Keyleth is canonically the most powerful member of Vox Machina. (High level circle of the moon druids are broken). As you observed she just suffers from a lot of self doubt and self esteem issues. Also they switched over from pathfinder so marisha had to learn a new, complicated system and occasionally misread her spells. (I hear she got some hate for that, I don’t agree with it) Also you think this is dark my friend you have just entered the wonderfully messed up place that is Matthew Mercer’s mind.

Pike leaving here also happened in the campaign because in real life Ashley Johnson, Pike's voice actress, was a part of a show at the time that took time away from Critical Role. They found a good moment for Pike to leave. Their campaign started as a home game for 2 years and then they started streaming mid campaign. This arc is the second arc in their campaign. We know we have at least another season green lit but the success of the show, I'm sure we'll get the whole campaign, which is 115 episodes long. You are right about Keyleth, she is insecure about her abilities and she is one of the younger members of the group. Percy is also pretty young too his life is way different to Keyleth's but it was perfect for their pair up. Grog and Pike are one of the two that were together before the whole Vox Machina team up. This show gets dark, I'll say
