Monster design opinion
Added 2025-01-08 21:35:02 +0000 UTCDidn't want to spoil this... but I figure it'd be a good idea to get opinions on it before doing more stuff on it. So for this game thing the main baddies are insect based. Idk though
I was thinking of insects because they seem like a good archetype for baddies. But I want them to be sexy... is this caked up bug hot or not?
I want to have 1 other monster in the game but haven't touched that yet. These huge ass'd bugs (the insectrix) are more like the weak things that can be dispatched in 3 hits. But there's a lot more of them!
So the 2nd monster should be something bigger, takes maybe 6 hits... but moves more slowly, attacks are slower, maybe has a projectile attack, they show up in smaller numbers. Doesn't have to be insect-like though.
Suggest some ideas for monster designs please! And/or share your favorite monsters!

I wouldn't mind making it work with html5 (so you could play it in browser on a phone with touch controls), maaaybe I can do that (I've been making it with PC in mind and unfortunately the html5 runtime in Game Maker is way more picky about things and you end up debugging some insanely mysterious bugs and it's very frustrating...) Like I was trying to make with html5 in mind but it's so annoying (then there's cases where something in html5 works but makes the game crash on pc >_>) and I figure (for now) it's best to focus on one platform.

2025-01-09 17:18:05 +0000 UTCI quite like the "caked up" version, brings to mind the Honey Pot Ants. Has a lot of personality that suits your overall style. Monster design/Biology is actually 1 of my biggest and longest lasting passion. I could probably go all day about hypothetical creature designs and weird creatures you could base something around, hard to narrow anything down because of that, Would depend a lot on the overall vibe you're going for. Based on the vaguely desert looking area my suggestion for a 2nd enemy would be a Solifugae, A desert dwelling arachnid that naturally has quite a large abdomen. Have a quite a lot of games I could recommend: Dragon Quest, Last Armageddon, ChocoVaders, Shadow Hearts, Telefang, MonsterSeed, Linda^3, Pikmin, Nanatsu No Kaze. Honestly would be here quite awhile. Feel free to reach out over DMs if you wish for more of my input.

And don't worry about buying, it'll be available to patrons first (then publicly but a free thing, it'll be demo-length rather than a full sized game)

2025-01-09 03:26:49 +0000 UTCI don't really know much about game design but in my limited experience, a predatory species could be introduced. Like a reptile or avian that "prey" on the insects. Maybe a harpie of sorts. Another opinion could be a evolution of the bugs. Like a queen/king bee kind of deal where they're bigger and strong with the downside of being much slower. These are just a few of the ideas off the top of my head. Nonetheless, great work as always. I just finished building pc so whenever the game is ready I'll be first in line ready to buy and play it. ^<^
