Wait. Now that I think about it, Toonami aired on 2 networks, right? I keep forgetting about Kids WB. Maybe it was censored there?

No, it wasn't Ocean. I saw it on toonami in the funi dub. Me and my cousins were freaking out at what just happened. Not at the brutality but at the fact chi-chi actualy died. The nightmare scene I was refering too was also in the funi dub, though that scene just had Chi-Chi get attacked off screen and the she just fell and looked dead. I didn't even know about the neck snapping until the reaction here.

No, I never watched the Ocean Dub apart from the Saiyan Saga and early Namek, before they started the Funimation dub. The Chichi scene was not there.

I've seen that scene on Toonami when newly dubbed episodes were coming out. Were you thinking about the Nightmare scene in the Android saga? Because that part was censored.

In the original run of this show on Toonami, they actually cut the scene where Buu takes out Chichi. I guess someone thought it was too brutally sad for a younger audience. I'd heard of the scene, but literally hadn't seen it until this year, because frankly "Buu turns Chichi into an egg and stomps on her" sounded so clownish I had no interest in seeing it. ...But damn, if it isn't SOLD by Goten's reaction to the whole thing. Just knowing that as far as he understands, he has no family left apart from Ox King. That's pretty devastating. I actually think I recall it being confusing after they cut this scene, and then show Goten suddenly super-motivated in the chamber compared to Trunks. With the proper context, it's pretty powerful to see him finally get serious. I still think you guys are really harsh on Goten and Trunks. I agree that Chichi and Bulma were of no help here, but these are still eight year olds. Goku was twelve or thirteen when we met him in Dragonball. And they lived in a time of peace following the end of Cell. The most apt comparison would be against Gohan, the four year old who Piccolo DEMOLISHED over the course of a year to hone him into a stone-cold fighter. Sure, Gohan eventually became something awesome, but basically at the cost of his entire childhood. Future Trunks might have experienced more tragedy, but Gohan lived through darkness and Trauma to easily rival Steven Universe. If we were talking about who had the most mental scars in therapy later in life, Gohan is pretty tops. DBZ downplays that angle hard, but you know in any realistic scenario that he'd have SERIOUS issues from a lifetime in the company of suffering, loss and death. ...But is that really fair to Goten and Trunks, to nag them for not understanding because they've never experienced such hardship? To hit them for never having been so traumatized and growing up with semi-normal childhoods? Of COURSE they have this idealized notion of being a Z Fighter, this Shonen superhero, complete with all the classic tropes... All they've heard before this are stories. Nobody emotionally prepared them for this, and they've had like... what, a week to saddle up and adjust? This saga does not cover a very large span of time. All the same, for all their posturing, Gotenks is here, now, and actually ready. Let's watch the fireworks...

Right, thank you, must have forgotten that part lol

Tien was in this arc in the manga. It just didn't show how they dodged Buu's attack, only that they survived.

It's funny to want the whole planet to go in a show but that's the type of show Dragon Ball is lol. But here we are, Buu is impatient. By the way, the stuff with Tien is only in the show, as he wasn't in this arc in the manga. By the way when the OG Dragon Ball started Goku was I believe 12 but different time to be fair. Gohan was 4 when he first appeared.
