The reason why Turles looks like Goku doesn't have much to do with the plot itself. The animators and writers for this movie wanted the main villain to be a hypothetical version of what Goku would have been like if he had never hit his head as a child because thats only reason why Goku isn't ruthless and cold blooded like other saiyens normally are.

what about Bardock? I see that it isn't on Funimation but I know they probrably most definatley would want to see that

my vote is for more movies, as you well put you don't want to get too far ahead to remember events around the time the movie is placed

I like how piccolo catches gohan and goku catches his power pole, probably nothing but eh if you think about it, it could say something about their priorities

So this movie takes place in the timeline in this alternate universe after Goku has received training from King Kai and either before or after his fight with Vegeta. He has all the training and techniques he learnt from King Kai and is still wearing the Kai symbol on the back of his Gi.

This movie was weird lol but Dragon Ball is weird overall. It's funny to think that Goku and Piccolo have fought more times in the Z movies than in the actual anime. But yeah these movies are non cannon. Also forgot that the funimation dub does have mispronunciations with some words. Like Kaioken for one, and kamehameha is pronounced as is like saying the attack. Other dubs correct the pronunciations. It was funny seeing the movie tho, Krillin being a punching bag, Piccolo flat out disappearing from time to time. There are a lot of these movies to go as well.
