I seem to remember Sam complaining a few times up to that point about not having any good rope. His gift was left out because they didn't go with the razing of the shire so he didn't get his box of dirt and a seed that he got in the books so they gave him the rope he claimed from the boat instead.

All of the items that Galadriel gave them have special uses that are stated explicitly in the books but only implied/hinted at in the movies. The cloaks can disguise people as rock, and the cloak pins will never come undone accidentally, which is why Aragorn knew that Mary and Pippin were alive when he saw the pin on the ground.

2024-11-28 14:56:55 +0000 UTCSomething to remember from book lore: Gandalf is basically an angel sent to the world to help guide the various people to be free and to resist the oppression of Sauron. (Who is basically a fallen angel himself, although one MUCH stronger/higher ranking than Gandalf was.) There are limits set on Gandalf's power and he is charged with supporting/advising and guiding people instead of leading them because there's WAY too much history in the backstory and lore of the world where both the people (including elves, elves used to be a goddamn menace to everyone) and the demi-gods who run it (because the actual creator god is mysteriously missing) have gone crazy with power and it all ended badly. This is why he could return to life, he basically pushed the limits of wha he could do fighting the Balrog and legit died, but the sort of spiritual essence that was Gandalf got a recharge and sent back to finish his mission because it wasn't destroyed completely. And since Gandalf had actually been faithful to his mission, the demi-gods or maybe the actual creator god himself intervened and sent him back to finish it.

But the Lord of the Rings Trilogy feels so well done and cohesive because they filmed all three movies at the same time it was a huge gamble for New Line Cinema and Peter Jackson, but it was well worth they Pay-off. And we're never likely to see something like it ever again. They just released each movie a year apart to be sure they had time to finish all the effects in each movie. For the most part I think they were done filming by the time the first movie came out.

Yup, strait up angels. Sent to earth to observe and guide those who live on earth and each color wizard has their specialty. Brown is nature they are closest to wildlife and help keep the natural world in balance. Gray guide the people, help them fight the forces of darkness, White are the most powerful and directly fight the forces of darkness. Sauron is a demon who they were sent to help the people destroy. This makes Sarumon's betrayal so much more worse, he was literally put there on earth by the gods to fight Sauron. By killing the Bolrog Gandolf earned the title of White in the eyes of the gods, and was reborn so he can do the job Sarumon was supposed to.

The dead marshes were inspired by the rain filled craters in no man's land between opposing trenches where the dead could not be retrieved and were left in the water at the bottom of the craters. The scene where frodo faceplants into the bog, was filmed in a parking lot. It was blacktop then a tarp, and the edges were folded up to hold water. The dirt and plants were brought in, and a green screen background hid the parking lot. The water was only 6 to 8 inches deep, and he still fell face first without trying to brace with his hands. Peter Jackson talks about it in his voice-over on the extended dvds.

2024-11-27 00:01:14 +0000 UTCLotR as a D&D group: The group start ok, but then they change schedules and have to play on different days of the week on the same world: -frodo and sam go off alone and gather a third chaotic evil player -gandalf goes off alone sometimes after he has said he cant play anymore but cames back, and kills the balrog and comes back with 10 extra lvs and cool new gear and spends his time abandoning the rest of the party again every other day -merry and pippin are kidnapped and then they go on a spree with an army of talking trees and then they go off on their own to make more trouble -aragorn with his noble background gets lost sometimes or does charisma quests on his own -the only ones who stayed together were gimli and legolas, who are the fighter murderhobos who fight for the killcount in each battle -boromir's player had to leave the party, so the dm gave him an arrow-attracting belt from the witch elf, then he came back and used the same character sheet to make Faramir, but he missed some sessions so there's that

Fellowship of the Ring I attended with two best friends I'd been playing D&D with for years. Two Towers, I intended to attend with much more friends who I had made since the first movie came out. Unfortunately, a woman who sat directly in front of me had insanely smelly perfume I was allergic to, so I had to leave the movie coughing and choking and crying within 20 minutes... I got a refund and ultimately had to watch the movie alone in a later showing... and I fell asleep during the battle of helm's deep cause I was sad and alone and the sequence went too long... so I didn't REALLY see this movie until the extended dvd release...

Also the sayaman ones… all the movies, and the one with that swordsman with the ocarina and the giant gold monster. I LOVED THAT ONE. Couldn’t tell you its name though. But I also got LORD OF THE RINGS. And I was so ready to watch and we popped it in… and it was this one… the second episode. There were three tapes. THREE TAPES! All episode 2. I thought I got all 3 episodes but no it was just one long as hell show and I just never watched it. It sits in my closet.

Long story short they had his actor kick the helmet for so many cuts that he eventually just broke character from the pain and yelled in agony (poor footwear and it was a steel helmet). Because of how genuine the scream was, they kept it in because it worked so well with the scene.

Thank you for doing the Extended Alicia :) and to your thoughts at the beginning about quality, the entire Trilogy was filmed together at the same time in New Zealand. The movies were the cut individually for the release in 2001, 2002, 2003, so like the books, it's not so much a sequel as a part 2.
