⭐Dragon Ball Z Episodes 94-95: Watch Along & Analysis

Goku's rage driving him to realize the legend is easily a top five contender for most iconic moments in the history of anime. Super Saiyan changed EVERYTHING, influenced EVERYTHING. So many things reference it, Sonic the Hedgehog flatly rips it off... In fact I'll be STUNNED if you've never seen art of Goku in his transformed state. Even back in the original Funimation Toonami airing, we'd all seen splash images and spoiler clips of blonde Goku, not knowing what it was about. This arc is woven into the culture of anime and even into the West, such was the ripple effect of Super Saiyan. It's so ingrained it's difficult to trace the lineage, but for certain you've seen modern anime taking their cue from this. The buildup, the desperation, the vindication. Toriyama famously said that literally the entire Frieza fight was building up to the glare Goku gives him at the end of this episode, inspired directly by the kind of cold stare of the legendary Bruce Lee. Then Toriyama remembered. "Oh right... they have to fight now."

He's Here! The Legend has been realized. We have all been biting our tongues as you girls kept on talking about how Goku was a super saiyan already or Vegeta was already and we could not say a word until you saw the transformation yourself. But not only does Freeza have to deal with a super saiyan now, he has to deal with a pissed off one. Fun side note, the reason Toriyama decided to have the transformation change the hair to a glowing gold was so that he and the other illustrators would not have to keep inking in Goku's black hair. If you watch the movie Lord Slug, You can see what early animators thought the transformation might have looked like as it was made before this was released in the manga. Now Goku has the power up he needs to go one-on-one with the evil emperor of the universe. But remember, Freeza only said he powered up to 50% of his maximum. that means he can still double his current power. Do you think Goku can overpower him?
