Additional comment, Sasuke's resemblance to Izuna is more thematic. And speaking of Izuna, like you said, Madara lost his immediate family and his brother's presumably dying words were, "We can't trust the Senju". Also, I do believe you can read Hashirama and Madara as a love story. Especially in the West we have very narrow views on love but if you take a look at the Greek view on love, different kinds, all of them powerful, it opens things up a lot. It actually helped me sort a lot of things out

P.S. - While Ninja Villages, especially the great five, consist of Shinobi Clans from the Warring States era you're seeing now, not everyone is. Lee, Sakura, & TenTen don't really come from generations of Ninja Families. No kekkei genkai like Uchiha/Hyuuga or secret skills like Nara or Akimichi. It's pretty much, they're parents got together and they decided they wanted to be ninja.
