Captain America: The First Avenger

THIS GOT ME IN MY FEELINGS

(avengers will be pushed to tomorrow)
Coma has time to record Rogue One today so we are gonna do that.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Comments

no, it was experiments, confirmed in winter soldier. my bad

Kyllix

I think Bucky was being tortured for information, not experimented on. He was repeating his name and army group, which is classic anti interrogation training.

Kyllix

There's also no point in watching them either. They really don't add anything.

Anzac-A1

You missed alicias acknowledgment of chracter writing. Not suprising though, you miss a lot of things usually. After her bit alicia said: "Man... We get you're likeable but holy shit". This in refernce to how Steve is meant to be the ultimate good guy. And as some who went to film school Alicia can recognize obvious writing choices in dialogue. She even goes out of her way to explain to us that, yes she did understand what just happened. 18:28

Lightinger

you missed the point of steves answer of wanting to kill nazis' not surprised though, you miss a lot of things usually. the question was him wanting to kill and he answers that thats not his ultimate goal. its not that he wouldnt kill anyone, its that thats not what he wants to do over everything else.

mitchhamilton64

So a couple of things: The treatment that Bruce Banner was unknowingly trying to replicate, which resulted in the creation of The Hulk, was the treatment that was used to turn Steve Rogers into Captain America. In effect, The Hulk is, in a way, a failed version of Captain America, and in another, he's something of a cousin - one who is powered by emotions. The more emotional Hulk becomes, the stronger he becomes. You criticized the portrayal of Bruce Banner for being stoic and unemotional, but that was the point of the portrayal. Banner was forcefully suppressing his emotions to suppress The Hulk. That's why The Hulk was so much more emotive than Banner. The shield isn't boomeranging. It wasn't explained very well in the movie, but the serum improved everything about Rogers, including his mind. He's able to think so quickly that he can calculate the force, trajectory, spin, and rotation needed to send his shield where it needs to be, including a rebound back to him, all in the moment before he throws it. The end credit scenes aren't spoilers for the upcoming movies, they're teasers. There's no point in skipping them or cutting them short.

Moku

@10:04 Interesting to see what appears to be a Sherman Firefly in an American reel as it was a British operated variant of the Sherman, also the Firefly would not exist for another 2 years.

Yellow_Lola

The Alicia's Favorite Character Curse is one of the most painfully hilarious things about her reactions xD

The Force

Samuel Adams. I don't drink beer but nothing screams American Patriotism than a beer named after one of our Founding Fathers

G0R0_!ch!B@n25

1:16:13 R2D2 Alicia

Dekkarr

Ahhh this movie was so good! Loved your reaction to it. I had no idea what to expect coming into this film the first time, least of all opening on a discovery on ice. When you realize there’s no way he makes it back your heart just sinks. I love this film just as much as I did when I first saw it. Interesting things: Captain America debuted in march 1941, nine months before the United States entered ww2. The cover of the first issue had him punching Hitler in the jaw. When he was first unfrozen in avengers #4, he had been on ice only about 20 years. There had been captain America comics that had him fighting into the 50s but they were retconned as him being secretly replaced in the public eye after getting frozen.

Andrew birds

father asked me why I'm watching an Asian with boobs

Danger Zone

You not knowing anything about Marvel going in is honestly making these reactions really fun.

DrCatspaw

As a film student.... that is odd

DrCatspaw

We both know Canada has the best beer! XD

Arian Khalil

1:16:15. R2-D2? HAHAHAHA

sebas hernandez

I'm having so much god damn fun rewatching these marvel movies as you do. It makes me really excited to see when you get to some of the later entries.

Juniper Alsop

What is with Alicia and character she likes ending up being dead... first was Gandalf and now Bucky...

Jimify

Fun fact, when Steve emerges from that pod, that was the first time the actress for Peggy met Chris Evans in person. She was so taken aback by his build that her first reaction was to feel his pecs. That scene was not part of the script.

Miguel Soares

the actor who plays red skull is Hugo weaving, he played agent smith in the matrix, Elrond in LOTR and V in V for vendetta, hes a very good actor!

John

OK! is Steves defence, if Natalie Dormer came onto me that strong, i'd fold so dam hard and forgot my own name

Healing&Harm

Hi Alicia, I am German and I wanted to thank you for your words. Unfortunately, it is true that we are still called Naz*s whenever something doesn't go as it should! Above all, our government is making every effort to brand anyone who criticizes the state as a Naz* as quickly as possible. The term has now become so meaningless that hardly anyone has any problems with it anymore, which is why we are experiencing a strong shift to the right in our country. Over the last few decades, we have been brought to the point where we are afraid of being called Naz*s. But in the last 5 years, nobody is bothered by being called that anymore. On average, over 30% of our youth now vote for right-wing extremist parties. Many fear that the history that most of us still detest and to which we are always reduced will repeat itself in the coming years. By the way, I follow you because you speak very clear and distinct English, to my ears. I just like your voice. ^^

hoped1988

*Duke Nukem Theme* "Punching n*zis is a slippery slope" *Duke Nukem Theme* "And I love waterslides. Weee Wohoo"

Bxz 3492

I find it weird that Alicia doesn't know about the Wilhelm Scream, the scream/yell she attributes to Star Wars.

