Gyra's Game build
Added 2025-01-27 22:36:29 +0000 UTCI figure it's about time to share something playable. This is where I'll be putting the playable builds of the game.

I decided to lean more into an rpg direction and less in a Zelda direction (mainly because... eh, I'm not good at puzzle design. So it'll be more focused on punching monsters). There's experience, a very simple leveling system for now, some magic... still only one monster type for now. I haven't done any modeling on a second monster type (but I do have an object programmed with the behavior I'd want the second monster to have kinda done)
The monster behavior is also wip! They use the same stuff too many times in a row since it's all entirely based on RNG to decide what they do (vs. taking into account the last action the monster did) But lots of the main gameplay stuff is there.
I'll keep working on this but like... a lot less! It seems like a truly good playable thing that isn't full of incomplete/half-working things will take longer than I was thinking (I haven't had a chance to record dialogue for the cutscenes, been talking with a couple people about monster design, I need to actually model the other characters that would appear in FMVs which would take awhile...) so by posting this I feel like I can like, make this less of a priority and focus on animation stuff. BUT I'm going to chip away it... this is probably the most enjoyable game project I've worked on in a very long time. It's just like, eh... I've spent way too much time on this and not lewd animations.
Let me know what you think! How does it feel to move around and attack stuff, is it even fun at all, that kind of thing.
EDIT: Current build can use gamepad, Xbox-like controllers work, PS4-like controllers should work now, keyboard option available (Switch controllers won't work though).
Comments
I kept meaning to respond, my bad! I followed, I'd love to see the progress on it! There's not much to the story atm though (besides like... stuff happens and you fight things and there'd be lewd fmv lol)

2025-02-08 11:47:07 +0000 UTCThank you!! I thought about having shopping carts react to monsters and might give it a shot, idk if it'd be too chaotic (or like... make the shopping carts get too janky) but it might not be as bad as I imagine it would be.

2025-02-07 09:08:57 +0000 UTCfinally got a chance to play this! - base layer gameplay loop feels very engaging. attacking and footsies feels responsive. leveling was most fun in the northeast debug room with the swarms of bugs and the fire spell :3 - shopping carts are fun to bash around. wondering if they could be used to slam into enemies?

2025-01-31 21:44:33 +0000 UTCIts not my characters, if you know OJMann on Twitter it's a whole sexy platformer Adventure I'm going to be building with Godot and Blender. You'll play as the Yogo character and be able to interact with his OCs in all kinds of fun or intimate ways. That's where I'm getting the idea from you about FMVs, cause I want the only interactive part about the sex to happen before it happens, like choosing to alter genitalia or who tops/bottoms rather than pressing a "continue" button or a "cum" button, y'know. The best part, it's not just a story about sex, but also has an objective to defeat a villain causing chaos to the city! My Twitter is din0_t4ku if you wanted to see progress updates on it at all. Anyway, I still am more interested in your game, I wanna learn more about Gyras, I wanna see him/the bugs shooting semen or getting their cheeks creamed, I wanna learn more about the story, and most important, PLAY it lol Oh yeah, I meant to ask, is that Mountain Dew game available btw?

2025-01-29 18:47:11 +0000 UTCAh yeah makes sense, I think I see where they'd connect now. I didn't realize you could actually explore the dungeon room until now, because I walked the wrong direction the first time and got trapped out of bounds haha. It's really cool that there's some map stuff hidden behind the scenes, although my favorite bonus content has to be the hot dog pickup

2025-01-29 18:31:23 +0000 UTCHmm, maybe... it could be interesting doing some commentary or some devlog thing (unfortunately I suck at that kind of thing though so... who knows) Yeah basically you'd enter an invisible box that would change the interaction button to be like "inspect" or "talk" and it would play the fmv. I do have a semi-interactive animation system I *might* bring over into this thing but I think the most interaction it would have is going between different angles/loops of it. You mentioned your own game though, I'd love to check it out if you want to share it!

