Loved the reaction - very enjoyable movie that does have a few faults mentioned - exposition is too heavy, and a bit predictable. Still it's pretty unique and fans have been dying for a sequel movie. Looking forward to seeing alicia do Up one day, if that's one the list. That's a 10/10 for many people, but I'm curious to see if it also has similar flaws!

What I love most about this film is that throughout the entirety of it, they never once implied Baymax has anything above a low level AI. It is not capable of human emotions, it’s just a really well written medicare API of ChatGPT. So it’s a direct link between the brothers. Nothing Baymax does was out of his own wants or will because he doesn’t have those. It’s all Tadashi.

Of course Stan Lee is in it, it is technically a Marvel comics movie. Although the similarities to the comic are very small. The characters are very Disneyfied so they could check some boxes. (Wasabi was a middle-aged Japanese guy, Honey Lemon a S.H.I.E.L.D. spy, Gogo a mutant and Fred had Godzilla as his JoJo stand)

iirc the story behind San Fransokyo is that San Francisco was destroyed in a massive earthquake and Japan helped heavily with the rebuilding and recovery helping them build more earthquake safe buildings. So they renamed the city and its also why there is a lot of Japanese inspired architecture

Fair point, but I think workers would still be more efficient even under capitalism or not. The microbots are a hive-mind. Their autonomy is limited and the user would have to account for every single potential variable. This is already the case for factories and automation in other spaces wherr human workers are still needed to supervise. The reason why this is no longer the case in some companies is because the higherups simply decided that the supervision was unneeded. The microbots wouldn't, for example, allow 1 person to build buildings. They would put the stress and responsibility of building a building which was spread across hundreds of people, each hyper-focused on their portion of the task, onto just one.

1. San Fransokyo is meant to be a combination of San Francisco and Tokyo as you can tell. Its completely fictional. 2. The microbots are a dumb idea. They're just a robot labour force that can be micromanaged by 1 person. They would effectively eliminate the lower and middle-class. Additionally, the energy and resources needed to create this work force, as well as the maintenance and recharging thereafter would undo whatever advantage they once held. 3. Big Hero 6 was originally a Marvel property. The movie came about after Disney acquired Marvel, hence the property's resurrection.

To be fair, that wasn't caused by cutting corners. Krei Tech did make the portal fully and considering it was tax funded, likely didn't spare any expense. It was time and expectations that limited them and forced Krei to loosen their caution.

This movie was a big surprise for me. I had pretty low expectations going in and the general tone just charmed the pants off me. It turns out I am a sucker for techno-optimist settings in a lot of ways (See Also: Tomorrowland). I understand why there's no Big Hero 6 2, but it's sort of a shame.
