Time for Alabasta! Hello future people, we're heading to one of the most highly regarded arcs in One Piece. The Straw Hats are up against all the forces of Baroque Works, so lets find out a little bit about them. But first, we have to hear Kat sing the theme song! ♫ The Strawhats sail the Grand Line, ♪ ♪ adventure is what they seek, ♫ ♫ but what do we look forward to? ♪ ♪ It's the Fun Fact of the Week! ♫ D: Oda-sensei! There was a music question in my finals! And on the question was about "Bach". Apparently, historians label Bach as a "Baroque" artist... So maybe Igaram (who looks like Bach) + Baroque style = "Baroque Works!!" So... Am I right? O: Yup. That's right. It's going to be extremely difficult for me to explain this one. Baroque was a style of art, literature and music prevalent in 17th century Europe. In my own very simple description, it was absurdly extravagant. Excessively ostentatious. Therefore, I made the Baroque Works a collection of characters that are each over-the-top in their own ways. So there you go! Oda's inspiration for the whole organization and especially the agents. Speaking of the agents, let's talk about Mr. 2 Bon Clay Sama. And by talk about him, I mean, let's just say he is great. What a great guy. Making friendship like a whirlwind. I'll have some fun facts about him next time he shows up, don't you worry. Speaking of not worrying; Don't worry about the new opening. It won't be for a while, you are 23 episodes from the new opening on Episode 116. There is a bit of a spoiler there. There is a pseudo spoiler in it. But that won't be resolved until episode 130! So that would be 14 episodes of not being able to see the opening! I'll leave it up to you really. It'll probably be hard to avoid it for so long, so might as well watch it I say. Besides, if no one made a big deal about it, you probably wouldn't even realize there is a spoiler there. Or maybe not, you're pretty perceptive after all. Speaking of perceptive (x2 TRANSITION COMBO!) Did you notice when Usopp said how he got to the top of Drum Mountain a few episodes ago, he said he battled a giant bird to get there. And on last episode... Hm. Isn't that a funny coincidence? Welp, probably just another coincidence from Oda. That's it for this week, lets land on Alabasta already! Until next time! PS: Episode 93 is half filler, episode 98 and 99 will be filler, and episode 101 is mostly filler, while episode 102 is filler. 93 is worth watching as the filler is just mixed in, and you should see the end of episode 101 for the only important canon thing from the episode, but the rest is super fillery. Your call on whether to watch them as they come up.

Fun fact: Ace is Dubbed by my celebrity man crush Travis 'Ren Faire’ Willingham: voice of roy mustang, thor, grog strongjaw, and a number of other voices. Also, rewatching episode 91 gave me a theory for the end of one piece: I think just before they find the One Piece we are going to get an extended Gol D. Roger backstory. We've gotten bits and pieces of Roger’s trail along the grand line (from the bar Gold Roger to laboon’s doctor to doctor kareha) and I wouldn’t put it past Oda to give us the mother of all payoffs just to follow it up with an even bigger mother of all payoffs.

Having recently finished the first half of one piece as well as enduring all of the emotional trauma that comes with such an achievement I think this arc is an opportune time to talk about the stuff I like. The Alabasta arc is one of, if not, my favorite arc in the entire series. It is basically the story telling equivalent of 3D chess. Crocodile is my favorite villain in the entire series so far (though I do have my eye on a certain feather clad fancy boy, so I will keep you updated). Crocodile is basically all the best parts of a Bond villain with none of the flaws and stuffed inside a fantasy setting. He is the total package. Miss All Sunday is currently tied with Luffy as my favorite character in the entire series. First she has a number of characteristics that are similar to my favorite fictional character of all time, Mara Jade (while at the same time feeling like her own distinct thing). Second, her VA in the dub is easily one of the best in the series. Third, she is what we call a scalpel in a world of sledgehammers. Most Shonen have powers that can be described as wielding a sledgehammer(some are more tactical sledge hammers than others but are sledgehammers nonetheless) but every now and then you get a character that relies on finesse and finesse alone to achieve their goals. I could go on and on but for now I think I can let her speak for herself and return to my ramblings at a later date.
