Thor: The Dark World

:D LET'S GOOOO

Thor: The Dark World

Comments

Kurse (the beefed up Dark Elf) was done soooooooooo badly in this movie, Kurse in the comics is insane, he's incredibly powerful, even more than he is in this movie and he actually ends up turning good and becomes the guardian of the children of Asgard

Vegvisir92

I remember accidentally watching all the dark elf parts without any subtitles and I thought they were actually more interesting that way

VisceraSandwich

SAME THANK YOU! the treatment of Odin in this movie is so bad, It ruins the movie for me. I have heard an interview where the actor said the direction was a joke, the writing was a joke, so he hated every second.

Adam & Miranda

Oh so this is also a thing, you ask a few questions about shield, there was a tv show that had some continuity you are missing, basically they are really busy right now, you just haven't seen it yet.

Adam & Miranda

god Odin is phoning it in so hard, I don't think there was any character direction on set. Every good performance in this film is because the actor had to have it that way. I wonder if there was no accountability from top down on individual character performances. like if it was more important to get the shot, get the exposition, get the motion capture. just something I am thinking about, this film shows some cracks in the MCU that won't become visible almost a decade down the line lol.

Adam & Miranda

Agreed; good ingredients, bad sandwich

Billy Green

Very good observation on the relationship between Thor & Lady Sif, because in actual Norse mythology Sif is the wife of Thor (also, she was blonde & not a warrior at all). If you ever want to learn more about Norse mythology, I'd suggest watching/reacting to videos on the subjects by Overly Sarcastic Productions (OSP) and/or Jake Doubleyoo on YT.

Serpentking789

There are bits and pieces of this movie that were really spectacular (Mostly Thor and Loki interactions). As a whole I think it deserves its spot near the bottom of the Marvel tier list, but... it isn't without redeeming moments.

Rainet

What’s the count on 2 for 2?

Nightmareman99

Wait, as in the 9th doctor? I didn’t even realize that was Christopher eccleston

Andrew birds

on the london weather thing: The whole fucking island is cursed by druids, it cant be anything natural

Marceline

it sucks because Christopher Eccleston is such a good actor yet was given very little to work with.....he'd have been much better as Dr Doom or Strucker or something

Vegvisir92

I'm kinda on Odin side here although there could be better plans Thors is definitely worse than Odins Its better to take them on by making them come to asgard so they can fight on their own terms rather than sending the literal weapon of mass destruction right to them and only having Thor fight when we don't know if he can even win

Karatsuki

I think this film is over hated. The villain is a bit boring but I really enjoyed most of the rest of it, especially Loki

Andrew birds

You’re wrong about one thing, in the scene in the prison with the illusion of their mom visiting Loki, he didn’t create that, she did, she projected herself there, she’s the one that taught him how to do it, like how we saw him do in Avengers

Ben Gross

You know that tom's spiderman is in like 3 main mcu movies

DarkenedBlade1

Didn’t ask you

Ben Yokes

No? Thats not apart of the mcu I doubt she’s doing that and she really shouldn’t since those are standalone and repetitive films that only connect to No Way Home

Ben Yokes

Hehehe. Surprised to hear Alicia not cry over Frigga. I don't cry normally, but I shed one tear hehe. Meanwhile I wouldn't be surprised to see Alicia cry over a chicken with less screen time depending on the day.

Tiladesu

lol was playing Valheim as you mentioned it XD

Andrew

I can't wait for Alicia to get to Winter Soldier, Guardians, Ultron, and Antman. Such great films!

marko cruz

I agree with what you said regarding not feeling especially sad about Frigga, but I did feel something when we saw Heimdall's, and then Loki's reactions to her death. Tom Hiddleston is such a great pick to play Loki, he really brings the character to life in a way that makes you actually like him as a villain, and his range of emotions is impressive. Every scene that included Loki in this movie actually draws you in, because the reach of his charisma goes beyond the movie itself. You can see the conflict in his emotions, the way he's looking for a place in the world, to find a purpose, and he only knows how to look for the thing he was promised by the lies of Odin. What's interesting is, if the movies take some parts from Norse mythology, the way Odin treats Loki could be explained by the fact that Odin was told by an oracle that his fate is to die during Ragnarök in battle against Fenrir, Loki's son, and as he wants to avoid that he tries to prevent Loki from having the opportunity to have that son, not realizing that his actions are what's turning Loki against Asgaard in the first place.

