I believe, SAOP are meant to be read before at least the 22nd volume for it to make more sense - haven't read the 21st yet, so can't say about that. Anyway, publishing order is probably the best order to follow in that case, all I could say is that just by looking at 22nd cover you could see that SAOP already updated the lore of SAO at this point)
p.s. my point is - it's already hard to separate SAOP from the main series by now

And finally, we’ve reached the end.
There’s still a few more anime stuff you need to watch regarding these series, which I’ve mentioned before, and there’s quite a lot of reading for both as well.
As a quick recap, this is what you’re missing for anime stuff:
Sword Art Online: Extra Edition
Sword Art Offline: 1,2, and Ordinal Scale
Accel World OVA: 1,2, and 3
Accel World: Infinite Burst (Mostly recap movie that you shouldn’t watch until you catch up with the novels. At least volume 25, which also happens to be the latest volume in Japan)
Novel wise there are the main volumes for both series:
Sword Art Online: Vol 1-22 (1-24 in Japan)
Accel World: Vol 1-24 (1-25 in Japan)
For all the side and short stories, again, I’ll be making that list if you want to check it out. I haven’t finished writing all of them down mainly cause of my overnight job, but I do have a lot of the PDF’s for some of the lesser known stuff that were never officially published in English because of the way they were made, or the Material Editions that were only recently collected into one book in Japan, but again, has no English release.
One of these stories that is part of the Material Editions is called “The Progressors” (not to be confused with the “Progressive” series). They showed part of the beginning in the anime, for some reason, but it cut out all the important parts of it. Basically, they cut the whole story including the part where Kirito and Asuna have a duel. Anyway, what makes this one interesting is that it’s actually a manga that I think Reki himself drew for SAO. When it was officially published however, they let a manga artist remake the story with better art.
Anyway, when it comes to Haru actually deciding to kill Nomi, I feel like he had already recognized that Brain Burst was causing Nomi more harm than anything else. Of course, Haru probably felt some sort of resentment for what Nomi did to them, but more than anything, he wanted to free him from what was causing him pain.
I know that Саша Одинец already mentioned this, but if you notice, Kuroyukihime used Vorpal Strike. That is Kirito signature move that he himself claims is tied to his Black Swordsman persona (as mentioned in the Alicization novels). The question here would be how she even knows this move, and thankfully there is an answer to that. I won’t be saying it, but I do feel like the answer only brings more questions than anything else. I really can’t wait till you get to a certain part in the novels when so many things are revealed.
Near the end of the last episode they show a few characters that never appeared in the anime. When I first watched it I just thought they were random characters, but now that I’ve read the novels I can say I was entirely wrong. One of them you’ve already met, but only the brain burst version of them. I doubt you’d ever be able to link the person to the avatar though, at least I know I never expected that. Still, I can’t wait till you meet all of them.
And with that, we come to a close to the bigger anime projects around Reki’s work (Until the other SAO stuff that is). I would try to think of a fun fact to end everything here but I’m writing this like three minutes before I have to leave for work so I’ll leave it at that.

After finishing watching it, I can openly say - my interest in reading this book *just accelerated*. I avoided the series for a bit, because I knew, knew I'll like it and will have to do a full dive in the series even more than I was afraid I might not like it as much as I hoped after SAO. And I needed my time for whole lot of other things. But now, that I discovered this place, it came to a perfect moment to try Accel World together. And I enjoyed it a lot. I realize, that building up any strong theories at this moment is way too early, because there are so many novels with info to sort it out and check the differences with anime, but at the same time, given info is enough to raise some hope-theories. And the one continuously mentioned in reaction about KiritoXAsuna child - I simultaneously love it, want to support it, and at the same time conflicted that I kind of don't want it to be true on a certain lvl? (Well, that's Reki, these feelings are expected and that is one more point to make the theory stronger xD) Because I want to believe that Kirito and Asuna would raise someone with less mental scars, I guess? If we try to decipher her scars, and at the same time apply the theory that she's Kirito and Asuna's child, then wouldn't these scars at least on some lvl be related to the parents? Dual wielding, is in a way - what she's doing too. It's hard for me to express all of the thoughts exactly in English, but overall my idea is - given how much her form resembles her connection to Kirito and Asuna, for us a viewers, could be the connection of the scars to them both in the same magnitude. Or maybe I'm overthinking it, and it's just that she went through similar inner struggles as Asuna and Kirito did, which wouldn't surprise me. *And still going through. Spoilers for the episode 23, just in case anyone reads it before watching - the Vorpal Strike? *Someone's signature move?* And that after suddenly arriving on the horse? Reki, why are you doing this to us :D
A little comment on the discussion of the previous week's episodes (since I did it all in one watch it's easier not to separate the comments) - it's actually SAO that came first, and then AW. It's just that creation of AW allowed SAO to be published. That is also the reason I voted for SAO LN to be first :) Can't wait for you to try the novels, it's gonna be a lot of fun :D Though picking up the order in which to read Reki's novels and stories isn't exactly easy, I hope someone will have help with that as novels would be read, since even trying SAO alone wasn't easy road. Even given the fact that my first read through wasn't in english, and the amount of translated material was even smaller. Personally I'll start reading AW after I'll reread all SAO and SAOP)
And since it's the last episode - thanks for the journey :D New adventure awaits)