Kap

To explain caps shield, because its made of vibranium which absorbs vibrations, it can bounce off of surfaces with no loss of momentum, as for why it comes back, its just that with his super soldier brain cap can calculate angles so well, he intentionally throws it to bounce how he wants, unlike thors hammer which just magically returns to him

Unstablebeast

Oh no the giant green monster wasn't boring. Just everything else like the entire other parts of the movie with the bad actor who got replaced and the characters who showed up in Hulks origin movie that never shows up again ever

WillGlacier

The way she yells "AZZUU AZUUU cut this out" Reminds me of that char in the Disney Llama prince movie. Ahh YES Yzma and KRONK! ps: can we talk about what a Gigachad name KRONK is.

Azi

I love the reference to the Indiana Jones movies in the Norway scene. "While the Fuhrer digs for trinkets in the desert." Edit: Dang, she really does have the worst luck with favorite characters. Edit 2: I'm not sure you realized it, but Cap was not intentionally cryofrozen. When they found him at the start, he was in the wreck of the plane at the end.

Matt Clark

6:05 am when your mentioned the time :P

Alex

I like you, and respect your commentary, but sometimes you need to pause. Cause you constantly miss shit that you wouldn't miss if you would stop talking or listen.

Kyle Reed

yeah please remove this. It isn't worth posting it here. Her discord has a channel for MCU that she is unable to see. If you really need to post it then post it there.

YukoValis

Maybe in the early movies he does, but not in later ones. And in the comics he too weak to even speak of

Cream_That_Corn

To answer the shield coming back when thrown, Captain America has one of the highest physical and combat intelligences in Marvel. He so much so that he can always throw the shield in a way that it ricochets back to him.

Grandmasta

Unless it's an X-Men comic.

Technical_Analysis

The shield isn't just made out of a rare metal. Howard says it absorbs all vibration. Which means it's basically impenetrable.

EthanEverhart

Hulk was awesome certainly not boring

Charlie baker

Additional everyone thinks Cap is about 'America yeah!' he's not Cap is what America could be, should be, dreams of being he's not 'America rara' he's the dream of America, he's the best parts of it and yes he's also the guy willing to say when it fails in that

Andy me

yay :3

Yagi di Hoshi

The Grenade scene is yes one of the key moments that sells what makes Steve a hero. Steve Rogers is not a hero because of the Super Soldier Serum, that just brought out the hero that he always was.

Andy me

yea of course. but that doesn't explain why they picked that specific baseball game. again, they could've just chosen one from a point in time AFTER Cap was frozen. do i need to explain it again or do you understand what i'm trying to say?

Chris Foley

This, and the iron man movies are the best of the "phase 1" movies, in my opinion at least. Hulk was boring as shit and as someone who studied Norse Mythology, every Thor movie hurts my soul with how INACURRATE they are (to a point where it feels like they are making fun of our culture)

WillGlacier

According to the creator, All Might is just based on his shameless love for American superheroes. So TECHNICALLY YES since Captain America IS an American superhero ^^

WillGlacier

hang on, is All Might based on Cpt America?

Yagi di Hoshi

I hate to be that guy, but would you consider removing this post? Just stating "*Spoilers for Alicia*" might not be enough, simply glancing at the post with out reading the content you can still see key words that could completely ruin later reveals for her. I hope you'll consider this.

AlthosHol

For the love of Marvel Jesus please don't post spoilers. Even if you add a line at the top that says there are spoilers Alicia still might see something that spoils a major reveal later. DON'T ruin things for her and by extension us!

AlthosHol

Captain America is pretty rad. I didn't really know before the movie, here in Sweden they didn't really bother translating and localizing Captain America comics until like the 90s at earliest I think?Pretty reasonable assumption honestly that "Captain America" wouldn't sell in Sweden. I might have skipped this movie when it came out if not for Captain America appearing in Spider-Man comics since they were on the New Avengers together in 2006 and then had some great interactions during the Marvel Civil War which opened my mind a bit to the character. As of today I've read a fair bit of the Captain's comics, which are really old by the way. Steve appeared in comics before Marvel was Marvel, when the company was still Timely Comics. I actually really like in this movie how they include the propaganda montage that pretty much directly mirrors the actual nature of Captain America's comics, down to telling people to buy war bonds which was very much something the comics did during the war. The Captain wasn't the first superhero from Timely/Marvel(/Atlas during the 50s) but he was early. The first ones were Namor the Sub-Mariner and the Human Torch who actully has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo at the science fair in the beginning, "Phineas Horton's Synthezoid" that's the Human Torch aka Jim Hammond. Not to be confused with Johnny Storm, the second Human Torch who actually was played by Chris Evans in the Fantastic Four movies (which might be worth watching if the mood strikes you even though they're not part of the MCU).