KeterLordFR

i think you forgot captain america winter soldier that came out before age of ultron pretty sure

Capt.J0HN

The next films in phase two are Guardians of the Galaxy. Then Avengers: Age of Ultron and finally antman

IcyDUD3

If she does, I SINCERELY hope she starts with Tobey's Spider-Man.

Fireball Sensei

Anyone know if she'll do the spiderman movies (tom holland's)? Because I know they're not really needed for the main story

DarkenedBlade1

Fun Mythology fact: in the actual Norse myths, a giant once stole Thor's hammer and demanded Sif's hand in marriage to return it. Loki had to disguise Thor as Sif in order to get the hammer back.

largo778 .

I honestly never understood the hate for this movie. Is it as good as the other Thor movies? Maybe not. Is it still fun? Sure, I think so! Glad that Alicia gave this one an honest shake! (Only five minutes in so far, rewatching it makes me remember how much I enjoyed it in theaters)

Joey245

Also if I'm mistaken, this was the first instance when the Tesseract was confirmed as an Infinity Stone. So that one scene not only introduces the concepts, but confirms we've already seen 2 stones.

hemahemahema

I assume they meant that not all of the shows have importance to the movies. Can't say anything on that front myself though, as I haven't seen anything after Endgame.

Ace of Blades

This is the only MCU film I’ve watched that I’ve actively hated.

Eliteguard99

Yeah, the intention of that scene was to show it was Frigga who taught Loki his illusions, and to establish how she would save Jane later. As Thor said Loki had her tricks.

hemahemahema

I'd say its better then I remember, but honestly I forgot almost everything, but the loki "betrayal" part.

Speed1247

Cheese

DSMikeNW

I remember liking this movie more the first time I watched it, but going back to it I can really see it’s flaws. I would daresay I like it less than Thor 3 now, and I have a strong dislike for Thor 3 that I’ll go into when we get there. Loki is definitely the saving grace of this one. Anyway, Comic Trivia time: Malekith the Accused is a Dark Elf Villain, but in the comics he looks more traditionally elven and his face is half-blue and half-black. His role in the comics was like a more evil and capricious version of Loki, up until he had his neck broken by Angrim/Kurse (the big armored Dark Elf) after he realized he was being tricked by Malekith. Malekith later got over being dead (cuz Comics/Magic) and became Thor’s #1 Enemy, going so far as to unite several of Asgard’s enemies and leading an invasion of Earth. He is now trapped in Hel being tormented by visions of his younger self living a full, happy life. The Collector would mean nothing to someone unfamiliar with or new to comics. In the comics, he is one of the oldest living beings in the universe and he and several others like him known as the Elders of the Universe. In the comics, they were the keepers of the Infinity Gems before Thanos came along. In the MCU the only other Elder we meet (to my knowledge) is The Grandmaster. And the big stone monster from the first part of the movie is a Kronan aka Stone Man from Saturn that were the antagonists in Thor’s first appearance.

BakaSama

Worst mcu film is a toughie. I think, though I respect its ambition and visuals, Eternals story structure literally didn’t work as a film on an executions level. That’s probably my pick. If we’re talking marvel overall, my votes for Fan[4]stic. That one’s dreadful.

PrivateXimmy

Right alot ifbscenes in the last two thanos movies were confusing to me cause i genuinely dont remember any of this movie

Charlie baker

Nah its the worst mcu movie alongside love and thunder

Charlie baker

Its the worst mcu movie easily

Charlie baker

Its this period

Charlie baker

Wild incredibly wild dark worlds like a 2 imo compared to hulk especially and its not even half of the movie iron man 3 is. Its a dumpster

Charlie baker

So i honestly forget this one exists with hiw awful it is

Charlie baker

?

Marideth McVey

Hm? not at all to what

Blizzky

But it was on the schedule

Cream_That_Corn

Not all

Cream_That_Corn

We can only dream

Cream_That_Corn

The only MCU film besides Guardians 1 and 2 that I watched before Infinity War. Funniest level of context to have.

