Stevonnie was the first animated character I saw who is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. Steven Universe really was one of the first shows, let alone animated show, that really felt like a big step forward in media in terms of showcasing identity and gender in ways that haven't necessarily been done before. Or at least, not to my knowledge. I honestly think that because of that, it holds a very special place in a lot of people's hearts. Definitely one of the many reasons why people feel so much love and adoration for this show.
