In Rayla's defense they have been on a nonstop road trip for the past week, that is a lot of stuff to go through your head at one time (especially for kids). Plus, if you think about it, they have only known each other for that amount of time so the fact they have gotten to this point is a miracle.

Viren's breakdown at the mirror clearly had double meaning with what he said at the mirror but also at himself. I'm not saying he's a good guy, obviously, but, think about it like this, he has meant to protect and save his best friend and king and has all along wanted to do what is best for his kingdom and people even if it means taking the throne so he can have the control to make decisions for the Kingdom himself and to do that he's done a great deal of questionable and terrible things and at this point he's basically failed or he's just out of reach of his goal at every turn. That would definitely give a guy issues. Everything he's done while morally wrong has all been born of good intentions however, like I've said before, power ultimately corrupts. It corrupts the man and his intentions and as you'll see with the series going forward, Viren's goal is changed by the power he gains or seeks.

Lucas Scribner

Viren's mirror breakdown is made even clear if you recall Claudia's comment about how her reflection in the same mirror seem to put her on "notice" when she off offhandedly threatened it in book 1.