AltName7

Oh you are confused about the Infinity Stones? Don't worry, you'll get there.

RylerRay

Yeah, getting some experience in film and theatre, you start to see where the cracks show. Eccleston's performance was just fine, but it's clear he wasn't given the direction that the character needed, and the screentime/scenes/framing that would have made Malekith compelling in any way.

Bologna Amputation

Funny you should mention that Thor would have ended up with Sif, as the mythological Thor was happily married to Sif.

Spacefrog

I absolutely need her to watch the show it's so good

EthanEverhart

So, is a Bethesda Game? T pose with clipping between levels\worlds

Faroth

And Loki has a ton of kids, Loki was the Zeus of norse mythology

Faroth

The scene in the Prison with loki talking with her mother, that was actually her. Remember the 1st Thor movie when Loki appeared on one of SHIELD cell where they have Thor but was just an ilusión, more like a 'projection' of Loki to talk with Thor... He learned that from his mom. She, as the elf said, is a witch, just as Loki is a magician\wizard trickster. His mom projected herself in the dungeon cell to talk with him, just as she projected Jane on the room to trick the elves

Faroth

wait... i IS loki?

Siarnaq89

i am %100 late to the party... but i cant be the only one whos brain went to 'bastich you know WHO' when she responded to "whos Richard?"

Siarnaq89

Loki can only love himself ...x)

laizer

remember your analysis of odin when you watch ragnarok

Greywalker

I thought you liked Iron Man 3 more than 2. It seemed like the ending kinda saved it, but I guess your mind changed

Memento Forever

To my understanding, it's implied that the reason Odin's behavior at the start of this movie differs so much from his previous appearance is because of the dark magic he used to send Thor to Earth in Avengers. It makes sense that something like that would be possible, but I really wish they would've addressed this in the movie so it wouldn't seem like Odin was just be acting like a jerk for no reason.

Enigma7108

Will you be watching the Loki TV show once you get to that point in the MCU story?

RussellSD

Can’t wait for Alicia to eventually watch Iron Giant, Ratatouille, Megamind, Croods, Inside out, and all the good ones

Emperor Moist

Little does Alicia know Loki is better than a movie. He has his own entire show (takes place just after endgame) same with a lot of other Marvel shows, all of them have important content to future movies after endgame

Blizzky

I would love to see her reaction upon learning Loki has a whole TV series dedicated to him.

KatoBen

Les goooo, love it when you just genuinely do whatever you feel like doing even if it’s not on schedule

Emperor Moist

I do not remember seeing the scene where Loki transforms into a guard after his "death"

Shank Mugen

I will always assert this is my favorite of the Thor movies. I dont care what anybody says.

Simulacrae

Alicia’s Marvel Ratings Iron Man - 8/10 Avengers - 8/10 Captain America First Avenger - 8/10 Iron Man 2 - 7.5/10 Thor - 7/10 Thor The Dark World- 6/10 Iron Man 3 - 5/10 Incredible Hulk - 4/10

Broford

It reminds me of iron man 1. Except it has a lot more comedy and drama and allows Tony to grow and not rely on his suit.

Daisy Azuras

as someone who lives in England yeah that is normal weather

Andhy thomas

I do not understand why you like Iron Man 3.

E. H.

I don't know which is worse, this or hulk.

Gildarts1#fan

Iron man 3 is such a good movie compared to hulk and Thor 2 and iron man 2. I don’t understand why she doesn’t like iron man 3.

Daisy Azuras

In actual Norse mythology, Sif is Thor's wife.

SouthHill

Well the good news is that the rest of the movies from here on out are good to great (yes that includes Avengers Age of Ultron).

Anime Tone

So the thing about Odin, is that while he wants to protect his people, when the universe is at stake he reverts to a more warmonger stance and anything and everything for victory, because anything less means the end of everything. I do agree the dialogue could have been stronger when it came to him though.

Okoga

im pretty sure she has somebody telling her the order when its relevant, like how she didnt know when iron man 3 was until after avengers 1 was through and it was no longer a spoiler that tony survived

Ellerian

You don't talk about Fight Club.