Bob

*Spoilers for Alicia* Did anyone else see a cut of this movie where when bucky got saved, he was saying the activation codes?? I swear I remember that

MKE2ND

She's watching all of marvel in order, avengers is next

Nate D.

me beg for avaengers plz :C

Thinkace

This, Agent Carter touching Steve's chest wasn't scripted, girl was being horny on main. The directors thought it was brilliant and left it in cause it just fit so well xD

Shadowbane1992

The shield does have some properties that make that happen though since it actually bounces around and doesn’t just clatter to the ground. In theory he wouldn’t be able to do that with any metal shield or frisbee (though I imagine he probably has in the comics).

Rakoon Shampoo

the chest touch agent carter did was off script.. she couldnt help herself..

Zolfried

Alicia’s Marvel Ratings Iron Man 1 - 8/10 Captain America First Avenger - 8/10 Iron Man 2 - 7.5/10 Thor 1 - 7/10 Incredible Hulk - 4/10

Broford

which is Funny considering in the Comics Ross becomes the thing he hates. I wont go into Spoiler territory in case Alicia decides to go watch the Avengers tv shows or any Marvel cartoon later on

Tribal Typhoon

The only people who know what phase was what were people watching movies as they released. Because we were so hungry for more, we were latching onto any news we could get.

KatoBen

I like comparing the commander here with the one in the Hulk movie. In this one the colonel is hard on everyone but he legitimately cares about what is right. He is willing to work with those who have proven themselves. Whereas the commander in Hulk even at the very end just could not get the memo. Even after defeating the abomination he helped create.

YukoValis

Alicia talking about how great her nap was and then later revealing that it's 6:00 am is a mood.

Aerowind

It wasn't tell you said something

Joseph Zen-aku Kaga

Yes let's focus on my spelling and not the fact that I dropped

Joseph Zen-aku Kaga

The second captain America movie is my favorite Marvel movie to date :) this one good too but DAMN

Christo Badenhorst

I really forgot just how great this movie is

Gildarts1#fan

Do you all get stone brand beer? I'd have to see the list to see what your best options are.

Dale Cooper

Hey to be fair Scooter is absolutely one of the most American characters ever. I am totally fine with Him being your standard!

Jacob Biehl

Thank you

Aaro Tiljander

After rewatching this movie, I'm reminded that the term "cooked" more or less came from the simile "until the goose is cooked"

MarakamiSG

I think it was Fury testing him. He told the staff they were easing him in, he even told Cap they were trying to ease him in, but he wanted to make sure Cap was still good after 70 years on ice, so he gave him a little puzzle to figure out.

Technical_Analysis

Captain America does also have super thinking, every time he throws his shield he calculates every angle and the trajectory he needs to throw it to have it come back. There is nothing special about the shield that makes it come back to him, it’s all him.

Michael

CAPTAIN--- cringe country save us from it, Captain America san

Yagi di Hoshi

This was such a wonderful movie and it was one that I also didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did. I am looking forward to your future Marvel reactions. We all are waiting for certain movies to be reacted to. So keep on keeping on and enjoy the ride that we all had to wait YEARS for. I don't mean that in a bad way I mean that in a we are jealous you are experiencing them for the first time with relatively short intervals in-between them. For now I am looking forward to your Avengers reaction.

Matthew Martin

If it hasnt been said before. If it's still the reason i believe he runs calculations in his head to track and predict the angle of the shield he throws to come back or to be in a spot that he wants it. In the comics he could think and SEE faster. Tho i think the seeing faster has been retconned.

Sebastian Rangel

Another example of your muscles being stronger than you expect is when you get electrocuted and it sends you flying across the room it's not because of the energy blowing you away but you're muscles contracting so fast it basically forces you to jump away. I've heard of people touching live wires and it breaking their forearm because the muscle clenched so hard. Your brain runs on electrical impulses that tell you what to do but when a stronger impulse is exposed you could hurt yourself in more ways than just stopping your heart.

Cpt Babyface

Can't wait for the Avengers reaction!

Ryan Mills

They didn't know exactly who was there. SHIELD didn't exist until the 1950s.

Adam

okay i love this movie, it's probably my second or third favorite Marvel movie, but why did the S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents choose a baseball game that Steve had the potential top be at like they did? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to pick a game from a point in the future after he was submerged? Like hello???

Chris Foley

given how emotionally affected alicia was by just this first Captain America movie, I just know she's gonna love his whole arc throughout the mcu glad she fucks with the big 3 (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor)

Ellerian

It basically goes: First man: "I'll fight until each one of these bastards will end up dead, chained or crying like a baby." Second man: "I hope all three."

