That got...dark. Oh boy. Thoughts?

⭐ FULL Reaction: Steven Universe S2 Ep 8

The gem shard scenario is so messed up. Very dark topic to cover. Especially if you view fusion as a close relationship. Forcing a fusion is just.. eck. As for the gem SHARDS, (shattered gems), they’re bits and pieces of who they once were, and forcing those arms, legs, heads, brains, whatever to be mashed together like that must be TERRIFYING if you’re a gem. 2 dark topics to handle at once. On a “kids” show. Thanks Rebecca xD

*reposted because it was mysteriously removed? I don't believe it's very spoilery or offensive in the least? Is it too long a post?

There is a lot of connotation to what we're to interpret what Fusion is. Some people seem to believe that it stands for an act more intimate than just a relationship and while, yes that can be something that is involved in the makings of a fusion, it doesn’t apply to all fusions after all we have to remember that Steven and Connie have fused and maybe that's not really appropriate to think about for kids their age to be doing... I myself have taken it as exactly what Garnet said at the end of this episode and you'll see it stands kind of true for other fusions we see as the show goes on. A proper gem fusion is the embodiment of the relationship of those involved in creating the fusion. It's kind of a combination what each individual admires or views the other as combined with what they are themselves into one. For example you could say that Ruby sees Sapphire for her beauty, grace and wisdom while Sapphire admires Ruby for her strength, bravery and passion. Combine their points of view of each other with what they actually are; Ruby was something like a soldier and Sapphire was known for her clairvoyance and wisdom and the two parts are strengthened beyond what they were as individuals. Look at Garnet she's beautiful and strong while still being agile as well as both wise and passionate and so much more than what they were as their individuals. Their fusion represents the aspect of their relationship that is love. We’ve seen in both Alexandrite and Malachite than when the individuals making up the fusion are in disagreement the personalities of the fusers are still present rather than an entirely new one being created. You can apply this to Stevonnie, Steven and Connie. Their strong friendship and budding romantic relationship is made up of Steven’s admiration for Connie’s beauty and brilliance along with Connie’s admiration of Steven’s free spirit and confidence. Their fusion happened on an episode that was supposed to reference a kids first middle school dance. “It’s an experience and just remember to have fun you two!” In my mind, while their fusion is strong I don’t believe it’s fully realized as both kids as well as their relationship both have growing to do and as the series and their relationship goes on you could say their fusion as Stevonnie gets stronger. In the future we'll see fusions that represent other facets (gem pun) of what a relationship is. Such as how two people's admiration of their strong bond as friends or how another two so strongly view each other in different ways as role models create the ULTIMATE ROLE MODEL. This is just my spin on it though…. Sorry for the long post.

Man, the gem shard story-line sure was some Dr. Mengele kind of horror. I visited that place and … I'm now aborting my train of thought because I want to sleep tonight. Anyway, I don't think the show gets any more … visceral than in this arc, though it does keep on doing rather intense allegories to real world issues.

I see it as season is it's own version of dark. But Crewniverse tend to pace the mood really well giving light hearted and funny moments even surrounded by the dark plot elements.
