(The stuff inside the Asteriks is from last week’s comments that I thought you needed to know. If you already read it, you can skip it) * Yeah, this series was not written by Reki, but he did supervise the project. This one was written by Keiichi Sigsawa. From what i've seen, the two of them became good friends through this. There are other spin-offs written by other people, but they aren't as popular (And one is a manga) As for where this fits in the timeline, (Ignoring the fact that EP 1 happens after EP 2) episode 2 starts more or less 2 months after the end of the Fairy Dance arc. The end of episode 2 happens almost a week after Asuna takes Yuuki to see her old house in Mother's Rosario. * (I will be referencing this show as AGGO) Anyway, in the novels Pito actually names the sniper and we do find out it was Sinon. Another reference that isn’t included in the anime is that the soldiers in the beginning either work or were just somehow related to Kikuoka. I don’t think it’s really anything important, but it’s just a fun reference. As far as how cannon it is, Reki has never said it wasn’t cannon, so that most likely means it is. Plus, one of the characters in AGGO (My favorite one in AGGO in fact) is referenced in the Ordinal Scale movie by Dyne, so take that as you will. If you like this series tackling insecurities and stuff, then Accel World is definitely going to be something. That series is like Reki was trying to find the best way to make characters suffer while keeping it as realistic as possible (Something I argue he’s pretty good at). I mean even the main character is described as a short, overweight boy, so I’m sure you can figure out where that’s going. Although I have seen people say that the MC’s character design is one of the reason they didn’t like AW. You mentioned the video you were working on and that reminded me that a lot went down regarding SAO and the people hating on it. By that I mean that people basically banded together to hate on it more. It was kind of accidental that people collectively hated on SAO, but it did help to bring out the bad takes people had on the show. I’ll provide two of my favorite ones. “Sword Art Online was one of the worst animes. EVER. I don’t want to hear it. WHY MAKE HIM GO BACK IN THERE FOR A GIRL HE DIDN’T KNOW???? It made no sense considering he almost died in the real world.” I’m pretty sure that one goes against the whole point of the show, but still. “my condolences to everyone who like Kirito from SAO Some illnesses are terminal” That one got people riled up, while others agreed with them. And of course once people started calling them out for it, they tried playing it off as a joke. Although I don’t know how funny it is to say someone has a terminal illness for liking a character, but alright. One thing about AGGO regarding the hate is that for some reason the anime youtubers that hated on SAO said that this one was not only good, but even better than the original (By that they meant season 1 and 2). I completely disagree for many reasons, but it seemed that the only reason that they actually liked this one wasn’t only because they believed it was good, but mostly because it wasn’t written by Reki. I don’t really understand why Reki gets so much hate as either. If you see his interviews, he seems like a really nice guy, if not a little bit awkward. The anime youtubers also claimed that AGGO actually had a main character with struggles and personality unlike Kirito. I do remember people saying that AGGO actually had stakes unlike the main series, which I don’t think I have to go into detail why that is wrong. (That’s actually an argument I hear a lot, that SAO has no stakes apart from the Aincrad arc.) I’ll leave it with that for now, but in better news, the hate for SAO seems to have gone down a bit when it comes to Progressive. There were only a few people basically saying “SAO bad” but otherwise even people who don’t like the show seem to be interested. In the topic of progressive, the movie has been confirmed to be releasing in Fall. My only worry is that they are adding an anime-only character, and certain events are happening differently from the novels (Including the fact that they will be making it from Asuna’s point of view, but that isn’t an issue with the first arc of progressive since Kirito’s side was basically EP 2 of S1). I’m hoping Reki is the one writing the new stuff for the movie cause at least that way he can make it work somehow (Like how he did with Eiji). Let me tell you, the moment that the new trailer dropped and everyone saw the new character, the SAO community became divided with this either being a good or bad thing. Last thing, the earlier SAO novels, mainly the ones covering the Aincrad arc, aren’t the most well written things you’ll see (Not to say that they are badly written either). Even compared to the first AW that released at the same time, you can tell that SAO was much closer published in the way it was originally written in 2001. Another thing about that, the Aincrad arc is written completely out of order. The first volume starts with Kirito on floor 74 before jumping to the whole Klein stuff from episode 1. After Kirito leaves Klein, the story jumps to the part where Kirito finds a ragout rabbit and asks Asuna to cook it, then the story play out like the anime (Skipping the Yui stuff). It isn’t until Vol. 2 where it goes back to show when he meets Lisbeth, Silica, Yui, and the Moonlit Black Cats. Then it isn’t until Vol. 8 where you get the murder mystery from the anime and the first day in SAO that the anime skipped. The next Aincrad stuff doesn’t happen until Vol. 22, but since it’s only in japan, I don’t know much about it apart from the fact it shows when Kirito and Asuna got married in Aincrad. Not so fun fact: Tomorrow (March 29th) is the in-universe day that Conno Yuuki passed away.

2021-03-29 03:57:10 +0000 UTCwhether they are canon are not i cannot say, they have their own light novels, but Reki is not the author on these. Note: You missed a fairly important post credit scene on episode 4. May want to go back and watch that before moving on to EP5. Also you asked for the Progressive trailer a few weeks back, well it dropped yesterday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2vco0PEKU4
