it's not true and begin to feel empathy they decided to hunt them down like a pack of hyenas for crimes that they may or may not comited. His believes only strengthened by the pain of loss

Eric

Way I like to describe Homing is Terminally Naive.

ChaosSepher

8:35 I think that revolver is the same type used by Mr. 5 on Little Garden against Usop and he said it was a model from North Blue, where we are now. So nice continuity/reference. 28:50 Homing declaring himself a human is likely a reference to Hirohito's "Humanity Declaration" (IIRC the chapter's title was just that) when he declared he wasn't a living god after the end of the war.

leviathan_13

Secondarily, Oda's wordplay and reference game is on point with Laws' name. Trafalger D Waters Law, Trafalger and Waterloo being the two battles where Napoleon suffered his biggest defeats.

So, Oda based the whole Flevence being used to mine something those in charge knew was unhealthy but fuck them commoners thing on an IRL situation. Small towns in northern Italy that used to be centers for mining and processing asbestos, and the townsfolk were told don't worry about all that white dust covering everything, it's perfectly natural and healthy minerals.

Seraphem

While I do agree the father is 100% to blame for what happened to Doffy, it makes a lot of sense for him to be that oblivious. He has no concept of actual human life like you said, infact i'm sure he didnt even know why commoners were so bloodthirsty to kill them. He was an idealist who wanted to be human for the novelty, without actually empathizing with them and their experiences

Santi

Homing's situation is terribly tragic and unfortunate, yes... he was part of the system that creates so much suffering in the world.... but that's the thing.... unlike the majority of Celestial Dragons who are actually terrible people.... Homing was a genuinely good person who was blinded by his own privilege and perception of the world. Yes, it's true that he must've had slaves due to what Doffy was saying, but to a Celestial Dragon having slaves is not a bad thing... Homing had no comprehension of the damage he was doing even if he had no malicious intent whatsoever. His parenting towards Doflamingo and Rocinante is also another consequence of being raised as a Celestial Dragon, he had no concept of what real parenting is like beyond trying to give superficial advice. Homing's biggest sin was being too naive, he should've kept his previous life a secret... at least until he had formed an actual connection with the Town's people. But because he didn't.... all of his family suffered the consequences. If anything... it is truly a miracle that Homing and his wife were even able to reach the conclusion that they're humans just like the rest of the inhabitants of the world. Homing was truly an exceptional individual..... at least by Celestial Dragon standards.

Julio Castillo

Doffy's parents while sees humans as equals but still has that upper status mindeset(they did have slaves xd). Instead seeing humans as lower than them, it feels like they see them in a small box. Not knowing the things of a regular person has gone through and complexities.

sammy

The crime Doffy's father committed was being ignorant to the world. He's like a man throwing his family into boiling water thinking it will make them clean.

Cole Savoie

the best thing about the one peice commuinty is i have never seen a "doffey did nothing wrong" post

Lance Ivy

What happen with don quixite family that they decayed so fast? Dressrossa happened They became lazy, they become royalty

Faroth

what are aunts and uncles for if not buying kids annotmy books and leaving mom to explain it to them . remeber that noogie sis have fun lol

Lance Ivy

"not enough guns in japan " i mean yeah didnt you see the politcal assassins have to make their own lol

Lance Ivy

i am gunna cook your noodel garp is 79 years old sengoku is 78 lao G is 70 its the life you live

Lance Ivy

There’s a big difference between Doffy’s family and Luffy’s crew that centers the themes of this arc; Doffy’s people trust him due to his power and charisma; Luffy’s crew trusts him because he trusts them back.

unknown organism

i now wanna see toffee from SVtFoE dressed as doffy, thank you

Yagi di Hoshi

All I have to say is this, WELCOME BACK!!! To more PAIN PIECE!! Pain piece is now the nickname for all the flashbacks. Yes, yes it is him Alicia 🤣 he's a real man 🤣 One piece gun logics are weird. Always has been. You say that but remember laws nickname is the surgeon of death. I'm glad I'm drinking as I'm watching this right now, also you just realized it was pain piece 🤣😂

UndeadNovaKing 0

The dad was somewhat less dumb in the manga, with toffy being the one to accidentally reveal that they were celestial dragons, instead of the father just saying it straight out.

Keenan Hope

"Watch One Piece! It's a fun goofy pirate adventure about a stretchy rubber boy who is a good bean." 700 episodes later "Oda forces you to watch a child survive the equivalent of an ethnic cleansing while losing everything in the process." The Pain Piece is REAL!

Smiling_Jack

she din't miss it, it was never said before

millecamps

Agreed, I don't think that Homing can be called "bad" or "evil" by any stretch of the word, he's just fatally, tragically naive/obtuse, and his whole family paid for it.

FreshFire

I mean, I think there is a big difference between "Worship the ground I walk on" and "I just want to live a normal life".

BirthdayParty

One of the reasons why I love Doffy and the Donquixote Family is that it is somewhat resembling the strawhats, the crew actually seems to care for each other a lot and they do a great job of showing it in the flashback especially

Taavi

Law's extended name is a first time reveal here. Though I doubt that many would mind you getting excited about something excitable twice.

Hynkka

Ok looking forward to it love that anime and to hear your input as an volleyball player

Makujos

Good ol' pain piece

ZackdasBohne

Doflamingo's father was a good man, but he and his wife were just very naive and genuinely did not understand that the commoners hated and despised the celestial dragons. It's just like with Myosgard when he arrived at Fishman Island ( he thought that they would welcome him and treat him like a god even after threatening his former slaves ).

Alexander Saldivar

Easy to forget, honestly.

Anzac-A1

This is the first time it is revealed at all here.

ChaosSepher

I think I should point out something I'm unsure if you realised or not. Celestial Dragon's don't understand they are hated by the people. They think all the bowing and slaves are gifts and kindnees that they receive for being the beloved Celestial dragons. They think they are loved and respected because they don't understand people do it out of fear. They think slaves are normal and that them acting angry instead of honored is them being weird slaves

Adrian

It's fair that you missed him having "D" in his name. Everyone just calls him "Trafalgar Law" most of the time.

Anzac-A1

I have 3 more collabs coming up. After that I can give a better idea of what content I’m doing :) hoping to do more haikyu at the end of next week

aliciaxlife

pain piece

Aku

Is there any plan to continue haikyu in the near future
