Also Peridot has had possibly the most complete arc in terms character developement. From an apathetic villain who was out to destroy the world to someone who feels empathy and genuinely cares for Steven to the point where there needs to be no reason for them to spend time together other then just spend time together :3

It's about Steven figuring his own stuff out and healing. If you take the time to listen to it the full original theme song for Steven Universe, which was written by Steven, has a moment where each of the Gems and Steven sing what they are fighting for and his individual lyric is "I will fight to be everything that everybody wants me to be when I'm grown" This whole time he's been trying to be what every one else wants without ever really knowing who or what he wants to be for himself.
