My family doesn’t celebrate Christmas, but we do celebrate Eid. We took our niece to the toy store and had her pick out what she wanted, as long as it was reasonable budget-wise. She picked a dollhouse that looks like a castle and was affordable.

2025-04-17 14:00:29 +0000 UTCStop motion is my favorite form of animation. I was going to school for primarily digital animation, but nothing can really compare to stop motion. The fact that the objects you are seeing are real things they catch the light in a way that they are only now even getting close to replicating. If you want to see some really great modern stop motion I recommend the films made by Laika studios. My personal opinion is that their "Kubo and the Two Strings" is possibly one of the greatest stop motion films ever made. Coraline and Paranorman are also very good.

People believe Burton made Nightmare Before Christmas instead of merely making what it was based on, and Coraline was advertised as "from the director of Nightmare Before Christmas." Marketing knew exactly what they were doing with that lol

Because it is currently a potato. It is utterly adorable, but it doesn´t exactly have much in terms of desires or needs outside of sleeping and Mom. Still, it is its first Christmas, so I would like to give it something. I am maybe considering just giving the parents a gift card of some sort. Through I am very open to suggestions. I do find that the most difficult thing to keep in mind, and I expect it will continue to be the most difficult thing for quite a while, is space. Because the oldest kid already got a bunch of toy from family and such, and their space is limited. So I try to keep that in mind when I look for gifts.

That great singing voice isn't just for this role. In addition to his movie scores (which are great, and he deserves a lot of credit for the first modern superhero theme in Tim Burton's Batman) he was the front man for the band Oingo Boingo for some time, known for its weird songs. You may remember their song "Weird Science", a tie-in single for the sci-fi comedy of the same name. In addition to Weird Science I particularly recommend Oingo Boingo's tracks "Dead Man's Party", "Just Another Day", "Skin", and "No One Lives Forever"

They go wild for the stuff to the point that i had to get some myself so i can play with them. So yeah, they got some good cards that i got on black friday... the web shop had an actually good sale on them. (It is worth mentioning that i know how many responsible presents they get and this is what they will be talking about and going wild for on christmas eve(I am danish so we unpack presents on christmas eve)). The other set aren't really into that, but they are into making stuff themselves. So i gave them a set to make hard candies (Like bon bons). I know they do it at their school occasionally and that they really like it. So i am giving my brother an activity with his kids.