Gabriel Anctil

lots of people don't know but there is a peggy tv series called Agent Carter it is by far the best female focused content in the mcu

Rhiley Jones

Honestly it's more PBR and Natural Light or Ice

Gearhead4805

to be fair Alicia, Bud Light is the most American beer you can get

Draconic

Bud Light is by far the most Southern beer, it's piss water but so is most of the South (source: I live here)

Ellerian

first Gandalf, then Han, now Bucky this is crazy consistency

Ellerian

wow, gotta be honest, i didnt even know that i didnt realize it was so specific i just left it at "he gets strong" lol

Ellerian

Yep, he subconsciously mentally calculates angles and trajectories before and during each throw, so he can be standing in the right place to catch it, often walking, running, jumping, or turning to catch the shield (telling example is how the few times you see him fail to catch it, is usually when he is in motion and is stopped or slowed). Its basically a suped up version of how in real life human brains are hard wired to calculate speed and trajectory of thrown objects (look it up, its kinda neat). The unspoken implication is more or less that even that aspect of Cap's brain is operating at a higher than standard level

MasamuneJM [Jonathan]

Yep, from my understanding the explanation is he subconsciously mentally calculates angles and trajectories before and during each throw, so he can be standing in the right place to catch it, often walking, running, jumping, or turning to catch the shield (telling example is how the few times you see him fail to catch it, is usually when he is in motion and is stopped or slowed). wouldn't Marvel's version of Superman basically be Sentry?

Jealous of the nice nap. That's some good shit right there.

The shield might as well be magic with how he throws it around.

Camden Weisz

maybe to some people, that's fair, but i remember watching that scene of all those soldiers doing that salute at once and it actually unnerved me some.

Gavin Bickel

I don't know, I loved almost single thing about this movie, but the hydra salute is goofy as hell.

Malkalypse

this is the best description ive seen in years

MasamuneJM [Jonathan]

One thing I love is that there’s no CGI for shrinking Steve down to being skinny, just a lot of clever and extensive editing 😁

Chronos Hoffman

That was my favorite Captain America outfit.

wiski

So, some fun under-the-hood information about Cap's power for you (don't worry, no spoilers): So, human beings are incredibly tough, incredibly strong, incredibly agile animals, but part of the key to our longevity (on a biological level) is that our bodies naturally limit how much we can exert ourselves at a given time to a maximum of roughly 40% of our physical capabilities. We exceed these in times of danger or intense stress; we've all seen videos of people in an adrenaline rush lifting cars, but what we don't see is that they often do irreparable muscle damage to themselves in the process. At their full output, humans are capable of exerting immense amounts of strength and withstanding absurd force and conditions. Now, the essence of Captain America's power is that the super soldier serum always has him at the level of a full adrenaline rush, but with bodily endurance and healing that can keep up with it (a product of his heightened metabolism includes healing muscular damage before it becomes permanent). This extends to his physical strength, his endurance, and his mental acuity, as seen in his memory (which was already great and is now enhanced) and his spatial awareness (in being able to figure out ricochet physics and angles on the fly). Essentially, his baseline is at the peak that a human can physically be at a given time, capable of being further accentuated by adrenaline. That and they also grew him like a foot and some because why not?

Bologna Amputation

I kinda love that she didn't. Extremely cheese gremlin energy.

Bologna Amputation

Favorite Marvel Origin movie.

Moviejunkie

I know right?!

V_VMat

1:22:22 Why didn't you translate the joke instead then??

V_VMat

12:22 "Bucky, thats my new fav, if he dies i will be very upset" Damn, every time, Alicia...

Faroth

In my opinion there are two perfect casting choices in the MCU. The first is Robert Downy Jr as Tony Stark, the other is Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. I just cant see anyone else in these roles

Salem

*sees bucky* “I like Bucky! He better not die at war”

Lythr0_Nax

Funfact: steve rogers and bucky were already a pair of nerds and steve has an amazing memory, as we see in the movie: cap just saw the map with all the weapon factories once for a few seconds and he was able to recreate the positions of each one in another map with exact precision, and that has NOTHING to do with the serum Also, all the throwings of the shield need a lot of calculations in angles, and that is all him, calculate the bouncing angles to throw and get backs

Faroth

"What's the most American drink you guys can think of?" Me: "Bud light" "If you suggested that piss water Bud light I'm gonna be pissed off" Me: "oh" >.>

Joey Cat

I just realized that the general pressing the red button on the black car is a Men in Black reference "Whoa kid don't push that red button you never push the red button"

Jaffar Black Fang

My favorite part of this movie, is honestly the credits, they are so cool. (Movie is amazing overall)

Kyle Smilowski

Which is funny seeing as the Joker has probably gotten a body count higher than the Nazis could dream of. But villains are usually hypocrites.

Lukundra

girl, you should not be making fun of Hydra's salute XD you would not believe how many people found it scary

Gavin Bickel

Lmao the double salute is super corny but they couldn't just be Nazi saluting out here in a Marvel movie so I get it.

Bj Howe

Yeah even superpowered people have a rough time with those trickshots, like Spider-Man once used a garbage lid to knock a guy in the back of the head and that's from just watching Cap do it a million times.