Jimmy H Lam

If you're still unsure about the movie order, next is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, then Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Ant-Man to finish out Phase 2.

Matt Clark

The warrior three a cast so expendable, you didn't even realize they replaced one of the actors!

Robert C. Dona

Dark Elf ship design philosophy is just T-pose to assert dominance.

Wil DeYoung

if thor wrecks your car is that vandlizum, accdent , or and act of god on the insurance

Lance Ivy

True, I’m just gassing up cap 2 tho.

PrivateXimmy

My personal favorite part about Thor: The Dark World, is that it is the worst of the movies, so it only goes up from here.

Dekkarr

its always easier for people to just blame the actor rather than the people behind the scenes since the actor has the face you can see to blame

Vegvisir92

Thor: The Dark World marks the point where Marvel started to shift away from making movies and towards making a franchise. This movie exists solely to introduce another Infinite Stone and the plot and characters all fall flat because they don't matter. I don't think it's too bad a film (because Tom Hiddleston as Loki can carry anything and make it look easy), and some pillars of the MCU have consistently put out top-quality work, but Thor 2 is where the cracks begin to show.

Rx1867

As someone who loved Eccleston's run in Doctor Who this movie makes me sad

Jonathan

It's understandable that you are annoyed at people telling their opinions about a movie you haven't watched yet. It's like they are trying to condition you to either like or dislike it. it's fun to share opinions AFTER you watch something, but it's not cool to do that before. E.g., I don't think this movie was bad, but it was forgettable. I get the feeling that it was built on a lot of cool visual pieces, but the other parts are lacking. Loki carried the whole thing.

leviathan_13

pushes glasses ..... actually she is a vanir who married oden so she is a vannahime woman not an asgaurd woman .

Lance Ivy

Yeah... the issues you had are pretty much the reasons this tends to be ranked as the lowest of the MCU movies for quite some time. And yeah, Loki remains the best part of anything he's in.

Seraphem

Thor and Sif had very few scenes, but I always thought they have much better chemistry than him and Jane. That one always felt like one of those obligatory superhero romances.

Starchaser

the real problem is that this movie's like twenty minutes too long. Also the elven language stuff being really flat but that's less of the runtime.

Grei Glace

A bad marvel movie is still usually a good movie.

Immeasurably Me

Winter Soldier is next and then the James Gunn movie. And after those, Avengers 2

Crazyone

Damn. This was nowhere near as boring as I remembered. Granted, the last time I saw this was in theaters, but yeah. This was a lot better than I remembered.

Gai Valentine

This is my second watch of this, and here are my thoughts: 1. The final battle is a Scooby Doo hallway door chase scene. This is a compliment and a good thing. 2. There were some extremely good character moments in this movie, but it definitely could have stood to have another 15 minutes for development, especially on Odin's part. 3. Good God Malekith was a boring antagonist, I agree with you there, Alicia. I don't know why they looked at the Endling Lord of the Dark Elves and decided milquetoast henchman energy was what they were gonna go with.

Bologna Amputation

This movie hurts sometimes honestly for various reasons

GrimPitbull

Odin doesn't view humans as equal to Asgardians, but knows Asgardians aren't inherently more valuable than humans. So when it comes to treating a person like a person, he believes in doing the right thing. When it comes to his son being in a relationship with one of *those people,* however, it's a different story.

DRedd

I wonder sometimes if Alicia would like the show. She likes fun and complex characters it seems, The Doctor fits that bill perfectly, a good amount of companions too.

The Lazy Gamer

It always hurts to hear people shit on Eccleston's performance as Malekith, he hated being in that makeup and he wasn't given much to work with. He'll always be a top Doctor though.

The Lazy Gamer

yay more marvel time!

KuroOberon

Love the reactions!Comment❤

NoPointToTry

Well it is inconsistent that he seeks to guard and protect all nine of the realms yet for some reason views humans as beneath him. "She is mortal. Illness is their defining trait." "She does not belong in Asgard any more than a goat belongs at the banquet table." For whatever reason, Odin seems to view humans as animals rather than people which I never got that impression from in the first movie, though that could just be me. Either that or he just really hates Jane but that still doesn't match the wise, compassionate Odin from the first movie.

