Age check: Kakashi is promoted to Jonin at the age of 12, and this mission takes place in the days/weeks following, so...sorry lol. And yeah, every time Kakashi's been shown at the Memorial Stone, each time he was late for "insert reason", was for Obito. He picked up a lot of Obito's habits afterwards, and he even directly quoted Obito's line about ninja who abandon their comrades being worse than scum to Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke all the way back in the first 5 episodes of the show. That was actually the entire point of his test, which shows how strongly this affected him.

2021-11-15 15:20:15 +0000 UTCYeah, it was suggested at the start but due to scheduling and other complications it was easier on them to not do them "out of order" and it's not detrimental to the story, just a bit awkward to jump from the present plot to this.

2021-11-15 14:47:27 +0000 UTCSo chronologically speaking, kakashi gaiden (chronicles) was actually released in the manga before shippuden began, the anime just decided to start shippuden first which resulted in them having to pick somewhere to insert these episodes which is why it feels so out of place. This is why most reactors are told to watch these two episodes before ep 1 of shippuden, in order to follow the original manga release order. I'm new here but I'm surprised no one gave y'all a heads up lol. At the end of the day it doesn't make that much of a difference, it just creates a random but intriguing detour from the main story. While we're on the subject there's also like a 15 ep kakashi backstory that occurs much later in the story but its technically filler so people are very split over whether its worth watching or not because it occurs during the middle of an intense arc. You"ll find that the random insertion of long filler gets worse as you continue shippuden so keep your filler list handy!
