Straw Hat 771+772

AHHHHHH this is incredible

Comments

Three episodes in a row with Ohara flashbacks....god I fucking hate that shit.

Okoga

the ninja is definitely important because if the try to abbreviate without it they are the Pirate Mink Samurai Alliance or PMS Alliance

Ignis Flame

People in the Straw Hats speak over Luffy in almost every single arc, thats part of the bickering running bit that's been a thing in the series from the start. Signaling out Usopp here is an insanely clear bias, and an insanely weird take, especially because if we're taking a step back from the bits and looking at the behavior of the crew towards their captain objectively, Nami slapping Luffy up as much as she does is the single most disrespectful thing that occurs on the regular. In comparison speaking over him is almost inconsequential. But as i mentioned, this is part of the bit that occurs throughout the show, the crew assumes Luffy is being a thoughtless dumbass, they beat him up and correct him, and then he actually speaks his mind properly and they understand what he's talking about and agree. Signaling out Usopp here and calling it a 'betrayal' is hella dramatic and contextless, because if thats how you're treating it Nami, Chopper and Brook should've been cut from the crew a long time ago lol As for the Water 7 thing, (and this will be a tad long winded so apologies in advance if you don't care about it, but you did ask) Luffy was guilty in literally every single way and that is not a weird take, that is genuinely how the story was written? Usopp had been down in the gutter as the weakest crewmember who always gets the shit end of the stick, has felt inadequate to be among monsters like Luffy or Zoro, and didn't feel that he had anything useful to contribute to the team. Then Luffy, being the dumbass that he is, takes one of the most important elements of Usopps presence (the Merry, gifted to the Straw Hats by Kaya, Usopps friend), something Usopp got beat to near death for trying to preserve the money to fix, and then invalidates it completely by saying "yeah so we're just gonna get a new ship", doesn't explain himself or the situation at all, doesn't attempt to engage in any actual dialogue OR act as a captain for once in his life, and then is giga surprised when Usopp, rightfully, decides to leave the crew. He is, without argument, 100% at fault for Usopp leaving. If he acted as a true captain, as a friend that he claims to be, he would've handled that much better through like 2 sentences of dialogue, which is all it would've taken. You don't get to demand the respect of a captain when you've never acted as one, and the one time you do put your foot its a completely shit manner. The reason i said Luffy doesn't deserve the respect of a captain after W7's ending is because i had expected that arc to end with Luffy growing as a captain figure and promising to do better while Usopp apologizes and sees Luffy in a better (and closer) light as someone really worthy of respect. Instead, the writing gave us this really weird moment of Usopp going totally delulu and Zoro suddenly demanding Luffy be treated with respect when he absolutely did not earn it lol. Usopp had to apologize crying on his knees, AFTER risking his life to save Robin when he had already left the crew, while Luffy didn't have to do shit, and the story moved on EXACTLY as it did before Water 7 making the whole arc completely inconsequential to either of their developments. Yeah, the Straw Hats would disagree with me, because the Straw Hats haven't developed a smidge since then, and will continue in that manner til the end, which is both hilarious and insanely frustrating as a long time viewer. But again, this is just my personal opinion on it, half the community also sided with Luffy on that (which is still an insane take to me), but thats kinda the point of good writing, i just wish its conclusion was better.

I called Nami and Brook out too, if you cared to read that. They, at least, didn't speak for Luffy over such an important matter, however. Usopp did, and that's my issue. You can die on that hill, but every crew member except for Usopp joined with the understanding that Luffy would be their captain, and Usopp rejoined the crew with that understanding. Failing to respect him as captain when he hasn't betrayed them would speak more to their character than to his. I can guarantee you, however, that the Straw Hats would leave you to die on that hill alone. Even Usopp. _They_ respect him as the captain at the end of the day, even if Usopp betrayed that respect here. In what way was Luffy guilty over Usopp's mutiny in Water 7, by the way? That's a weird take.

Moku

One Thing I really love about how Luffy Treats Momo and often other kids. Its not just about being his Brother or seeing him as a Man. He knows or at least can tell. Momo does not have the Luxury of that kind of childhood anymore. Momo has people who follow him. An impossible Goal. And a deep set of fears and trauma he has to confront. Luffy is showing respect for not only Momo. But the Position Momo has. In his own way. It does not matter that Momo is a Child. Or hurt. If he is gonna Claim to be the Big boss. And act like it. He has to take it head on. And that is how luffy sees it.

Nunya Biz

Law Tries REALLY REALLY HARD. To Not be Luffy's Friend and act like he is just an Ally. No one Buys it. Specially the Crew. But he still tries.