Jacob Goodheart

Captain, motherfucking, born on the actual forth of July, America. His movies in the MCU are by far my favorite, and honestly I think this film is underrated by most people. Iron Man blew the doors off sure, Hulk was interesting but kind of lacked a good lead, and while I personally think the Thor movie isn't as bad as people say it is, I understand the cirtisim. But this? Having superhero period piece war movie is such a bold idea espically for the time this came out in. And cap man.......I'm a huge Spider-Man fan, but if he wasn't around then Steve would no shot be my favorite superhero in marvel. And this movie captures so much of why he's great, most people point to the grenade scene and while it's astounding I really like his introduction to Erkstien. I get why you laughed at his response, and I don't fault you for it but the way he just says, "I don't want to kill anyone, I don't like bullies. Don't care where they're from." is just......we live in a world that's cyncial and mean, and like you said most people would have just went "hell yeah I wanna kill nazis'!" But Steve cuts to the core of what those people are, bullies and cowards. And the fact that he's willing to fight against that despite all the major health issues he has? It shows us what he is, a good man. Something to aspire to be.

Jacob Goodheart

Yes, Steve is simply the Goodest of Beans! There's a reason Cap is the moral center and heart of the Marvel universe. These reactions are so good!!!!

Seraphem

ROUGE ONE IS SO HYPE

i'm a human being

The Joker my be a psychopath, but he's an American psychopath!

Seraphem

oh look it's Elrond from Rivendell. Man you in the wrong universe again.

marlanes

I love whenever him and Magneto meet up Magneto always fucks his shit up.

Malcorpse

Basically when you get to any movie called "avengers" you've reached the end of a phase. its bench mark pretty much

Spicy Noodles

Joking on Steve name, but what about the song another one bites the dust?

noneyabiss

your bit about how there were still innocent germans that were not nazis rings so true to me. In my country, we had to deal with our own wannabe nazi. like hitler, he was democratically elected, only to try to overturn democracy by force. he even had his officials quotting Goebbels and performing white supremacist gestures. what people forget is that most of the country hated him and he only got elected because many people didn't vote and the alternative wasn't charismatic enough. We became a laughinstock, we became pariahs in the world. So thanks for recognizing that a country's government is not its people.

Emanuel Guedes

Yeah we been knew this one was gonna hit you in the feels, a good bean man who just wants to do what’s right and tragic loss, a perfect storm of kneecapping Alicia in the feels I tell you hwat

Logan Young

Oh for how Captain catches the shield. It isnt magic or a special shield, instead its part of what makes CA a supersoldier. He can accurately throw the shield where ever he pleases AND he can predict where it will fly then run fast enough to catch it. Very few people even in the MCU could use CA shield like he does

Cole Savoie

I'm a fan of the version of Loki who crashed Aegir's banquet and roasted the Aesir just for the hell of it. As much as I love Tom Hiddleston in the role, I am a little bummed that that's the version that's a household name nowadays.

Liesmith

It's fun spotting all the actors who became more famous after. For the Dr Who fans, the girl Bucky brought to the expo was Clara Oswald the Impossible Girl.

hemahemahema

yes you have seen the actor who portrayed the Red Skull his name is Hugo Weaving and hes in the Matrix and the Lord of the Ring Films (he portrays Elrond the Master Elf of Riverwood)

Tribal Typhoon

Even in the rare Marvel/DC comics crossovers people like Joker absolutely LOATHE Red Skull

Robert Collard

Man, if I had a dollar for every time the character she picks as her favorite dies. XD

Joe Furry

"Is he a skinwalker?" that was hilarious

Destroy4Fun

kissing captain america

bloodyshadow1

Fun fact about the Red Skull. In the comics EVERYONE hates him, even other villains. Any chance someone has they beat up the red skull regardless of what's happening or who's team they are on

Cole Savoie

Your streams are Marvelous darling, simply Marvelous.

Vik Persson

Looking at her schedule, it seems she will be watching The Two Towers and The Winter Soldier in the same week. It's...interesting, to think about.

hemahemahema

Liesmith is a nickname of Loki's in the mythology. The user is probably a fan. The question is, which version? There have been so many, including Marvel's of course.

hemahemahema

The ‘I had a date’ line and that delivery still feels like a punch in the gut years later

Kuroashi

Another fun fact, the scrawny body double actually played the bartender in the scene where Steve asks the Howling Commandos to join him.

hemahemahema

She didn't recognise Arwen in The Incredible Hulk either :'( She still called her baddie though, Alicia is consistent.

hemahemahema

You should watch inglorious bastard (the most American movie) with the most American beer

The mythical sprick

I first saw this on an army base with my dad we both loved it when the movie was over all the other army guys stood up and started clapping

James Fernandez

Well I hope he took Steve on a bender the night before.

hemahemahema

Plus it's Steve. He really is the paragon of what it means to be a Hero.

Adam

Fun Triva - The Stan Cameos are thought to be both just all good fun but also a possible extention of a tradition in comics of the 'One above All' effectively God , but also meant to be the writers self insert for directly interaction with Characters , Though this is normally traditionaly reserved for Stan Lee and Jack Kirby . This normally can be small cameos like in the the movies but also actaully used for the rare pep talk or thoughts of wisdom for Stan or Kirby to directly give to and talk to their characters. Which is why Stan appears as diffrent people , in different places ,at different times . I just think its kinda cool .