Brantley Fleming

Dark world is definitely not horrible it's just mid af. Honestly my main issue with it is it's pretty forgettable which is the worst thing a movie can be.

Jonathan Canfield

Oooh I just know the Next Captain America Movie, Thor: Ragnarok, the Infinity War movies and the Loki series will absolutely BREAK her. Good luck girl😂😂

SayoAqua

Bro it ain't that serious, its a good movie, just much weaker then the rest which are peak, ya ain't gotta be so dramatic

Lewd Angel

54:00 A bunch of mask-clad dipshits running dick-first into enemy fire.

Liesmith

I forget why but Natalie Portman wasn't on set to film the last kissing scene so that was actually Chris Hemsworth wife he kissed

Ronix

I will say Christopher Eccleston is a lot better in the show doctor who he was done dirty in this movie

Donald Weese

it is definitely one of the ones that gets widely claimed to be ass, but me personally, while it certainly isn't the best, it has its moments, and I can rewatch it which is more than I can say for a lot of movies.

Derekloffin

Yeah, me too! One of the best marvel movies ever

Denji

Yeah, this one is objectively one of the weaker pre-EG Marvel films, even weaker than the Hulk film in my opinion. It's not bad, but it's just... not very memorable or exciting. It's just a necessary watch to set up for the future films, particularly Loki's role in the story.

Jyxxe

GotG is my favorite Marvel trilogy so I'm really hyped for that

Cogfather

Girl you're in for a treat. The next Marvel movie, Captain America: Winter Soldier is widely considered one of the best, if not THE best, Marvel movie. Its SOO good. Im so excited for you to experience it. As to Thor Dark World, its fine. Doesn't bother me, it does its thing and its fine. Im not nearly as down on some Marvel movies as others. If I had a good time the movie it doing something right. 7/10, C+ moving right along.

Lee Aguera

I'm so hyped for Winter Soldier!

Lee Aguera

Saying this is worth slogging through to get to Cap 2 is a testament to how good that film is, Because god this one sucks. Publically known for having gone through rewrite hell and several directors, even being remotely palatable is somewhat of a compliment. Yikes.

PrivateXimmy

Ah yes - the movie everyone agreed was pretty bad. In hindsight & after watching most of the other Marvel stuff, it's a solid 5/10 meh. Not bad, not good. It is a movie & things happened.

Mojo

The Show has only had one season that could be argued as bad and that’s really just because it starts off as a monster of the week which I think gets too much of a bad rap because that direction helps us get attach to the characters and makes when the show gets into the serious storylines much more impactful

Justin Garlington

Keep watching more marvel!!

Tyler Tatom

Just to a point, then they kinda just separate and never acknowledge each other again. Which to be fair it was to the show's benefit because the worst and most boring seasons are the ones connected to the MCU

Christian MH

Not that bad of a movie. Slightly above average maybe.

Julio 🤔

A bit i disagree on, i don't think Odin was written the way you're saying? You're saying hes been off this entire movie but like, he was exactly the same in the beginning as he was in the 1st movie? He cared for his people, he pushed Thor to secure peace and the respect of the people so he'd be ready to be King, the only snag he had is he didn't want his son to be distracted by someone from another realm when he's supposed to be guarding nine of them, especially someone with a very short lifespan. I think you can very clearly see his emotional shift, he didn't have a breakdown when Frigga died because him going uncaring and hateful IS his breakdown. Not to mention, hes at the end of his life, he's been pushing Thor so hard because its nearly his time so its no surprise hes very easily turned from his compassion towards his people

Lewd Angel

both of those films are great!!

Callum Sheridan

Next marvel film reaction will be peak

Denji

I like all of the thor movies but i prefer he 1st and the 3rd. The first is a great asshole to hero story and the 3rd is hilarious actiony campy goodness

Commisar_Pickle

33:02 Alicia blew her nose and released the aether. Our universe is doomed! Doooooooooomed!

Trevor Appel

Although tbh Winter Soldier is the beginning of that Peak.

Sam Brown

“I have no concept of what’s after (Winter Soldier) tho” What comes after is Peak.

Sam Brown

I mean I was feeling the Marvel delay, although I didn’t say anything because I still like the other content

Ranginald Vagel

This has some of my favorite music in Marvel.