Nunya Biz

Example #10000 of the OP community reading into things that don't exist, this was just an example of the crew bickering as they always do, Luffy does not place himself above them which is why they're allowed to do crap like this. Also, Brook and Nami literally slapped their captain up, way worse than Usopp, hell Nami does it on the regular, wheres the respect lost for them? You're overthinking it +A personal opinon, after the way Usopp got treated after his 'character arc' by the writing and how it made Luffy totally guiltless during Water 7's ending? I still die on the hill that Luffy does not deserve the respect of a captain

Lewd Angel

I love how Law is literally as close as you can get to being part of the crew without actually being a part of the crew xD

TheGodofCruelty

This was honestly the point where I lost a lot of respect for Usopp. He backslid hard, here. I don't mind him being afraid of strong and scary enemies, that's just in his nature. But the way that he treated Luffy during the negotiations with the Kozuki Clan was downright deplorable. Kinemon: "Will you help us?" Usopp: "Of course we will!" Luffy: "I refuse." Usopp: "How dare you Luffy! Don't worry Kinemon, just forget what he said, I'll set him straight!" Like, what? That's a huge backslide for his growth, and massively disrespectful to not only his captain, but to the entire crew. Brook and Nami aren't guiltless here, either, but Usopp went way too far with that interaction, and his determination to force Luffy to acquiesce to his, Usopp's, demands. If Luffy gave a hard "No." and ordered the crew back to the Sunny to carry on their merry way, and washed his hands of Momo and Kinemon entirely, that's well within his prerogative. While Usopp and the others can disagree all they want, they cannot make the decision for the crew as a whole, nor can they force Luffy's hand.

jojos is a little bit over rated imo. great in many ways but it's not close to one piece

marlanes

Jack Leroy Jenkins.

Ok

To be fair, Japan's isolationism is mostly a background thing for most of it's history.

BirthdayParty

I don't think he did? He knew there were strong people on board the ship, but I don't think he was expecting to fight Sengoku and Fujitora at the same time.

BirthdayParty

L take

Benedikt Spálovský

It's kind of tragic. Luffy's voice used to be just Luffy's voice to me. But since watching Dandadan, I'm really starting to ear the old woman in there. *sob*

DocteurNS

just gonna say it, jojo's aint even close. imo...

Andrew

Jack wasnt scared at the thought of seeing Sengoku and Fujitora or else he wouldnt have attacked the ships since he knew they were there, it was ptsd from the fight itself. naruto is kinda eh for me, it was good early on but then shippuden came out and the writing started going downhill and by the end of it, naruto's swing had more screentime then most of the characters. And I'm not even going to get into the dumpster fire that is boruto.

Draconic

Yeah, I didn't even remember he said that here, got me surprised

Lucas Prestes

anime exaggerates alot of gags from the manga

Happy

Just find it odd just cause she seems to know a fair bit about Japanese history aside.

ChaosSepher

I busted out laughing at the North Korea comparison when it's supposed to be a reference to a period of closed off Japan from the rest of the world, but I totally get that's the most relevant reference today

Rej

10:18 damn didn't know they revealed the guys silhouette here. (I'll let you guess who I mean by that)

Speed1247

I low key love how much she is already shitting on Jack the Jobber.

Seraphem

Law is the Goth GF we all deserve.

Wil DeYoung

She’s a vtubers now, they can’t math.

ichigo

Lil bro really failed to develop reading comprehension or just reading and didn’t understand what I said and yet managed to write more than I did based off this. Do better lil bro.

ichigo

@Kodyak ...and imagine if we had to do one voyage to reach the "end" and then redo all of it again, but this time looking for the stones :D. We wouldn't even be near the half-point lol.

leviathan_13

Almost 10 years later and we're still not near the end LMAO

Kodyak Combs

Lil bro really took three panels out of a 17-page chapter and made a big to-do about how Oda doesn't write serious scenes without comedy. Not only that, he picks 819, a chapter that has some incredible and very serious paneling that builds up the stakes for the next 200 chapters. 10/10 incredible take, no notes.

Manuel Müller

i think it might be more of a "Wano got Japan from 1640-1850 energy" with it being closed off to the rest of the world

Nick

35:20 Alicia used "Talk No Jutsu" it was super effective

Pixel King

to this day Im still confused about all that log pose thing ngl

Froze

Luffy: hey Jack, did you know that Fujitora likes me? Jack: *EXISTENTIAL DREAD SETS IN*

NickAsNickName

Alicia seems to know a fair bit about Japanese history. So it surprises me that when they talk about Wano being a closed off country she brings up North Korea and not the fact that is what Japan used to be like for a period of their history.

ChaosSepher

one of the few reactors that caught up what momo said about meeting roger lol

Username

9:25 ... just saying, not just ANY political assassination ... north korea dictator type assassination.... you made the connection between Wano and N korea earlier too

Silver Blade

Yeah, this is Oda telling us: "Originally we had to follow the logs all the way, but if I want to finish this story any time soon, I better introduce a short cut" XD

leviathan_13

oden is one of the greatest's anime fathers ever

dragon emperor ry

45:21 Pretty sure old Lady took Jacks balls and hanged them like pair of wet socks to dry... "You are 200 years too early to challenge me, little boy Jack."

Kampela

I hate how Oda writes certain scenes sometimes. Luffy saying no to Kinemon and talking to Momo would have felt more impactful if Ussop wasn’t screaming or attacking Luffy with Nami. He writes these characters to be so moronic and stupid in serious scenes and it’s like Oda is obsessed with trying to make any scene comedic.

ichigo

Alicia deadass said 19 XD
