🎬Dragon Ball Z: The History of Trunks: Watch Along & Analysis

Comments

I think they do address about how Trunks got the Sword but its on Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot: The History of Trunks DLC. But The game itself does contains lots and lots of Spoilers throughout both DBZ and Super. In other words: Don't play the game until you finish Z and Super

Huh... I always knew the original aired version of this with a bit more of a rock-music motif, and I've gotta say... I think that was the more dramatic version. For one thing, there were no commercial-break eye-catch things to break the mood (seriously! Those chimed in after such heart-wrenching scenes!) and for another, specifically Trunks' transformation was scored with this slow building theme that was FAR more suited to the tragedy and intensity of Gohan's discovery and Trunks breaking through his wall to transform. The theme was even adapted for the Gameboy Advance classic "Legacy of Goku 2," one of the few series of games that used the Funimation localized music instead of original music or the Japanese score. To answer some of your questions, yes, DBZ Abridged did their own History of Trunks, and it was great. Actually, that one in particular has a "in memoriam" preceding it that has nothing to do with DBZ, but I guarantee will be a sad blast from the past. Does Trunks' sword have a backstory? Er... kind of? The last of the original movies before GT and Super's content has an odd tie-in that isn't at all canon... and doesn't actually make sense... yet seems to try to tell us where it came from? You'll understand what I mean once you watch it. All the same, History of Trunks is absolutely canon, and if I recall it was even the prologue to the Android Saga in the manga, meaning before we even met Trunks in the canon timeline we were told his story. Certainly different from how the series saved it for this special and dropped Trunks on us as the Mysterious Youth who arrived from nowhere to put down Frieza. It's one of the darkest, most beloved and recognizeable pieces of Dragonball content, and made Trunks one of the more interesting characters to appear in it. I'm personally pretty cool on Trunks, I was never overly enamored with his personality, but you have to respect the lengths they went to make him and everything he touches in the Android saga relevant and effective, even if I think he ultimately exists to needle out Vegeta's character development.