Jason

Suddenly I want Alicia to react to Glass Onion's Edward Norton.

Felix Rojas V.

Winter soldier is indeed so good.

Felix Rojas V.

I like the first two Thor movies. I think it goes down the goofier the character gets.

Lee Aguera

Funny you should say that about Sif and how she could have married Thor if Jane wasn't a thing. In Norse myth she did become Thor's wife. Although she was also a giantess and Goddess of fertility.

YukoValis

I haven't seen this movie for a minute. It's crazy to think this was one of the worst Marvel movies for a long time when it isn't even that bad compared to some of the absolute garbage in recent years. This movie's biggest problem is that the main villain is incredibly boring. My god, it's just a constant monotone voice. At least let him be theatrical if he is going to be one-dimensional. So this movie has many good things, but also a lot of just meh. Can't wait for Captain America Winter Soldier next. That movie is fucking awesome.

Nik Jovan

Yeah the last Ant man movie took the throne of worst marvel movie by far

Accel

I knew there was a reason this was my 3rd least favorite marvel movie... It's one of the like 3-5 I never rewatch. Definitely at least kind of important for the overall "Marvel plot" but not nearly as well made/entertaining as others in the franchise

Girthquake23

I miss when this was the worst a marvel movie got. Cuz frankly its not that bad.

Commisar_Pickle

Just letting you know that Agents of Shield the Tv Series, connects to events form this movie and the next one along with a few others further down the line

Justin Garlington

Also glad I have so much content to enjoy after my last final exam 👏🏽

mykanike

Can safely say this is the MCU’s largest low point for some time. Glad you’re past it now

mykanike

I'm gonna be honest here. I completely forgot this movie existed.

Ricardo Romero

I really want to like this movie tbh but I just don’t

Big Fuze

Ah yes, Thor the Dark World. A lot of actors didn't exactly have a great time with this one. Christopher Eccleston was pretty pissed that all the Dark Elves' back stories got cut so he just played the leader of a faction that wanted "ooooh spooky darkness". Natalie Portman was really excited to work with director Patty Jenkins, was not happy that Jenkins left over creative difference and still had to finish the movie due to the contract. Idris Elda said about the reshoots for this movie "This is torture, man. I don’t want to do this. My agent said: ‘You have to, it’s part of the deal.’" which frankly does not leave much room for interpretation. Chris Hemsworth later admitted playing Thor as he did here was like having handcuffs on, and "dying". Anthony Hopkins was more of a decisive meh towards the whole thing, admitting that he originally signed up for Kenneth Branagh - who of course didn't direct this movie. So yeah, not a lot of passion for this movie among the cast.

hemahemahema

after this marvel really found their footing, rather watch paint dry than Thor 2, but after this is pure heat, truly the golden era of the MCU

Photon Pnk

27:00 Orange Fanta is a fake ho. Real Fanta is YELLOW!

N00B

Yep, this one ain't as good as the others, but like everyone been saying, straight HEAT after this.

Tony2Dirty

Marvel fans are VERY opinionated on the movies, I have not watched one where I didn't enjoy the majority of it, they arent all amazing, but when your average is an 8-10 there is bound to be a 5 or 6 here and there. I am loving this journey and hope to see the end of it.

James T Williams

The Dark World is a little poopy in comparison to the other classics of this era of Marvel but it is nowhere near the amount of shit of later films in the franchise. This one is at least still kinda fun.

Patrick Waldeck

It's nothing but gas for the next like 10 movies

Jacob

Iron man 3 and Thor 2 were what i liked to call MCUs DC moment lol Trying a little to hard but they aren't without merit, just imperfect.

Tsu Aloe Vera

Oh joyous day. : ) this was a good one. But let me tell you the next one is one of my favorite non-Avengers movies. I am excite.

YukoValis

Sometimes, you need to fall to rise back up. What follows now is an era of peak.

N00B

Hey Alicia fun fact the part at the end when they kiss they switched out Natalie Portman with Chris Hemsworth's wife for that scene

TheKingFin

FINALLY BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG. CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BANGERS!!!!!!

Omer Durrani

MORE MARVEL!!
