SANJIIIII

Comments

Alicia, if you thought Sanji's backstory with Zeff was sad, you are gonna need to hydrate for his pre-Zeff backstory. Everything he went through in the first one was cotton candy compared to where he grew up.

Rinthewolf

Sanji has been there since East Blue, him choosing to not want the crew to help is just fucking stupid. It goes against the whole point of how their crew functions. Just Robin kidnapped 2.0.

Okoga

47:46 robin got nerfed

Fresh2000

"are we forgetting character traits?" Are you? She's an archeologist

WillGlacier

hoooo boi, here are the defensive replies to "info-gatherer robin should've had at LEAST bare-bones knowledge of who they are"

Yagi di Hoshi

Keep in mind that the Blues are *extremely* insulated from each other, and from the Grand Line. Devil Fruits are believed to be the things of myths and legends in the East Blue, and Robin was called a monster for having a fruit in the West Blue. To reach from one Blue to another means that a casual voyager must *either* be able to surmount a 10km tall sheer vertical mountain, both up and down, without the ability to bring their ship along - meaning that they have to have a ship waiting for them on the other side, *or* they must cross two calm belts and a random portion of the Grand Line, bearing in mind that East and South are separated by Paradise, and North and West are separated by The New World. The amount of people who casually travel from one island to another, even in the Blues, is fairly limited in its own right; the number of people who can casually travel between the Blues, on the other hand, is extremely miniscule, limited to only the WG and Marines, and extremely niche groups otherwise. It's literally easier to enter the Grand Line through Reverse Mountain than it is to get from one Blue to another, and Reverse Mountain is an actual death trap that most voyagers fear and fail to survive. Even if you survive, though, it's generally a one way trip for most people, because to get back into any of the Blues means that you either need to cross a Calm Belt, or you need to climb the Red Line, travel along it, then descend back down, again, without a ship. All this to say, it's astounding enough that Robin even knows the name Vinsmoke in the first place! Even if she doesn't know more than the name alone, the matters of the North Blue are well outside of her bubble of knowledge. This world doesn't have an internet, it only has one newspaper and some very limited and controlled broadcast capabilities. It's completely fair for Robin to have no knowledge of the Vinsmoke whatsoever; she's a child of the West Blue, and the furthest into Paradise that she travelled before joining the crew was to around Jaya. The Vinsmoke are a North Blue family. Robin doesn't know everything, and if anyone expects her to, then that's their own failure, both in severely overestimating her, and in underestimating the world in which she lives.

Moku

Can't pass every single history check, sometimes you roll a nat 1.

Cowboy

you gotta remember Alicia, the big Mum we have seen is after a lot of kids, i mean its the 35th daughter he is marrying

Orireth

yeah but she also has a habit of gathering other information, she said so herself at the beginning of water seven. says its a habit she picked up from her days on the run from the world government.

Draconic

“Hey, nerdy book lady, you know about all the important stuff right? Tell me who the Vinsmoke family are, you should know cause they’re important people.” —Mugiwara-no-Alicia December 2024

unknown organism

Maybe she just specializes in ancient history.

unknown organism

From the beginning Sanji has struggled with his self-worth. That’s why he always focuses on everyone else’s comfort and safety before his own, acts so recklessly in fights, and keeps trying to sacrifice himself all the time.

unknown organism

i really feel like sanji should know this wasnt going to work. he was part of the raid on the world governments primary judicial island to bring back someone who was an enemy on the previous island and had just joined at the end of it who had also said they didnt want anything to do with the straw hats anymore and look how that turned out.

Mirazatha

"I´m gonna do this myself" Bege said, as he summoned an army from his stomach. Real "Just you, me and my GUARDS!" vibes. I remember way, way back Alicia wondering about Sanjis backstory before Zeff, and I have been waiting for this ever since.

Ebofa

thats kind of like asking someone who likes medieval heraldry who the kardashians were

Lance Ivy

Nah this belongs to Usopp

Lewd Angel

47:36 oh...

Edward French

Whole Ckae Island is going to be rough on you

Austin Jenkins

Agreed. Maybe 'cause it's short, mostly flashbacks and expositon, and stuck between Dresrosa and the (imo) slow start of Whole Cake Island. So it's easy to overlook. But it's really fun.

DocteurNS

On the other hand, the Vinsmoke family ain't exactly small potatoes... With what we learn about them in the next couple dozen episodes, Robin should probably have been more aware of them. It's definitely kind of a cop-out to keep up the mystery and make the reveal more impactful.

DocteurNS

eh, I 70% agree with you, but Alicia is also right, its just kinda plot convenient that she "dont remeber" like she has heard them after all. But I think Oda was in a bit of tight spot with this plot line, like his only other option would be for Robin to "not be there" or something, but eh this really is a nitpick in the end of the day, we all forget things, as you say she is all about the 800+ year past, not the present.

One G. O A. T. One Dream

Luffy is only asleep during a story if it has to do with someone's past, it may sound bad but thats just who he is, he acts even without knowing. The first time this happened was when Nojiko was telling his crew about Nami's circumstances. Also Alicia, we are talking about one family, not the entire North Blue, it is ok for Robin to have a lapse in memory over one small piece of info among an entire sea of information.

