When this first aired weekly I watched it as it came out. The day after the last episode aired I binged all 12 episodes again.

When translating from the Light Novel to the anime naturally some of the details that aren't directly relevant to the story were cut out but with the Diaries Spin off being adapted those little things get added back in and give soooo much more depth to a lot of the side characters that didn't get enough screen-time in the anime. Slime Diaries starts a month after the war against the Orc Lord, meaning between episode 15 and 16 of season 1, as you can see Milim, who was a log term guest for a chunk of episodes in season 1, isn’t/wasn’t there yet (she went to tempest at the end of episode 16). While it’s episodic there is a chronological red threat to all of it and we progress very slowly along the events of the first season from that point on. Also in terms of Art style, Rimuru himself is actually more accurately depicted in Slime Diaries at this point in time. The Light Novels make a point of Rimuru initially really being small like a child, 120cm looking like maybe 9-10 years old, and then only slowly growing into a older form the more powerful he becomes. By the end of season 1, even after all the power he gained, people, especially humans, still tend to misidentify him as a young girl of like maybe 12 years.
