2025-03-02 02:04:08 +0000 UTCI tried so, SO hard to like movie. It has beautiful animation and such a unique style, with witty dialouge to boot. But I cannot, for the life of me, look at that disgusting thing for more than a few minutes. I only made it about 35 minutes into this movie, because looking at that infant kaiju made me want to throw up. I have a weird sensory thing with babies, everything about them just absolutely disgusts me, but most of all, in every story where they are a central plot point, they are just a living obstacle. And you know what? Maybe I would have liked this movie if it treated that thing like an actual dragon baby, and not a human one. Hell, it even looks like a human baby, just with scales and a beak, instead of looking like the offspring of a kaiju. Maybe if the movie treated it like a creature, then maybe I could be endeered to it, but it didn't, so I'm not,and I cannot enjoy any more than the first 30ish minutes of the movie. Sorry, just needed to rant somewhere.

It's not a monster brawl flick but closer in tone to the 1954 original mixed with Evangelion. (and yes, Godzilla Minus One is also great)

2024-11-14 05:13:08 +0000 UTCFirst off if you didn't already know from what little you watched of Ultraman, Ultramen are aliens from "The Planet of Light" a place where they faced the death of their star, in order survive they created a perfect energy source that gave them light and energy. However the side effect was they became Ultramen and Kaiju came into being. In order to combat the Kaiju the Ultramen left their planet to protect others from the threat they inadvertently created. At first they killed the Kaiju. However Kaiju were just alien animals given insane power. The Ultramen began realizing that they were also victims in this. Current day Ultraman series tend to lean into the more altruistic take, this is basically what lead to this movie making Kaiju simply misunderstood wild animals that need to be contained to their natural habitat rather than mindless monsters that actively harm others with no reason.

Ultraman Zero (character) just had his 15th anniversary a while ago, his movie trilogy is a good starting point to the franchise as it explains the gist of some of the main concepts. Also Shin Ultraman if you want an og but modern take if u want to see also.
