The one thing I do have to point out is that the wishing star location itself seems to remain invisible to anyone not holding the map. That is why Goldi and the bears got lost in a circle because they didn't have the map. I can see the forest using tricks to keep people away from the star forever.

After all, that Star has been there for a LONG time and NO ONE has gotten the wish yet? Nah, I don’t buy it. I think the reason the map changes depending on who has it, is because the Star WANTS people to realise that they don’t need magic to be happy. Now why have others not succeeded and learnt this, since if they had, Puss wouldn’t have commented on people not leaving the Dark Forest, well, quite simply, they failed, and the Forest swallowed them as they were lost forever, our Heroes, along with Goldi and her family are the first to succeed and pass the test.

Fairy tale characters in the Shrek universe are celebrities and that flashback, despite how short it is shows that Jack failed to reach that level of fame, as did his response of "it was just a nursery rhyme" when talking to the sisters. And when he talks about his childhood, he's saying all of that to Jimmeny Cricket, who he is clearly trolling as evident by the "What took you so long?" when called out. He's evil by choice but he DOES have a reason. Its how he copes with being just " a nursery rhyme".

It truly was the first big-budget animated movie in years to break with the "pixar look" trend of the late 2000s and early 2010s. Movies were beginning to look more and more samey and Spider-verse gave a lot of producers the confidence to trust their artists to make things look good, even if it didn't look like everything else.

That movie's art style and soundtrack are so amazing and the story is about Exodus but is more involved in the specific characters rather than any overt biblical morals. This lends into a more personal story of Moses and Ramses II.

2024-11-09 01:26:12 +0000 UTCi just can't leave this film alone: from 1:54 to 2:53 in the reaction - at the very, very start of the film, you can hear a slightly faint whistling in the Score there (that's a little drowned out by puss's voice) that comes in 8 times, rising each time - joining in with The Wishing Star/Fearless Hero's ultimate motif halfway through (i dunno, uh, four?), & leaving it to play like the legend he is before it can have a ninth, leaving it to thrive.

It's such a perfect display of Batman as a character and as a story. I highly recommend it. Along with the movie attached to it, Mask of the Phantasm. That film is a genuine masterpiece.

And she got there: Because he "Laughed At Death", had more lives than normal people get and yet treated them as without value. I think it makes a lot of sense that Death might find that offensive on a personal and professional level. ;)

Saying she wasn't his sister, that she's an orphan, that she isn't a bear, almost every time they talk he reminds her that she isn't actually part of the family, so it makes sense that her wish would be a family that she was part of. I'm glad she realized that she did have one in the end though

The movie showcases 3 villain archetypes: Goldilocks is the sympathetic villain who actually just engages in “evil” cause of a relatable or redeemable issue, in her case desire to have a family. Death is the force of nature villain, hes not evil just an unstoppable, amoral fact of life that is antagonistic to the protagonist. Simply death catching up to a reckless adventurer. Jack horner is the pure evil villain, fully dead inside and psychopathic. He is just the worst for no reason, his life was always good, he is rich and has magic yet he doesn’t really care for any if it. Hes just bad because hes an asshole. His dream itself is to have all of the magic not even to be powerful, just to deprive everyone else of it.

2024-11-07 20:27:08 +0000 UTCSo here are some lesser known hidden things in the movie. 1: If you pause on the Goldie wanted poster with all 4 portraits it spells out a message showing Goldie's desire. 2: Jacks bakery sign is the one Puss is thrown against by the giant. 3: Perritos map is all horrible things masked with innocent sounding names. "Pocket full of posies" obviously about the plague. "River of relaxation" as in a little too relaxed across the river styx. Then the worst one. "The field of quick and easy solutions" which is another way of saying something I probably can't say anymore. If you want a hint, the trees on the map for that location are known as "hangman's trees". These are of course some of the less known easter eggs. This movie easily has 20+ of them. It really is one of my favorites made. No one expected it to go so far and beyond the previous one.

The flashback, which only he and the audience saw and as such was not pretend shows him NOT with a "mansion, loving parents and a thriving baking empire". Jack also emphasizes that he "had no magic" and that "little Jack is dead". To me, that reads as someone who wants to be evil as a way to matter. Even if he can't be the protagonist of a fairy tale, he can at least be the antagonist. That's why he seems so evil and aware of it. He's trolling to make himself feel better.

The tune he always whistles is made up of nine notes, but because he’s chasing Puss down for his last life, he only whistles eight. It’s not until the final fight at the end that he finally whistles the full nine notes 2. At the beginning of the movie, the shot where it horizontally pans through the crowd before Puss beats the giant. If you play it back frame by frame, Death is there watching and waiting for Puss to get crushed. 3. The Spanish at the end before he lets Puss go apparently translates to “Why did I have to go and play with my food?!” Meaning if he didn’t like to play around, Death would’ve had Puss done deasy in the beginning.

Other practices had this where Christianity had something similar, and some European countries placed coins on the eyes to keep the lids shut as they believed that if the eyes were open the dead would look for someone to take with them as company. What I really like though is that you have three levels of antagonists. You have Goldi and the Three Bears as the jokey antagonists, you’ve got Jack Horner as the jokey but also semi-serious antagonist and then you have Death as the straight up menacing, serious antagonist.

There are so many hidden things in this movie it will blow your mind. From secret messages in wanted posters to all the disturbing dark references in the map. To the amount of candles, glasses, and bell rings representing each life. Not to mention one of the best representations of death.