2025-01-29 11:31:57 +0000 UTCThanks for playing! Yeeeah sorry... you can't go anywhere else yet (the top left one is the entrance to the "dungeon" that has almost nothing in it atm) unless you use the room selector (that's if you want to see some janky stuff that was using to test things!) (the blue to white thing was an error, I forgot to reset the drawing color on the map to be white for non-monster objects)

2025-01-29 05:03:48 +0000 UTCIs there a way to reach the second pink marker on the map? I assumed the bottom right one was to mark the cart return objective, but I can't figure out if the one in the top left does anything. I tried returning all of the carts, but the last one seems to be blocked by an invisible wall south of the car. It seems like its map marker changed from blue back to white after killing all the bugs and returning the other carts though, which is suspicious 🤔

2025-01-28 17:31:38 +0000 UTCSee how this works, I didn't know what button would be best to hold down for using magic, left control felt kinda okay for it though. https://velocirection.itch.io/gyras-game-wip Though probably for keyboard I'd just use the keys above ZXC and V to assign magic to so you don't have to hold a key down for that!

2025-01-28 08:11:17 +0000 UTCI seeee....well hopefully there will be some keyboard controls as well in due time, looking forward to seeing where the project goes in due time on and off again

2025-01-28 05:03:39 +0000 UTCThanks for this! Switch controllers might not be support in game maker when targeting PC... From the manual it says "On, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch targets, gamepads are fully supported, but remapping of controller constants is not permitted." Other people were asking about in game maker forum posts and it seems like it can detect something is plugged into gamepad 4 but not actually do anything with it. So... I don't know if I can do anything about that. I saw something about if the game is running through steam the switch controller inputs can be remapped to keyboard input but I'm probably not putting the game on steam.

2025-01-28 04:41:38 +0000 UTCI love listening to game dev processes and interviews, if you ever did a commentary on it I'd love to listen to more things about it on YouTube, almost like a podcast. I personally would love to see more development into this game, but I mean, the majority probably wants to see more alien/dino animations 😔. About the naughty interactions, I can't wait to see what Gyras will do with the friendly enemy you run into! ❤️ The use of FMV is probably the safer route, kinda like when you first encounter the bug, because I know having to set up Vectors and specific animations would probably be really time consuming. I might try and do that system in my own game as well. But at least we get to see Dragons and Bugs get glazed!! 😳 Is it going to be like walking up to the enemy and getting the prompt to play the cutscene?

2025-01-28 03:41:15 +0000 UTCI tried using a Nintendo Switch Controller, it seems to register as Gampad Number 4...but then seems to be repeatedly pressing all the buttons at once...not sure if this an issue thats GMS side or on my end though...

2025-01-28 03:14:01 +0000 UTCwas definitely a fun little demo, controls felt good and i eagerly await the next build to see what all you do with it

2025-01-28 02:18:08 +0000 UTCAudio in the video is muffled because I was recording from the build in game maker (for some reason the audio is muffled is that way but playing the executable the sounds are how they're supposed to be). However I do need to make some adjustments to volume for sounds (and make it so different types of sound volumes can be adjusted by the player eventually when there's a menu for that) And yes! There will be an interaction with one on that map (it'd be in the zone in the lower left corner of the map) in the form a lewd FMV (but haven't done anything on that yet)

2025-01-28 02:17:30 +0000 UTCHey that's a good idea... I was thinking about having a heavy attack on another button. That could be it...!

2025-01-28 01:31:54 +0000 UTCIf you don't mind, give it another try! I've updated the download and added some stuff to check if it's working or not. https://velocirection.itch.io/gyras-game-wip

2025-01-28 01:30:03 +0000 UTCI looked into this and yeah my bad... I naively assumed it would work without checking for controllers lol but luckily I saw someone else having a similar problem. I figured "we're in the 2020s, game engines should be able to just know whether there's a gamepad that can be used" but apparently not. I'm working on fixing it!

2025-01-28 00:56:48 +0000 UTCI would assume you need a xbox gamepad, because my PS4 one doesn't work at all lmao

2025-01-27 22:54:59 +0000 UTCDesktop only file, when I get my laptop set up at the new apartment I'll check it out. Gyras voice lines are a little garbled, like it's kinda quiet compared to the SFX going on, maybe that's just his natural tone though? At least that's what I'm getting from the WIP trailer Will there be any intimate or friendly interactions with these bug enemies in the future?