Noodlecat

Guy starts speaking French Alicia speaks Canadian so she laughs. I've seen this film so many times still don't know what the guy says I'm kind of miffed she didn't explain lololol

WindWarriorPlays

I love this movie because it so perfectly captures the core of Steve Rogers/Captain America. Steve is really the closest thing Marvel has to Superman. Not in terms of powers (there are other more powered up superheroes with Superman-like abilities), but in the way Steve tends to be one of the real natural leaders and moral centers of the superhero community, and an aspirational symbol. Symbols of the America we all wish we ALWAYS were, and strive to be, not always successfully: A big city kid from Brooklyn and a small town boy from Kansas. Re: Beer, fun fact related to Herr Dr. Erskine...All our most American Beer Brands and companies were started by first generation German or Austrian Immigrants. Folks like Eberhard Anheuser and Adolphus Busch (Budweiser), Adolph Coors and Jacob Schueler (Coors), And Fred John Miller, born Friedrich Johannes Müller (Miller).

Linnaeus

Wait WTF! What is Margaery Tyrell doing in this movie??!

Julio Castillo

i mean usually important procedures like this have a no drinks for 12-24 hours before start date

DankusMemes

Yeah, was the first time she saw actual Chris Evans topless, before it was the scrawny body double.

Kaz

Great movie, can't wait for the avengers react.

Julio

I just realised how fucked it was Dr Erskine didn't let Steve drink the booze that night, knowing HE CAN NEVER GET DRUNK AGAIN. Maybe we were wrong, maybe the guy was evil.

hemahemahema

One advantage of having the same composer (Alan Silvestri) for Captain America and The Avengers, is the Tesseract sort of got its own theme, whenever people talk about Red Skull's plans for it you can hear it playing. It's of course the very first thing you hear when The Avengers starts, as it opens with a shot of the Tesseract.

hemahemahema

Nah, those are the most 'Murican!

QuibblesAndGitz

Villain Trivia: Johan Schmidt aka The Red Skull in the comics was originally just a Nazi wearing a Red Skull Mask. Later on he would go on to be injected with a variation of the Super Soldier Serum and, after being exposed to his own Dust of Death, the Skull mask would become his actual face. He like Captain America is still active in modern times. Also, the Cube aka The Tesseract, was originally known simply as the Cosmic Cube in the comics and has been used by several Super Villains over the years.

BakaSama

It was a guidon flag with the camp name and symbol on it. You would absolutely be smoked for dropping it in the dirt, even if an NCO had told you to retrieve it. It can be easily retrieved using the same method, just without letting the pole slam on the ground. I'm not deriding the scene, it works perfectly in the movie, but I think that one moment is funny for an unintended reason.

Liesmith

thats alkohal!!!! Coors is the most american and then miller light

Spicy Noodles

Love how the 2 best Avengers are basically one of the most human ones with Stark being a normal ass dude with some mech and Cap being a normal kid from brooklyn with some enhancements on the side

Karatsuki

Jez, you stayed up past 6AM to record this? I take it that means we won't be getting Avengers today as it wasn't recorded yesterday.

Twiska Brand

LESSS GOOOOOOOOOO

Thinkace

I'm less than 30 min in, and I love how annoyed alicia is by how much of a boy scout Cap is

Rej

God I love Captain America I’m a huge sucker for hero’s with a heart of gold

_Owwls_

That was a fun watch

MoD+

I don't drink BUT, the most American would either be Jack Daniels or Samuel Adams. Can't attest to the taste though

AbsurdToastling

Corona, but I also have terrible taste.

Onomatopoeia

I don't know about American beer but as an iowan i enjoy angry orchard but thats cause growing up everyone around me drank bud or PBR and both suuuuuucccckkkkk

WindWarriorPlays

"I had a date." Is such a simple heartbreaking line.

Jonathan Canfield

1 hour into the movie - Peggy: "Steve!" Alicia: "I did not know his name is Steve." That's the kind of content I'm here for.

hemahemahema

Spoilers man! Delete this

kinky28

About the shield yeah no magic. That thing doesn’t obey the laws of physics at all. Could say it’s because he was smart before the serum and after his intelligence was amplified so he knows how to throw it so it returns to him just right.

Prince of the Saiyans

Alicia silly you just watched LoTR how didn't you recognize Mr. Icky Face as the Lord of the Elves of Rivendell?!

Craig

Alicia: “Your a good man” Me: 😭

Moviejunkie

i saw this movie in 3d

vork88

iykyk

kinky28

So, the shield doesn't move like a boomerang. Vibranium, the metal it's made from, absorbs and redirects vibrations, as they mentioned, which allows it to bounce with almost no loss of energy. This, in tandem with Caps's now superbrain and understanding of geometry, allows him to throw it so it bounces and lands perfectly back in his hand.

ShreddedNinja

Only for Steve he was only willing to sacrifice himself Johann would have been willing to sacrifice his greatest mind if it meant getting the power he desired.

Alicia Barkley

This one has a special place in my heart. Not to "he just like me fr" but I also grew up a scrawny kid that ended up joining the Army. Wish they'd have given me some of that super steroid juice though.

