And now y'all have reached one of, if not my absolute favorite episodes in the entirety of Naruto/Shippuden. The higher end animation used to communicate the intensity of feeling in lieu of dialogue as only animation can, and the absolutely insane level of understanding and communication between father and son is tremendous - I think that scene alone communicates more than just the emotions of loss, but the way to DEAL with loss; to experience sorrow, accept and acknowledge it, and more than that, make the conscious choice to continue to live beyond it. Shikamaru's father has learned that lesson himself, and seeks to share that intimate knowledge with his son, knowing that grief is not the end, instead it is the beginning.