Draconic

Robin: I think I have heard of them before but I can't remember. Translation: She knows, but Oda needs to build suspense XD.

leviathan_13

Robin is a damn archaeologist Alicia, who's entire field of study has been the Void Century.... do you REALLY think historians just have every family lineage memorized when it holds no importance to their current work? Also just bc she was with the Revolutionary army doesnt mean she would be involved with everything going on in every single sea lmao You want Robin to be this wonder woman of knowledge (which she is in many aspects) but expecting her to immediately remember a single powerful family of the possible dozens/hundreds in a single sea she has no actual business in is kinda unreasonable. If anything her instantly knowing such a specific fact would be the plot convenience imo.

Santi

Yeah I’m glad Robin isn’t a walking encyclopaedia of the world’s knowledge. One Piece would be terrible if that happened.

ichigo

"Sanji is the best character when he isnt being the worste character" ~Sanji Fan boys/girls

Cole Savoie

18:45 Noting this for later

vincent shiflett

It’s arguably the best post timeskip arc

Lukundra

Nami speaks to sanji who's inside bege Sanji: giantess nami's boobs!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Faroth

the thing about the Supernova's is for the most part they're all like legit pirates. Bege takes hostages like a real mafioso, Basil is manipulative and uses those weaker than him as literal cannon fodder, Kid is just overall a reckless dickhead. they are cruel and horrible people, but they are seen as Luffy's contemporaries and its a really good look into the fact that not only are there multiple kinds of pirate, but that Luffy, even though he is not a hero, compared to those on equal footing he's a goddamn saint.

ampersand

Oh boy, time for Sanji's Disney Princess arc! The thing about Zoro is that he's an emotionally stunted 21 year old. His best friend just left, possibly forever if things go badly. This is him being just as upset and worried as Nami with an added dose of hurt and filtered through his and Sanji's usual interactions.

Mel

To be fair to robin, shes smart but an archaeologist and mostly for the void century/poneglyphs, keeping up with every family name in every sea and who they were and if they are currently relevant, especially if its not navy big wigs or opposing pirates really isn’t something in her area, shes knowledgeable but this goes quite beyond her expected range of info

Night Shade929

There's actually a hint about his past if you go back to the episode where he say the book "nolan the Liar".

Chris White

XD Zoro's path is just to wherever swords, booze, and skilled fighters are.

Chris White

Luffy is such a breath of fresh air at times. He gives zero fucks about details, he just picks the most straight forward path between him and what he wants and then goes for it. Occasionally having to stop to redirect Zoro as he gets lost following that straight line.

Seraphem

Yeah, Robin's specialty is history related to the Void Century and the founding of the World Government. Not so much modern history.

Seraphem

next arc is my favorite post timeskip

PerfectYarn

OMG I never thought about it that way - you mentioned Luffy being weird and messy.... yeah but he had to handle his brother BY HIMSELF .... maybe that's why Sanji felt he had to handle his own family by himself, in addition to somehow getting the rest of the crew to stay on Zou with the Sunny and to wait for half the crew....

Silver Blade

I mean, Sanji didn’t ask to get involved with another emperor though. Not sure Zoro is really bringing fair lol

Lukundra

Exactly this. One Piece world is a massive place and Robin has spent most of her life chasing after information that is illegal to know, from an era that is named after the fact that nothing is known about it. Why would she know about a family that exists in one of the four quarters of the ocean for the most part? She had other things to worry about, like not being caught by the world government and what the people she working for were doing. Most of her adult life was spent on the Grand Line working with Crocodile. I am European and I couldn't tell you anything about most EU countries. I could if I studied them, but I have other interests.

I'm following way too many nsfw accounts to use a name here

Man it’s easy to forget how good Zou is. So much happens in so few episodes.

Cameron Sunken

I have known about this Sanji arc and have been waiting for it for a long time. I never knew when or how it was related to the main story (i.e., I never knew it was related to some dark secret in his past he thought would never resurface), nor how it's ultimately going to play out (other than obviously he'll rejoin the Straw Hats at some point) - I only simply knew it existed... and that it's the most serious we've ever seen Sanji.

jdoggivjc

I mean, call it convenient if you want, but the series all together would be way worse if Robin would be just a library on legs that knows every single thing about the world. Historians in our world have specialities too. Sure they might have heard of stuff, but the worlds too big to keep everything in mind.

Lucas_Oreki

It's fair for Robin to forget a random name of some family in the North blue, that has never been her focus and most of her education was likely done before she was 6 and then while she was on the run, she didn't really have time to learn everything and probably focused on the important subjects.

Speed1247

Who else looking forward to seeing our big fat cat who hates Mondays?

Calvin

Love the next arc and of course besides Luffy Sanji is my favorite crew member so I love him getting more attention

Icy

Oda really said "mannn I hate Sanji. I'mma give him some "character development" aka family drama. Yeahhh this is gonna be some heat!"