J

Alicia hit that R2-D2 scream when Bucky was walking that beam

Ronix

I mean, as a vet, he was given the directive by an NCO and it isn't the American flag. Besides, the accurate answer is you get smoked regardless. "Nope, not quick enough. Go ahead and get down and push, hero."

J

Good choice, oldest beer in America.

J

Also! Great watch! Love this movie, and definitely love the next one. Can't wait to see you watch it!

Mitch Gates

This does happen to stir my protective instincts. I would put in work for cubey wooby.

E. H.

"CATCH A RIIIIIDE!!!" One of my most favorite characters in Borderlands! Trying to get my friend on them with playing them with him buuut scheduling and having different schedules makes it hard to. I'd love to hear which character(s) you played as in those games and which you prefer and all that!

Mitch Gates

I love agent Carter, but man I hate that scene where she shoots at Cap. It makes her come across as psychotic, and her character is so much better than that.

Liesmith

The fact your device seemingly autocorrected 'grease' to 'Grese' is both appropriately eerie and surprisingly apt.

E. H.

I think they did a good subtle job of showing the strength difference between a normal man and both Rogers and Red Skull. If you remember early in the movie with the crypt it took 4 soldiers to barely move the sarcophagus lid. Yet Red skull did it easily by himself.

YukoValis

I suppose your username 'Liesmith' can be interpreted as smith of lies because that's just not true.

E. H.

I think Alicia interprets the scene correctly; date means more than just dating in this context. Not unlike the earlier euphemism of, "danced."

E. H.

Can’t be the only one that thought of R2D2 in her scream at 1:16:13

Prince of the Saiyans

Huh, I never noticed the "push beyond 70%" parallel between Steve and Johann Schmidt - Zola and Stark/Erskine were gonna stop the power output at 70% and Steve and Schmidt got them to go beyond that.

hemahemahema

With all due respect to Alicia, "Star Wars scream sound" has me side-eyeing the credibility of her claims regarding film school. Not a grievance; I find this very, very funny.

E. H.

God I can't wait for her avengers reaction and her Captain America Winter Soldier reaction. Both peak marvel movies

Alex

Well for you spefically the actor for Hydra head person plays Elrond the Elven lord in lord of the rings

Karatsuki

Yuengling is peak American beer. It’s also the time of year that Great Lakes starts making Christmas ale.

Ethan

I know it wasn't the US flag; in Basic, if any flag touches dirt, you get smoked.

Liesmith

42:30 how Drake felt like after BBL

Royce

1:15 All American beer is piss water but if you want true American classic go with moonshine with one ice cube. It gets rid of the burn and brings out the flavor more

Trevor Appel

I won’t say what’s a spoiler, but no spoilers, y’all. She actually reads these.

nervouspirate

Joseph Zen-aku Kaga

It wasn't the U.S. flag, it was a flag to signify a checkpoint. He did as ordered.

REI

Her favorite character in lord of the rings was Gandalf, so there's definitely a theme there...

Kristian

Man, Alicia skipping with her index is perfect gif material!

Nikolaj Nielsen

that was just for buckys masculenty cap could have princess carried bucky across that beam no problem

Lance Ivy

Yeeeeeeeesss it’s already top 2

Pirate King Buggy D. Clown

Its my first time rewatching a lot of the original marvel movies in a very long time and most of them are better than I remember but MAN I loved this one so much more this time round than when I originally watched it. Everything about Steve Rogers as a hero is so refreshingly un-cynical and earnest. Im so bored of hacky edgy writing where anything remotely heroic has to have this stupid irony to it with nothing but shades of grey because the writers think it automatically makes things "deeper" or "more real" This has just been a really good time

Slurp

hes a bean alicia he ment fandu was a metphor for date lol

Lance Ivy

thats what it realy was . war bonds was the amrican goverment going person to person like hey this war is expixsive can i get a loan . in 5 years you can sell this back to me for 3% intest after the war

Lance Ivy

24:16 As someone who was in the military, I can confirm that if Steve let that flag touch the dirt, he would be doing pushups for the entirety of the MCU.

Liesmith

Alicia watching Fellowship of the Ring: "Gandalf is my favourite!" Alicia watching Captain America the First Avenger: "Bucky is my favourite!" I'm sensing a pattern here...

hemahemahema

Mexican beer is the shit still american kinda

Christian Dixson

yoooooo

Christian Dixson

I feel you.. it's like when they have "Swedish people" in movies.. and it's absolutely terrible.

Salmonero

56 mins in: those are recreations of the first Captain America comic book

Joseph Zen-aku Kaga

If you want more of the actor of Bucky he's technically in Star Wars but in the new stuff so you'll have to wait a bit.

Jobbe Smit

Let's Fucking Go!!!! This was always my favorite of the pre-2012 stuff

Adam & Miranda

Holy homonyms Batman!

Addeand

germany has done alot of good to repair their image and prove that that is behind them . at least the state they like america or anywhere realy are suffering from the loud minority of the internet

Lance Ivy

Also for okay-to-good beer: Yuengling. Especially their black and tan version

Sam Brown

The paint was just a lot of red for someone who only wears black

Lightinger

Idk about American beer Alicia, I live in America and every weekend I get a single can of Sapporo Japanese Beer

Humbertowtf

jokes on you he took the private entrance to hell lol

Lance Ivy

I'm lovin these marvel movies

Lord morokei

For good beer: New Glarus.

