They just didn’t care that much for consistency and continuity during the first seasons. That’s why some of us in the fandom call the first 3 seasons of AT the “Episodic Era”.

2024-11-05 12:32:22 +0000 UTCI don't understand why you insist on keeping those subtitles on. They're too big and timed terribly. They're also not just subtitles but sound effects. It's just unnecessary, distracting, blocks details, and at worst, completely spoils jokes and plot before it happens. I also don't get the PB hate at this point in the show. It's a fairly basic fantasy setting with princesses and Finn's just a kid like in any fantasy where he wants to kiss a princess because he likes her. I don't think going straight to the age gap weirdness is really relevant due to that sort of fantasy / storybook trope. Most of early adventure time heavily follows that kind of characterization before they really had Finn growing up throughout the series and it becomes more about his journey. PB deserves her animosity that fans tend to throw her way for her sly tricks, but at this point in the show, she's mostly very kind to people and Finn, and the consequences and reasons for her being the way she is isn't yet relevant. They mostly use her as a plot point for more storybook-like tropes like Ooo royalty meetings, Princess duties, being a damsel in distress, etc. THAT SAID. I agree that this episode always was the most "out of character" PB situation to be in, but only if you treat the early show too heavily. Finn's just a teen figuring out his stuff in a storybook world and has a princess that he likes to help, who is confusing to him. Glad you like ice king so much.
