⭐Dragon Ball Z Episodes 34-35: Watch Along & Analysis

Hahaha, Kat, if you guys want to watch Dragonball Evolution (the bad film adaptation) you can absolutely do that at any time. That movie (such as it is) only goes as far as revealing Goku is an alien (despite only involving Piccolo) and yeah, basically it can't spoil anything for you. Not that it matters anyway, because the adaptation is so loose with interpreting every detail that it would genuinely mystify anyone who saw it first to turn around and watch the animated series afterwards. The Last Airbender movie managed to be almost TOO faithful at times while missing critical details and turning this vibrant world into a dull, awkward, boring mess. Dragonball Evolution is a lot livelier, but almost goes out of its way to get even the broad strokes wrong. It's like the had a synopsis that needed to be accurate, and after fulfilling that did whatever they wanted on the budget of a romcom.

Welp, I was gonna make another segment of Lost In Translation, but it looks like others have already done that (good job team). I guess the only thing I can add is the source of Goku's reason, his Saiyan instincts. Remember how Goku hit his head as a baby, making him lose his aggressive nature? That part may be true, but his warrior instincts were still intact, which is why he loves fighting so much. Some fans go so far as to call it an addiction. Make no mistake though, Goku is a kind person and will always defend his friends whenever they are threatened. But, in the back of his head, he gets very excited to fight the bad guy. If you think about it, Goku probably spared Piccolo's life because he gave him such a good fight and it motivated him to become stronger, though not wanting to kill Kami in the process is also part of the reason. Now in Vegeta's case, Lucas pretty much hit the nail on the head. The only thing I can add to his point is that Goku does agree that it's wrong to let Vegeta go. But he so much stronger than Goku and so really wants to be able to surpass him and beat him on his own. It's in his blood to want that.

We're totally going to read/review the manga on Patreon. Really excited for that personally!

Yup. Goku is merciful no doubt, but in this particular instance it had VERY LITTLE to do with showing mercy. These are the kinds of changes that really do change the character completely in my opinion. It destroys Toriyama’s original intentions with Goku. I really hope they go back and at least watch it in Japanese in their own time, or take the time to read the manga.

If you're looking for a series about food. Toriko, is a series about a Gourmet chef that fights monsters and turns them into food. It's in the same vein of shows as Dragon Ball Z and One Piece to the point in fact that all 3 shows have a cross over event episode!!!!! The absolutely terrible live action Dragon Ball film is very very very loosely based on the Piccolo saga so, you're safe to watch it. This is one of the few moments that the original dub of the series sort of mischaracterized Goku. In actuality, Goku spared Vegeta because he felt that Vegeta's death was a waste. He wanted Vegeta to have the chance to recover so they could fight again, when they were both stronger, it's kind of his thing that when he can, he will always spare his opponents so he can fight them again and push himself further. There is more to say on the whole mercy on villains thing but, that would be spoilers from the Super manga that haven't even been animated yet. I will say that you guys pretty much have the right idea though.