Squito

Pabst or Budweiser or Miller.

Squito

As an interesting reference, that "Synthetic Man" shown at the Expo was the original WW2 Human Torch, Jim Hammond, an Android created by a Jewish Man. Understandably, he kind of took the Holocaust extremely personally.

Adam

23 mins 33s in: in this seen is a form of hazing where the higher rank officers will Grese up a flag poll and make soldiers clime up it in atemps to get the flag, only 5% can succeed.

Joseph Zen-aku Kaga

marvel fans the tesseract is no mare it is the cubey wooby from now on

Lance Ivy

Bud light is THE MERICA drink lol buttttt Budweiser, and yuengling are probably the best of them but frfr craft beers and breweries are more American and original

Jimmy Recinos

so the shild is super strong and bouncy . the skill to throw and catch and use it is all him

Lance Ivy

Just found her actually lol

LordTouchMe

why would you ? you had captian canida ....serriouly look him up

Lance Ivy

shiner bock pure texas goodness

Lance Ivy

oh i love and irish red .....the beers good too ahhhhhh

Lance Ivy

The reason Captain Americas Shield comeback is simple, the super soldier serum enhanced his reflexes and he has mastered training with it to the point where he can angle it just right so that it can comeback to him.

Westin

FYI the program that gave captain america the super soldier serum is the same one that got dusted off and reinstated for the Hulk. They wanted to reproduce serum.

vincent shiflett

Let me reassure you, until these movies became popular, barely anyone knew/cared about any of these Avengers characters, the Avengers had always been B and C tier characters compared to the recognition of Spider-Man, the X-Men, which had always been the most popular comics. In the 90s, Marvel almost went bankrupt, and what saved them was selling the rights to most of their characters, and The Avengers and characters you've met was what they still had.

Verdigree

I love how they incorporated the real comics into the movie

RaineM27

Elrond really took a turn

Maxxy

My goat

Accel

"I like Bucky, he is now my favorite. if he dies I will be very upset." Oh man it's like watching a brutal car wreck about to happen in slow motion.

vincent shiflett

Fun fact the scene where Agent Carter touches Steven’s muscles chest that wasn’t scripted she couldn’t help herself and they kept it in the movie

Uncle Urdnot

I knew you’d cry hehehehe

nervouspirate

All of the "Most American" beers are mass produced piss-water; i.e. Bud Light, Budweiser, Coors, Miller ect. I would suggest smaller brewers. Fat Tire being one of, if not the, most prominent of them. Fat Tire is actually a decent American beer.

Logan Minyard

The most American beer is Budweiser. It’s literally colored like the American flag.

Cesar Andrade

Are there better MCU movies? Definitely. But man if I had to choose a “perfect” movie for the MCU I will choose The First Avenger every time. I could watch it a million times and still shed tears at Steve’s and Peggy’s final talk.

Robert Collard

1 min 10s in: I'm a non-alcoholic, but I'm also an American, if we're talking beer (bud) if we're talking alcohol (whiskey) 🤠

Joseph Zen-aku Kaga

MCU’s first period piece, and still the best. For anyone who likes the 1940s-isms in the movie, I recommend the Rocketeer (1991) by the same director (Joe Johnston), the story is very similar, and it’s basically why he got the job. Also, Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future) composed the score for this and the Avengers.

hemahemahema

How fitting that, shortly before the US Presidental elections, we got to see the most patriotic American hero (in the Marvel universe).

Chamoun101

as a norwegian, i've never heard any kind of norwegian like the one spoken at the start. it doesn't sound like any dialect i've heard of, and the way they use tone of voice sounds so off?

NickAsNickName

I prefer Iron Man

Azel !!

Had a feelin’ you’d love this one. Of the marvel movies, I’d argue Cap’s the most popular with the ladies. They’re quite the charmer! Very different from the egos of the last two films.

PrivateXimmy

Yayyyyy

Andhy thomas

In Switzerland, if you or something is 5 minutes late, that's already considered a serious crime. But 70 years! That's crazy.

Chamoun101

My favorite of the early movies!

GiantDadsShadow

He had a date.

Jimmy H Lam

Hell yeah brother, Captain America and voting all in one day! We are reaching dangerous levels of patriotism.

Jacob

Try some Danish beer xD <3 Cheers/Skål! <3

Jasmin Jakobsen

Bud light is the most American beer. It is piss water tho. US isnt exactly known for making quality beer.

Rinnzu Rosendale

Are you a Chelzor watcher? Just curious, that is her tagline, lol.

REI

perfect timing, just sat down with nothing to do, yay!

KuroOberon

YES! I must fetch some snackies and bevvies

LordTouchMe

I just woke up and sat down at my PC xD What magic is this! <3

Jasmin Jakobsen

Don’t forget some of the Matgel one shots

Ok

Can’t describe the smile that appeared on my face
