I do remember people using that one scene between Alicia (The cat girl one), Sakuya (The sylph leader), and Kirito as proof of all the girls liking him. However if you remember, and I know we’ll get to this later anyway, the reason that they were trying to seduce him was so he would join their respective teams. In other words, it wasn’t that they liked him but instead that they wanted him to like one of them. Reki even allured later on that Alicia and Sakuya might have something going on with each other. Which most people took as they were either dating or they liked each other. (And with Reki being on record saying that he wanted to write a yuri someday, I can’t say that’s off the table) And yeah, Reki really knows how to make the characters slimy. I think that’s part in fact because he’s said that he always wants to make his villains extra evil to prevent them from becoming allies with the main character (Which I think there are other ways of doing that, but I think he learned as time went on). Although, I think he failed immediately with that one since Kayaba basically ended up being one of the people who helped at the end of Alicization. And yeah, I like how in the anime the scene with Sigurd happens really quickly but in this one it goes into a whole lot of things right in the middle of the scene. This basically happens a lot as the series continues. (I’ going to stop there before I go back into my usual hating on the Alicization adaptation) And saying that Reki can write good female characters can be considered a hot take by a lot of haters. That’s basically one of their biggest points they have to hate on a series. Even though, like you mentioned, there are plenty of series that have worse written characters, yet those slide.
