But also, I feel like if Oda had wanted, he could totally have had Robin glide up on the explosion wind or something, since One Piece characters only take as much damage from any given attack as Oda feels like dishing out in the moment.

2024-11-09 22:25:28 +0000 UTCI think at this point Alicia should just watch One Pace for a significantly better viewing experience, in the manga Gladius's attacks are far quicker, that whole crap that nearly the entire episode takes only a few pages if im correct. She doesn't have the time to think about her next move and is entirely at the mercy of gladius but Toeis shitty pacing makes it seem like Robins having a 1 IQ moment.

2024-11-09 22:16:48 +0000 UTCNow pacing does exacerbate the issues in this moment, but i think you missed the key problems here. Yes Robin could use her wings and escape the explosion. However Robin wings have been shown consistently to be taxing on her. Meaning Robin would likely need to release Cavendish to use her wings, and then Hakuba would cut her to ribbons. And trying to run up the wall as she was doing would result in: a) leaving Cavendish to die. b)Gladius blowing the wall early. Since Robins character growth involved not leaving others to die while saving herself, part a) prevents her from making that choice. And part b) makes the choice pointless anyway. So basically, a series of events trapped Robin in that dangerous position, and forced her to take a leap of faith with Cavendish. Which is what this whole series is about. Trusting others to help us when our own skills aren't enough.

In the manga she a) had much less time to get out of the way and b) was possibly not nearly as close to the top to begin with because toei animated her running up the cliff for three episodes to pad for time. So when it came to doing what was a reasonable course of action in the manga the anime had her standing around for ten minutes like a complete lemming.

But more to the point, I do blame Toei pacing more for drawing out Gladius' attack so long as point was it supposed to be impending enough that she wouldn't have had the time to outrun it while on top of holding back Hakuba.
