I don't really see how we disagree.
By your description, a goal that "hinges on Krabs" is impossible compared to using his intellect for other means.
And in regards to Squidward, he has so many goals specifically because he keeps setting new ones.

I would disagree on both of your points. Plankton didn't set an impossible goal, but instead made his goal hinge on Krabs, and because he can't succeed without dragging Krabs down he can't win. He's a genius, and yet he's trying to make his food no one likes popular instead of inventing something... Or not selling Chum to Bikini Bottom, because they obviously don't like it.
It's not that Squidward keeps setting new goals, it's that he has too many goals from the jump and has an overinflated ego about things he thinks he's good at. Problem that people have with his depiction is even when he's not being actively an ass to people sometimes he gets punished for just being in the area.

I love how Alicia will spot a gaslighter and a manipulator in a heart beat, because of her, "I got trust issues." Except when it came to Plankton.

this is the power of SpongeBob, when even someone who hasn't even seen a single episode can feel nostalgia

Normally this sort of thing might be considered a spoiler, but so many episodes happen between here and then that either you're never gonna get to it or you'll completely forget me telling you this by the time you do get to it.

Hilariously, your comment on Bubble Bass being a movie critic isn't entirely wrong; Bubble Bass pretty much disappears from the series for the next 20 years or so after this episode and only became a reoccurring character again in newer SpongeBob media within the last 4 or 5 years, including a cameo appearance as an *even more* obnoxious/ basement dwelling parody of the Nostalgia Critic in the (somewhat controversial) spin-off series, "the Patrick Star Show" (which began only after the unfortunate premature death of series creator & marine biologist Stephen Hillenburg).

I noticed that a consistent theme across a lot of episodes is the power of optimism and conviction. Spongebob's child-like optimism in the face of failure, insults and other challenges is what lets him either succeed in the end, or continue enjoying the situation even when he doesn't. Plankton fails because he set out on an impossible goal and lets it derail his entire life. Squidward fails because he keeps setting new goals at the first sign of struggle.
Its not really a bootstrap mentality as much as "it is what it is, now back to having fun."

The torture joke has a double meaning: he’s saying it’s a cosmic joke that anything can come true if you believe hard enough, considering his life has been a failure.
