Ok, to be fair, there were hints IN THE FLASH BACK that sabo survived. I admit, I wasn't paying much attention either on first watch and was just as surprised, but it's clear as day when you actually pay attention to what the people in the revolutionary army say during the luffy/ace/sabo flash back.

A major problem with this arc in the anime is that it is adapting a slower paced arc in the manga with even slower pacing which hurts it tremendously. Honestly, unlike other arcs, I can't really think of a good reason to recommend someone the anime adaptation of Dressrosa over the manga.

I am Glad you enjoyed this arc. For the most part. It DID suffer from some BAD pacing for a bit. Luckily the Pacing gets a Bit better and more consistent. But it will be a bit before it is pretty good. You have a few hundred episodes to go to get caught up. Just a little under 400. But do not worry. The next arc is Good. the one after is better. And after that. Well its what many refer to as Peak Piece. And after that only one Arc left. Also..... The Pain Piece is real. Cause as much as it has hurt you so far. Its only gonna get worse.

I'm glad you ended up liking Dressrosa by the end! It really has a lot of great moments and ideas, that are let down somewhat by the pacing and organization of events, but I like it lot more on rewatch than when it was airing weekly. And hey, it's all uphill from here. There are some truly excellent things coming in the next few arcs, story and anime production-wise! Oda's still got it all these years later.

More often than not, someone who calls themself a hero is not a hero. The title of hero is something that can only be given by others, not something that you can define for yourself, whether you want it or not. Luffy, as Lucy or otherwise, is a hero to so many, and his rejection of the title only speaks more to his own heroism. Fishman Island has The Human Straw Hat Luffy, along with a booming trade in straw hats, and Dressrosa has The Gladiator Lucy, and "LUCY Brand" Shirts and apparel.

This arc was definitely the closest i ever got to switching over to the manga, they really took what would've been a phenomenal arc and reduced it to one of the worst, the highs are high but god damn are the lows low, and i was one of the ones who binged it, not even waited! Granted, its not all the animes fault theres plenty of shit that could've and should've been cut imho, like i loved Pinks backstory but it was totally unnecessary and i still dispise Rebbeca as a character that exists, but overall Gear 4th and the fight against Doffy made the arc worth it
